sobek Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 WTH? There is no other than the 3d pit in DCS. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!

maxxxem Posted March 31, 2009 Author Posted March 31, 2009 o i see what i did was . i was looking down at cyclic and zoomed out as i was looking at it.it put me above the dash a little more as you look forward which really brings out the 3D in the cockpit and everything outside the cockpit .... LOOKS SO BAD ASS:thumbup:
maxxxem Posted March 31, 2009 Author Posted March 31, 2009 no im an actual commercial helicopter pilot i never fly in arcade mode:thumbup: and my brothers a kmax pilot . i showed him the game the other day and he said the k50 and the kmax are made by the same company . both are duel main blade helo's

MTFDarkEagle Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 You should get it, its worth the money =D Especially in BS, it gets some getting used to it, but once you are, it works absolutely perfect and lets you do kick ass even more ;):pilotfly::thumbup: Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread

Frakin Toasters Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Yeah save yourself some cash and use Freetrack, much better.
AlphaOneSix Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 no im an actual commercial helicopter pilot i never fly in arcade mode:thumbup: and my brothers a kmax pilot . i showed him the game the other day and he said the k50 and the kmax are made by the same company . both are duel main blade helo's It's already been mentioned that the Ka-50 and the K-Max are not made by the same company, I'll also point out that the Kamov birds are coaxial, meaning both rotors are mounted on the same mast. The rotors on Kaman aircraft are on separate masts that are angled away from each other. Similar systems in the sense that it flies like a coax, but very different from a design standpoint.
Frakin Toasters Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Man those K-Max helicopters are crazy! What an interesting design. They look perfect for taking people's heads off though with the blades at that angle
sobek Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Similar systems in the sense that it flies like a coax, but very different from a design standpoint. I could imagine that the kaiman flies not like a coax, given that it doesn't have 1 rotor always in a climbing state. If i'm not mistaken, it's thrust does not become asymetric at high speeds and there is no danger of in flight blade collision due to excessive blade flapping. All in all i find this concept even more interesting than Kamovs design. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
Kwill Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Yeah save yourself some cash and use Freetrack' date=' much better.[/quote'] it's not much better, it's only better if you are a cheapass and don't want to spend $120 but the performance and support of the TrackIR 4 is much much better.
oritpro Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 WTH? There is no other than the 3d pit in DCS. What are you guys talking about? Is there a key to toggle 2d/3d or what? All I've seen is the 3D cockpit when you start BS. In the training videos, they seem to be able to slide the view directly in front of some of the panels like the Abris or Shkval, are there keys to do this? Frakin Toasters Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Kwill, it's a heck of a lot cheaper, and you can configure it to be as good as TrackIR. It is also more satisfying building something yourself. I think it's pretty despicable that NaturalPoint are trying to circumvent other pieces of freeware tracking software by adding scramblers.

Therefore how could you say which one performs better? You may think it's much more satisfying pieceing some half-ass contraption together but I don't. 1
sobek Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 It's obvious you don't have TrackIR as you express such disdain for NaturalPoint. Even some TrackIR users find NaturalPoints policy regarding the interface to be monopolism. Therefore how could you say which one performs better? How can you? Do you have both? You may think it's much more satisfying pieceing some half-ass contraption together but I don't. Good for you. If you are willing to spend what in my opinion is a shitload of money for something that is not that competitive, you can do so. The part of us who have to rely on a rather finite amount of money to spend on a hobby are able to find a true alternative in FreeTrack. Sry for OT btw :music_whistling: 2 Good, fast, cheap. WynnTTr Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 I tried both. Freetrack first then TrackIR. Freetrack is not too shabby, but it's not as sharp or precise. Tracking is very dependent on the quality of the webcam you're using. TrackIR is already wide-angled and just works straight out of the box. Depending on what cam you use, webcams normally operate at 20-30fps. You can use a wiimote to get higher fps (but that means sacrificing a wiimote), whereas TrackIR is already at 120fps(? - can't remember exactly, but it was 100+fps). For me, this was noticeable in how smooth Trackir can track your head movements, particularly fast movements. Freetrack would lose it alot more than TrackIR. Also if you've got an older cpu, a webcam uses alot more cycles, while TrackIR hardly uses any. Not so important for other games, but for flight sims such as BS - the cpu is important. Also when making it, you have to get high FOV LEDs. You can't really just use any LED - trust me, I made mine then realised that it wouldn't track properly. Had to buy some better quality parts. I also had numerous crashes with FreeTrack, not one with TrackIR. Lastly, FreeTrack is not natively supported. Take BS for instance, when it was first released, TrackIR supported full 6DOF from day 1. Freetrack didn't until they released a new version. All in all, if you have the time and patience and don't want to spend the money, try Freetrack. When you've got it working, it does the job adequately. If you can't be bothered and can afford it, go for TrackIR all the way. It's simpler, alot smoother, virtually no hassles, and of course, commercial quality components. Freetrack's quality is only as good as you make it.
