Viking 1-1 Posted August 6, 2024 Posted August 6, 2024 Title says it already Is there a way to create a waypoint in MGRS and not Lat/Long since all the information given by wingman/jtac or whomever is in MGRS (at least I think so)? All I found is that I could convert a existing one in a MGRS in "read only" Before you call everything a "bug": RTFM & try again! Solution Gribbstar Posted August 6, 2024 Solution Posted August 6, 2024 Steerpoints 21-25 just hit SEQ on the ICP and wait a couple of seconds. Lots of tutorials on YouTube of the finer parts of how to enter the info.
Viking 1-1 Posted August 7, 2024 Author Posted August 7, 2024 Thanks guys, will try! Before you call everything a "bug": RTFM & try again! Thank you. :music_whistling: I9-9900k, 32 GB RAM, Geforce RTX 2080 TI, 128 GB M2 SSD, 1 TB SSD, Track IR, Warthog Hotas
tsgucci Posted August 22, 2024 Posted August 22, 2024 I also faced this issue. If somebody else is also stuck here is a small guide: Only steerpoint 21 to 25 can be converted. 1. Select steerpoint 21-25 2. Dobber switch right, wait few seconds 3. rewrite grid and position (letters are changed by DED increment/decrement switch ; button with up-down arrow) 4. EAST/NORTH simply enter the mgrs coord numbers without any spacer you can use 6 (3-3) to 10 (5-5) accuracy 5. when ready move the cursor to CNVRT press enter and your coordinates are going to be converted. Chuck's Guide describes it in chapter 5.4 1 1
baltic_dragon Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 Funny fact: initially I wrote the scripts using LAT / LONG as it seems to be easier for the F-16C, but then Rain said that they would almost never use it and during OIR it would be MGRS only. 6 For more information, please visit my website. KingAhDaRIng Posted September 29, 2024 Posted September 29, 2024 (edited) Hi Baltic! Thanks again for another awesome campaign! I think I am missing something with the MGRS as whenever I input the coords, I don't see the elevation anywhere. I then find myself not being put onto the location. M3 is a good example as I put in the coords for the town and the MGRS in STPT 21 is way off. Am I missing something? Edited September 29, 2024 by KingAhDaRIng

Be sure to hit ENTR after you input the value, and then hit ENTR again on CONVERT to save the steerpoint. Part 16 (NAV & ILS) of Chucks guide for f16C, 5.4 - MRGS Coordinates null
KingAhDaRIng Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 Thanks Gilligan! I got that but I'm saying in the campaign, I can't see where the elevations are described for the location we are inputting.
KingAhDaRIng Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 Sigh. I found it in the kneeboards. IT IS ALWAYS IN THE KNEEBOARDS! 1
Gilligan Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 (edited) Sorry for misunderstanding. I didn't realize it was in the knee boards, that's neat. I knew that the redflag campaign creates a page with the JTAC 9 lines, so it makes sense they'd be there for this one too. You should also be able to pull it up in the message history. The JTAC says the elevation before the coordinates so I have to jump down to the ELEV line then back up to the coordinates when he's reading out the 9 line but it's there. Was searching for this exact information. After learning the Viper a bit, I wondered if real JTAC would use LL vs MGRS since entering MGRS is just very fiddly on the viper versus other jets, almost like it was added as an after thought. Probably easier in real life. I make mistakes and take way too long entering coords this way. But good to know you're done the research and tried to keep it real.

They almost exclusively used MGRS during their time in Syria, especially that with three different types of LAT/LONG input it created a lot of trouble. 1 For more information, please visit my website.
