skywalker22 Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 How does ripple function with laser guided bombs GBU-10 and GBU-12 work actually, which are on F-16? Can't talk about GBU-24 or other aircrafts. For me, ripple is just not working. Most of time all bombs just hit one single target. Is this how is it suppose to be? Why is ripple function there anyway? f-16_gbu-12_ripple_ccrp_300ft.trk
Solution Gierasimov Posted December 30, 2023 Solution Posted December 30, 2023 You would need multiple laser designations for multiple bombs to hit different targets. I had it once with the script that mimics JTAC. So each bomb was set with different code and scripted JTAC was lasing two targets with two laser beams, so when I dropped two at the same time, they went for two distinct target. In your situation I assume you were self lasing or DCS JTAC lasing on 1688 a single target / unit, hence no matter how many bombs you drop, they all to the same target based on the configured laser code. GBU-10 / 12 glide towards the reflected laser energy constantly, so need some sort of lasing all the way to the shack. 1 1 Intel Ultra 9 285K :: ROG STRIX Z890-A GAMING WIFI :: Kingston Fury 64GB :: MSI RTX 4080 Gaming X Trio :: VKB Gunfighter MK.III MCG Ultimate :: VPC MongoosT-50 CM3 :: non-VR :: single player :: open beta

I thought of something like that I would require multiple laser designations. Which is current version of DCS is not (yet) possible, except with a use of some script as you mentioned, which I guess does not pass Integrity Check in multiplayer. But its a cool workaround for a single player. Thx
Vakarian Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 Well, I would guess that IRL not everything works perfectly as in DCS so they actually might ripple two LGBs on a single target just to ensure that either hits it. I think I've heard it mentioned here on forums "somewhere"

SOP mentioned in the book Vipers in the Storm says that LGBs were rippled because dropping in pairs would cause them to collide with each other while homing in on the laser spot. I don't recall if the author mentioned a specific interval distance. 1
