Morning Heatblur team,

Can you provide any insight on when we might expect to see Jester 2.0 with the Tomcat?  Also is there going to be a ground crew similar to the F-4E?  Really digging what you have done there.  It would be nice to have the ground crew option in Jester 2.0 for the Tomcat to include ground power and air.  Hoping this is something that is added.

Also, will the short and long holds be the same in the Tomcat for acquiring air ti air targets like in the F-4E? I am also digging that.  All the hard work is much appreciated! I grew up around both these aircraft at NAS Dallas as a kid.  I never would have dreamed the day would come where I was flying both of them in VR to the fidelity your team has accomplished.  It truly is a dream come true.  You will complete my Naval Aviation flight sim dream when the Intruder comes out.

We already have comms and ground crew operation for air, ground power and wheelchocks. What new is there in Jester 2.0?

If you mean the visible crew and equipment then yeah - my wish too

I did a quick comparison side by side.  I guess what I meant to say was the Jester AI in the Tomcat does not allow you to select connecting the air source, ground power, or removing the chocks.  It would be easier in VR if this was implemented like it is in the F-4.  Heatblur had stated the Tomcat was getting the same upgrade the Phantom was.  I was curious if we would see this implementation anytime soon.  Not a deal breaker or anything, but we are also going to be able to change the voices with Jester AI as well, so it would be cool to have this function in the Tomcat to when it came to requesting the above in game.

Also, I am with you on the visible crew and equipment for the Tomcat!  I would be surprised if this was not already being discussed internally.  I do not recall seeing anything about it though.

Jester context?
I'm sure they're gonna expand on the commands as they promised. And make him smarter too.

There's already a Jester voice replacement module in the User Downloads section, called "Jest-Her" I think. Female voice. Not bad.

Can't speak to 2.0, but I seem to recall that changing the Jester voice was "simply" a matter of creating your own several hundred custom sounds, naming them correctly, and dropping them in to replace the ones that are there, easy peasy! lol...

I'm not updating this anymore. It's safe to assume I have all the stuff, and the stuff for the stuff too. 🙂

Thx, I get it now. It's not Jester you ask for these actions becasue that wouldn't make sense. It's just there in the same menu to do simulated hand signals (as a pilot) to the Crew Chief

That's actually pretty cool. I didn't know about that. I wonder how possible it would be to have something like that done with AI to create an Iranian Jester voice for when you fly IRIAF missions. I know it's an impossibly massive task for Heatblur, but it would be kind of cool to have "regional" accents for the Jester voice. I would never expect them to do that, but it would be a real immersion boost.

I need a stern German RIO when I'm flying the F-4 for Germany.

It might be better for the community to provide that if people that have time and are dedicated. I know there are Iranian usera in this forum.
Cheers!

Yeah, the only other way I could see it working would be if there was some way to implement some AI voice changing technology that would allow them to just set a region and the AI would automatically change the voice samples to sound like someone from that region. But that's...probably quite a lot.

Using AI to replace voice work in a game has been done before (ironically, it’s becoming commonplace in Cyberpunk 2077) but personally I think it’s a terrible practice and needs to end.

First off, you’re taking work away from voice actors.

Second, most of the time these mods are attempting to make characters sound like specific Hollywood actors which is use of likeness without permission. Scarlett Johansson has already gotten lawyers involved after OpenAI did just that.

Third, training AI to do this work takes what I would consider an unethical amount of power, like crypto mining power in some cases.

Lastly, there are far better uses for AI than replacing creative jobs. Like solving hard problems that can’t be solved by humans in a conventional manner.

Oh, I'm all for any solution. I don't imagine any solution is what Heatblur wants to do, because they've already got enough on their plates with everything else, but if any Iranian voice actor wants to record all of the Jester lines, I'll happily contribute some money towards paying for that to get a custom voice option!

Can we get Jester to call out aircraft with a high, low and same level in addition to the clock code?

Already implemented for high and low calls. Same level not, and that's good imho.

While I like the F4 jester context action button and smaller wheel, I find him to be near worthless compared to the F14 jester. "We have a bandit! 12 O'clock 7 miles!" <which he says after we have merged with said bandit>. He does not seem to call out speed in turn fights nor give positions of bandits as much. Yea, I know the F4 Rio is sitting in a bath tub but still. F4 jester just does not feel like a RIO. I love that the F14 Jester is an active part of the team. I know some people find F14 Jester annoying: I can only hope that if they do go with Jester 2.0 for the F14 they will either let him persist in all his glory or at least give us an option to keep him as animated and helpful as I find him to be. Perhaps like the option to spawn with or without the pilot body, leave the option to keep Jester 1.0's spirit alive or click here to get the strong very silent F4 Jester type. While I'm throwing out wishes: I really wish we could resize and move the action wheel where to individual taste in VR.

F4 Jester isn’t a RIO. It’s a Weapons Systems Officer. The Airforce had different priorities and crew concepts from the Navy especially in the F-4 days. Front seat fought, back seat bombed and supported the radar.

I believe you are missing the actual reason why. It is because the F4 is still so early in development. The Tomcats Jester also needed a few years until it arrived at the current level.
Phantoms Jester will catch up as well, it has nothing to do with the underlying technical foundation that Jester 2 represents 🙂

F-14 has jester. F-4 has jester v2. F-14 is getting jester 2.0. So I was assuming that they would be similar and sharing my hopes for F-14 jester 2.0 in that regard.
