Longy Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 I just got DCS: Black Shark, and it's a splendid game. There is one problem though that is annoying me. I have really long loading times when starting up missions and such after the main menu. I have to wait up to 10 minutes before it starts. I read some threads about the loading times, but I don't think they have to wait 10 minutes to start it. Here are my specifications: GPU: nVidia 9800GX2 CPU: Intel Q9450 2.66GHz RAM: 4gb (2x2gb) OS: Vista 64bit Help would be apreciated. Also, tell me if you need more info.
nemises Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 10 minutes is pretty extreme! .. with a rig like that (assuming a reasonably modern sata HDD) , you should be loading in less than a full minute! your rig is similar to mine, tho I'm x86 , a dualcore cpu and a 260gt vid card , but specs are pretty close. Make sure you have sufficient space on your system drive for paging, or, since youve got x64 and 4 GB , turn paging off altogether. Might as well defrag the drive BS is on..go on, you know it needs it anyway (assuming NTFS or FAT). I'm not sure if you can run the exe in any sort of diagnostic mode (like -noSound or something) to try and eliminate peripherals from the equation unfortunately...might be worth checking all of our peripjheral drivers tho (sound card, vid card etc..) .. nothing I assume you haven't allready tried tho :( 1
Longy Posted April 18, 2009 Author Posted April 18, 2009 Alright, I will try to defrag. I have 500gb HDD with 40gb left. Thanks for the help.
Longy Posted April 18, 2009 Author Posted April 18, 2009 Alright. I have another problem. When I join a server in multiplayer it goes white for like 5 minutes. Then I can choose a helicopter. When I press fly it goes white again for around 5 minutes. Then it goes back to server list with the message "Server has shut down". It's weird, because the server doesn't shut down. This problem is most likely related to the other problem I have, so maybe it fixes itself when I defragment. Also, does anyone know of a good defragment program?
159th_Viper Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 ....Also, does anyone know of a good defragment program? Longy Posted April 19, 2009 Author Posted April 19, 2009 I did the defrag tonight. Sadly, it still takes up to 10 minutes to load. :(
Boberro Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Try OODegrag 10. It is really veeeery fast and does its job well! Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
Distiler Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Similar to: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=40171 As I asked there, have you installed all drivers relatives to the motherboard? (most important, chipset and SATA drivers) AMD Ryzen 1400 // 16 GB DDR4 2933Mhz // Nvidia 1060 6GB // W10 64bit // Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2
Longy Posted April 19, 2009 Author Posted April 19, 2009 I checked and all my drivers are updated. I also tried disabling my antivirus. It didn't help.
159th_Viper Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Not maybe a hardware issue with your HDD? I'm running a Raptor and it loads in seconds. Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? neoshi Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I too face this problem. 5 minute loading times. But I run a 3.2ghz P4 Northwood, 2GB PC3200 Dual Channel, Sapphire X1950PRO AGP 512MB w/Catalyst 8.12, 640GB Western Digital HDD on SATA1.5. No matter if settings are set to LOW or HIGH (1680x1050 or lower), it's always around 5 minutes. :\ Frame rate is also around 20 or less too. This is all on a fresh install of WinXP SP3. No AV installed.
Longy Posted April 20, 2009 Author Posted April 20, 2009 I have 30-50fps, so that is not a problem for me.
CeC Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I've got the same problem on Vista x64. What kind of chipset do you have (sata controler) ? Mine is an Intel ICH8M... maybe the same as yours ?
Longy Posted April 20, 2009 Author Posted April 20, 2009 I have a X38 chipset. It's a part of the Asus P5E motherboard.
Longy Posted April 20, 2009 Author Posted April 20, 2009 If you mean that thing called southbridge, I have a ICH9R.
CeC Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I wonder if it's a hardware issue, os (x64) issue or a problem due to starforce activation ? I think a tried almost everything to decrease the loading time... For me too, once the game is loaded, everything is fine (30 to 40 fps). It's just very annoying to have almost 10 minutes to wait between each missions. Isn't there much more experience about this issue ?
Distiler Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Try a benchmark software and compare it to similar systems. For example Sisoft Sandra have some hard disk test and lets you compare also. AMD Ryzen 1400 // 16 GB DDR4 2933Mhz // Nvidia 1060 6GB // W10 64bit // Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2
CeC Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I've installed and tried Sisoft Sandra. The HDD performance are quite honests and normal i think for a laptop : 44.152 Mo/s. I didn't notice any slow down for any other application. The problem is only seen in DCS.
Distiler Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Don't infere if the perfomance is honest or not, just use the compare tools in Sisoft Sandra and see if it's normal perfomance for fact. Try to delete the contents of /temp folder in DCS and see if it loads faster. If that didn't help, try to reinstall DCS (no need to use activations or deactivations, just reinstall the game). And if you can use another partition of the hard disk to do it. AMD Ryzen 1400 // 16 GB DDR4 2933Mhz // Nvidia 1060 6GB // W10 64bit // Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2
CeC Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 First, thanks for help. I think i run out of solution to try. Yes, the performances of the HDD in Sisoft Sandra are in the average performances of some identical hdd. As you advised i've uninstalled the game, re-installed on another defragmented partition. Unfortunatly, i meet the exact same problem. :-(
Longy Posted April 22, 2009 Author Posted April 22, 2009 I also reinstalled, but I still have the problems. :(
Vitesse2l Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Which version of BS are you guys running? (Russian d/l, Russian dvd, English d/l etc) I have a 4-5 minute load time on my old p4 3.0, 2gb ram, 256mb, 7600gs xp sp3 machine. Using russian d/l version. I read that the Eagle Dynamics English d/l was coded with a faster load time. Also, I guess you have tried turning off some of the background windows junk? Sounds there is a conflict somewhere... I think a five minute wait is a long time...10 would send me crazier. Cheers!
CeC Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 With 10 minutes loading time. I assure you that you are veeeeeery carefull with the bird : a crash and you go for a 10 minutes waiting. :-( For me, i've got the english boxed version.
Longy Posted April 22, 2009 Author Posted April 22, 2009 I also have the english DVD version. I once tried turning off every program that wasn't essential for my PC. Even my antivirus. It still had the exact same loading time.
