Please make sure you have this redistributable on your machine. You will need to reboot the pc after you have it installed.

I had the same problem. I did have the redistributable installed, but downloading from the link and running Repair from the installer fixed the issue for me.

If you go to E:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin-mt and then double-click on dcs.exe does it run?

The error message you are getting is to do with file permissions so knowing whether it will work directly is a starting point

So, immediately after updating DCS to its current version, i get error  0xc0000142 when i launch. I have restarted the PC multiple times, repaired DCS (standalone). Nothing in Event logs or in logs in DCS in the saved games folder. Very frustrated.

I downloaded the file in the solution link and attempted to install it. It fails to install.

did you right click and install as administrator ?

Did not previously try as admin but just did now and getting same error. It starts and the progress bar moves a bit past half way then error. Also updated windows, ran sfc /scannow and restorehealth as well...

try shutting your PC down, and rebooting it, see if that fixes it.

Special K helped me out in Discord, I had quite a few runtimes that seemed to be causing the issue. Deleted with another program and installed the new runtime successfully. DCS working fine again.

I had this same issue and this seems to have fixed it, thank you, HOWEVER, why did this occur and what can I do to prevent this, everything was fine, I was playing just fine, updated the game, then tried to play again and this error occurred. Was this user error?

Microsoft often updates redistributable's, or removes legacy ones, the above redistributable is required for DCS to run, most people have it, some do not and it requires a manual download.

Been playing the game fine for years, then this just happened a couple of days ago. Definitely smells like Microsoft's feet 🦶.    Thanks for the fix BIGNEWY

I feel like this needs to be more known, like maybe on the launcher in an announcement tab. It's now happened to me multiple times over the past few weeks, I know a handful of people in my discord groups that has this randomly too. I now how the fix on my desktop and just run a repair. What in the hell is happening that keeps breaking this? Some background windows update... windows needs to stop being intrusive. Onedrive is already a joke. How to I prevent this from being prevalent now...?

Hi Chaps,

Been off DCS for a month or so but just updated to latest release via Steam yesterday.Sad to say I'm getting EXACTLY the same messages as 104th_Money as above and I'm at a complete loss on how to fix this issue...spent today scratching my head in frustration🙃

I have downloaded your file link BIGNEWY but it refuses to load.

Any help much appreciated!

when you say refuses to load... do you mean it does not download? or does it not install?

i just tried the link shared and had no issues. but i did not try to install it because i have no issues. if you look in apps on windows, you may see many instances of various versions.
