I experimented lowering the saturation of the collective down to 90 and it really helps with hover and take off.. ony that the collective seems to start now allready at 5% so might be good idea to make a curve there

Made a few changes on my Thrustmaster T.16000M HOTAS and finding it a lot calmer now and easier to handle, especially hovering.

I'm flying using these settings, adjusting only the "Y Saturation" on Pitch, Roll and Rudder.

Pitch (Y axis) - 48

Roll (X axis) - 42

Rudder (RZ axis) - 85

I'm flying using these settings, adjusting only the "Y Saturation" on Pitch, Roll and Rudder with a small Dead Zone on Rudder.

Pitch (Y axis) - 48

Roll (X axis) - 42

Rudder (RZ axis) - 85 and Dead Zone of 8

I use the paddles for rudder on the throttle rather than on the stick but found it's handy to have a small dead zone for people using a stick and twisting as it avoids accidently rudder input.

How does the deadzone work with the constant rudder input needed?

I haven't experienced a need for constant rudder input.

PC specs:

Intel Core i7-13700K [Raptor Lake 3.4GHz Sixteen-Core LGA 1700] (stock clock)/64.0 GB RAM/RTX 3080 GPU (stock clock)/Windows 10 Home/Multiple M.2 SSD Drives/T.Flight HOTAS X/HP Reverb G2

Yeah shouldn't be there, that's from something else I wrote down. I've only set the Y Saturation and don't use dead zones on the OH-6A

Rudder is the wrong word. I meant continous pedal input. Pedals should not be often at "zero"

That's how I took it. I haven't experienced a need for constant rudder/pedal input. I'll check my settings and share them when I get off work.

You don't need left pedal e.g. in a hover?

Oh, I see. Sorry.

Yes, to hover you most likely need moderate and constant left pedal. When trimmed well you do not need significant rudder authority while in forward flight.

In general, I suck at hovering in the OH-6a. I still need lots of practice. Hovering is very demanding of your skills with this helicopter.

In trim the pedal position depends on loadout and speed.

HI Tobi,

I am not an aeronautical engineer or licensed heli pilot, but I think I might be able to describe my complaint for the flight model.

It seems like there is too much dampening in the controls, in the cyclic at least. Almost like there are springs in the push/pull rods going to the rotor head, and it seems to me the springs are too loose.

I don't know if that is what you are referring to when you say the AH6-j mod is "linear"  - i.e. the stick input is more direct.

So, in my mind, if that dampening was some kind of variable, I would be interested in trying the flight model with "tighter" springs. Making the cyclic a bit more responsive and less elastic.

Just my thoughts.

Thanks

There are no springs or dampening input goes directly without any changes to the blades

Small media dump

Absolutely digging the new camo livery with the troops in the back.  Is this coming out soon in a future update?  Also, any updates on Vietnamese AI assets or any work being done there?

The cargos will be included in the next update, coming soon
Yes, we would like to expand the VAP but we're busy with other stuff at the moment so it will probably be a couple of months before that happens

Is the "copter pack" needed for your server in the latest update package for oh-6a?

We use the server only for internal testing at the moment

😁 Old Macdonald flying one there too. Looking forward to it, some cracking liveries.

Whenever you get around to the Vietnam pack bits, could you have a look at the sea platform? The barge, I don’t know what causes it but it seems to save any wrecks of the odd ‘mishaps’ I might have. Sometimes it looks like a Thomas Magnum underwater graveyard down there. There’s also some odd things about the slots on the actual platform as well.

Saying that, I’m not sure if the platform was part of your pack here or part of the other Vietnam thing? I’ll check again but anyway. Looking good, brilliant little project this turned out to be. Well done lads. 🙂

edit: I just remembered. I tried to plot the pbr by the barge and have it do laps around it. It would only go so close around certain parts of it so maybe the bounding box? (Whatever it’s called) is causing trouble? - apologies if I’m confusing things.

NOt sure what might be the problem with the pbr. I had him go around the barge without issues 🤷‍♂️

Would love to see that one in DCS

Back in the OH-6 with the boys (Zipper took the Kiowa).  This is still my favorite helo to fly.  Looking forward to some good times when Violent Nomad gets his Cobra released.  Going to be off the hook.  Toyed around with some camera effects in this one.
