bop1701 Posted June 9, 2024 Posted June 9, 2024 Don't get me wrong HB, the F-4 is phantastic. My favorite jet, grew up making models and reading all about her. Great flying her, but really tired of the whiskey delta WSO we're saddled with (and yes I understand it must be very difficult to write his code). Can he either go back to school or get courts martialed? Some of the colloqualisms need to go. The one when he IFF's a bogey then says, 'Nope....'. Nope what?? No friendly IFF return therefore a bandit, or a good return and not a bandit? I think it means it's a friendly target, but that poor phraseology would get a big unsat. Needs to stick much more to standard brevity and callouts. Or make it an option where the user can select folksy or professional modes. He needs to be able to work with the bogey dope supplied by AWACS/EWR just like a real WSO, who would hear the radio call, and focus his search on the given BRA. It's frustrating to have him spend 20+ valuable seconds calling out every friendly contact in the area but never finds the bandit AWACS told us of. I'd really like a more professional WSO that spent more time in training. Constantly loosing lock just before/at/after AIM7 launch,.... long pressing the context button after he calls out a bandit, he says 'ok', then no lock/nothing happens and 'resuming standard search'..., ....making late position calls ( '..he's at 8 o'clock') when I'm looking right at the bandit and it's incorrect... I wouldn't mind him telling me my landings sucked if he did his job in the air instead of getting me killed. Very frustrating on an otherwise outstanding module. Another side issue, I often have lag in multiplayer right at rotation, and closing to the merge. On rotation, the lag often causes a crash after inducing a low altitude PIO, and lagging at the merge gets you killed also. My ping is usually >100. Thanks for listening derp, ping is LESS that 100... 7 1
Solution wazzerbosh Posted June 10, 2024 Solution Posted June 10, 2024 I believe the lag you're experiencing on rotation is due to jester turning on the radar as soon as wheels are up. On heavy MP servers I have to take off with the jester wheel open and the radar standby option highlighted so I can quickly tell him to disable it as soon as I feel the game freezes happening. It's saved my life a few times but takeoffs still remain pretty risky! The other alternative is to bind the radar standby jester action to your hotas. If you tell him to go standby on the ground, he'll still turn it on at rotation since it was already in standby. Try taking a look at the new radar performance options in the specials menu. They might help with the rotation lag.

I am not really sure how to tell the Jester to IFF the contact, but I tried with the control "RADAR > IFF" (which can be found at the botoom of the RADAR group). The funny thing is after I give him that command, what he does, he only sighs, and thats it. 1
Zabuzard Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 Did you do the fix with renaming the Contact folder (sdef, not sound)? Otherwise all voice files in that folder are borked until a future patch where it is fixed universally.Jester IFFs automatically every couple of seconds and whenever he sees a new guy on the screen. With the command you can force him to IFF manually if required.

Is that command I was writing about before the correct one to notify the jester about IFF the contact?

Zabuzard Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 Appeciate the inputs. Please understand that the mentioned items are all planned to be added and improved during early access 4 1
Bosun Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 (edited) Fun times: You can build keybind commands in Shipbit's Wingman AI, have the TTS turned off, and talk to Jester like a normal dude. Rather than issuing specific, set phrases for commands like 'Jester, lock forward target', you can just idly be like, "Jester, 12 oclock, paint him" or "Jester, he's off the nose, give me a lock" etc and all those phrases would be recognized, parsed, commands matched, and trigger a keybind that would then trigger a Jester in-game response. This isn't seamless yet - there is a second or two of delay - but it'll get faster as development goes on likely. This tool allows you to 'speak' to Jester, really, like a normal human using dynamic phrasing for situations. Then - you can go into the Jester 2.0 files and delete the phrases you don't like from the voice files Boom - you've got Jester 3.0. And when Heatblur/ED can get an API share going with Shipbit/Wingman AI.... hooo boy. You'll have Jester 4.0. And he'll just talk back to you like a normal human. In whatever voice you wish. r4y30n Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 And he'll just talk back to you like a normal human. In whatever voice you wish. AI voice replacement is getting really popular in mods for games in general and I’d just like to point out that feeding AI a real actor’s voice to replace dialogue in a game is theft of their likeness. Soon it may be outright illegal to create these voice profiles but, regardless, it’s just scuzzy to steal someone’s work for your own amusement. Real people work hard to provide voice work and that work deserves compensation. You wouldn’t be happy about someone replacing your day job with AI, would you?https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/after-scarlett-johansson-dustup-ai-lobbying-group-urges-congress-to-outlaw-deepfakes/ar-BB1nXL41

Is all of that possible with the free version, or do you need to pay the monthly subscription for the pro version to get all that? Is the app resource-friendly when running with DCS? In VR, I need every little thing I can get. Edited June 11, 2024 by Jayhawk1971

But maybe not - I have the pro so I'm not worried. As for resource heavy - no. I use it both in DCS and Star Citizen and can play both fine with it running. 1
JetCat Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 Wow... "Jester 3.0" this name sounds like a semi-dangerous AI slowly becoming self-aware making awesome jokes while doing so. Is any of this stuff planned for the Tomcat too? Would be great to get a few pilot functions for Jester like having Jester automatically land on a selectable airfield or aircraft carrier.

Longiron Posted June 14, 2024 Posted June 14, 2024 I hate to be the one to say it but, I'd pay a subscription for an AI WSO in the back seat. Heatblur could add a % on top of the normal price for AI access, or form some kind of partner deal. Of course our beloved cross-eyed all thumbs jester would still be available.
