winghunter Posted July 21, 2024 Posted July 21, 2024 (edited) This asset is used i.e. in the Padadise Lost campaign. When landing on one side of the pad, it will bounce the helicopter upwards and destroy it. Eventually the landing pad will be destroyed as well. Flappie Posted July 21, 2024 Posted July 21, 2024 (edited) Hi. Judging by the textures, it seems that you landed too hard, which caused the sandbag to collapse. Once collapsed, the surface is not usable to land anymore. Sandbag 11 broken.trk Edited July 21, 2024 by Flappie ---
winghunter Posted July 21, 2024 Author Posted July 21, 2024 I tried to land as soft as possible. Though in any case it should never bounce the helicopter 1 meter upwards and even damage / destroy the helicopter. This behaviour does not happen on other landing surfaces. winghunter Posted July 21, 2024 Author Posted July 21, 2024 (edited) Attached is a track file the skids need to touch the sandbags with the lightest of touch, and they will explode null exploding sandbags.trk Edited July 21, 2024 by winghunter DCS Web Editor - New 3D Mission Editor for DCS that runs in your browser DCS Web Viewer free browser based mission planner 4090 RTX, 13700KF, water cooled, Quest 3
Flappie Posted July 21, 2024 Posted July 21, 2024 OK, I think I see what is going on. Some sandbags are protruding. Maybe the damage model box does the same, which might hurt the skids. It's now reported. Thanks. 1 1 ---

It's now reported. Thanks. Just to add to this. I believe it depends if you land on the sandbags with both skids. Vertical speed/angel might have impact too. Pardon my flying. Little rusty in the Huey. After I successfully landed twice, I slid the skids onto the sandbags on purpose, took off again, and then I landed with both skids on the bags on purpose. winghunter Posted July 22, 2024 Author Posted July 22, 2024 (edited) Seems to be a huey problem after all. Just happened to me on these buildings as well, which even set the buildings on fire. Flappie Posted July 22, 2024 Posted July 22, 2024 I tried but cannot replicate the issue with roofs. Huey_skid.trk ---

You need to land with the last section of the skid on the edge. And you set the building on fire That skid is a force of pure destruction Edited July 22, 2024 by winghunter DCS Web Editor - New 3D Mission Editor for DCS that runs in your browser DCS Web Viewer free browser based mission planner 4090 RTX, 13700KF, water cooled, Quest 3
MAXsenna Posted July 22, 2024 Posted July 22, 2024 Seems to be a huey problem after all. Just happened to me on these buildings as well, which even set the buildings on fire. (Thankfully i suck at landing in the center of objects) I frequently set buildings on fire with the Gazelle in Caucasus. It's probably due to the fact that "all" objects in DCS are there for your enjoyment of destroying them. I guess a lot of objects has hitbox/damage model issues. And especially for helicopters, ground effect issues. Might be why it's hard for you to land in the centre. In the Argo campaign for the Huey. It was impossible for me to complete the campaign, because you were supposed to land on a roof in the last mission. No problem doing that, except the building slid you off the side and caught fire. The campaign devs solved it by letting you land on the ground in the vicinity. I accepted the fix after a year of grief, while I don't understand the problem with the building was not fixed, as the mission must have worked when they made the mission. In the end, it's unfortunately one of the quirks with DCS. Cheers! Sent from my SM-A536B using Tapatalk 1
winghunter Posted July 22, 2024 Author Posted July 22, 2024 The buildings are very fragile, like Hollywood props. But still it shouldnt break the huey skids and throw the helicopter 3 foot into the air on the slightest touch. 1 DCS Web Editor - New 3D Mission Editor for DCS that runs in your browser DCS Web Viewer free browser based mission planner 4090 RTX, 13700KF, water cooled, Quest 3

I've compared the Gazelle and the Huey in the model viewer: a "bone" is protruding from the back of the Huey skids. I'm not sure whether this can be the source of the issue or not, but that is definitely the part you're talking about. I'll test again. 2 ---

Flappie Posted July 23, 2024 Posted July 23, 2024 @winghunter You're 100% right: the issue comes from the Huey. I've just reproduced the issue on a "PAD single" FARP. I landed properly, then slided aft, until the tip of my skid overpassed the tip of the pad. Skid gone. I'll edit my report. Many thanks! 3 2 ---
