Saintpro Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Hello everyone. I've been playing for a couple days now, and I'm having some problems with hovering. I've been trying to do a low ground hover, but it seems to be impossible. My main problem is lowering the collective, and reducing my speed, I'm also only using a keyboard, and mouse so this could be the problem. When try to go for a low hover I lower the collective, but when I do this the helo drops out the sky, and that leads to me having to raise it then I just go way up, and when I lower the collective I just tap the button, I'm not sure if theres a way to lower the collective very slowly, but if I could that would help. Now when I do manage to get the altitude right I try to lower my speed. When I pull back on the stick my helo just starts flying backwards, and then when I try push forward the helo starts going forward so it just ends up with me trying to correct it, and most of the time I can't. Now if I do stop it from moving forward, and backwards it'll move from side to side -_- I'm also trimming, and using autohover, and all of the above still happens. Any help would be appreciated.
muamshai Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 If you are using auto-hover feature then the speed indicator and the vertical piper should be visible before you engage it. This works for me very well, and I usually hover 10m above ground to fire Vikhrs. This space is available for your advertisement
sobek Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Get a decent joystick, flying with keyboard seems next to impossible, maybe with the mouse it will be a bit easier but still very hard compared to a joystick. The way you describe it, you are chasing after the helo, try smaller and slower control movements and anticipate the helos behaviour to your control input. You have to act before something happens, if you only correct after the helo has build up speed, you will never be able to establish a decent hover. So lets say you are drifting to the right and apply some left cyclic to counter, the moment the helo stops you have to apply slight right cyclic to not start drifting to the left asf. Think ahead and keep practicing, it becomes easier in time. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
192nd_Erdem Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 I have yet to see a "Keyboard key sensitivity" option in BS, nor have heard about it. Keyboard collective probably increase with %5-10 increments, so you're trying to get that eg %73 sweetpot but always fall short I'm afraid. Getting a joystick is the only way I see for a solution :o
joey45 Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 get a good cheap joystick... it doesn't have to be a HOTAS. and head tracking. If you have a webcam use freetrack [google it, can't be a***d to do it my self] The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. JG14_Smil Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 note that you throw a dust cloud until you get to 21m alt. Hovering too low can be bad if you are flying against human adversaries by making you more visible. for original poster; use the ctrl enter joystick indicator - there is a spot you set your controls for hover, you will learn it as you fly more, then add some collective to stop the drop. Toggling the hover control will also pull the helo into a hover when trimmed correctly. Repeat the hover toggle until under 10km/p speed and you are then in a solid hover. If you are using auto-hover feature then the speed indicator and the vertical piper should be visible before you engage it. This works for me very well, and I usually hover 10m above ground to fire Vikhrs.

So it's a concern in single player too! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Cap_Z Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 I really can't imagine smoothly flying and fighting with precise control in the BS without a decent HOTAS setup.
Spider76 Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 hi i found this "joyticks profile setup" good for my flying. and make collective and throttle profile the same. collective = throttle = good hover control hope this helps you :thumbup: ::ASRock 4Core1333::Intel Quad Q6600 2.4 GHZ::OCZ DDR2 Reaper HPC Edition 4 GB::Club3D 9800GT 1GB Green Edition::Acer LCD 19":: Nexus 400W::Vista Ultimate SP2::Saitek X36F & X35T Joystick::Youtube::Spider´s Channel::Suomi-Finland :-) ::
Safari Ken Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 I really can't imagine smoothly flying and fighting with precise control in the BS without a decent HOTAS setup. I agree. Any joystick will be better than a keyboard and mouse, but having a full-size throttle gives the ability to make very tiny adjustments to the collective, which are next to impossible otherwise, and very important for precision (of course).
slowhand Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 after you get your hover (auto/Manual) try the d key ..it is decent mode it will lower your hover state slow and ez to about 4 meters off the ground...
