MT Not For Me Right Now, Can I Still Rollback

Hi All

I tried running MT yesterday and found it was unplayable. Trackir was stuttering all the time as well as plane movement etc. I have the latest ST version and I realise its broken but am I still able to rollback to the last working ST version? I cannot afford a super upgrade at the moment so will have to do some hard saving.

Any info would be great

you can stay on this current version and use ST if you wish to.

But future versions will be MT, if you are having issues you should attach your dcs log and dxdiag so we can try to assist you

What are your hardware specs? CPU, GPU and RAM?

I assume MT is rather revealing issues than necessarily causing them.

My CPU and graphics is the problem. If I get a chance, I will upload a log file. I enjoy flying and would rather use ST until I can rebuild my pc so that it can handle the extra workload.

All I need to know is regarding rollback. If I can't, I will stick with the version I have. Its the same old story, progress is great but it comes at a cost.

Cheers

you should be able to roll back to the previous version if it is not good for you, but I would recommend trying it as the team have been working hard and continue to work on optimisations.

thank you

I get your idea. I was going for the possibility that MT doesn’t necessarily run worse than ST when the underlaying issue is found. Unless you have really specific or old hardware that is. And it could be worth investigating since eventually ST won’t be an option anymore.

I have been with DCS for ages and understand the hard work that goes into it. This is the second time I have tried to run MT with the same results.

I am happy to enjoy flying for a while until I can upgrade my kit. My brother has the same setup as me so we will both rollback and enjoy what we can. I can only hope that MT gets some optimisation for lower end PCs then maybe update later. I will wait and see.

PM me with your dcs log and dxdiag I am happy to try and help, maybe offer some suggestions.

Thanks bignewy

When i have time I will do that. As a note, I have rolled back 2 places and all is fine. I will load MT from there and PM the logs. A bit of work to do outside while the weather holds before the onslaught of Winter. It comes fast here ha

I am going to clear all logs and start MT up. Then a 1 plane flight if possible. I will upload the log for anyone to check. I still think its down to my rig but I can't spend big money at the moment as too many jobs need sorting.

I have rolled back to a working ST for the moment.

I will have a look at Enter-Alt.

Cheers

Thank you for the PM, I hope I have given you some advice that helps, the GTX 960 is probably your weakest point on the system, updating that would help if you get the chance.

I thought as much Bignewy. I might try and look for something better, second hand or new. Any suggestions so that it would run DCS MT smoothly at 60-75fps 1080p?

Cheers

I am no expert but if your ST runs DCS smoothly then so should your MT.

I had also an issue on a 10yr old rig with MT and after digging through forums for months, I found out that my issue can be solved by resetting the core affinity.

My point is, don't take the "car dealership" approach first and start throwing money at the hardware if you really don't need to.

I say again, this is provided that your ST runs fine. I've had ppl tell me all sorts of things, which turned out to be complete nonsense.

We need to know the rest of your HW: CPU, RAM, have SSD already? You probably already can get DCS to run smoothly but this depends a lot on what moment in what mission/map and what settings you mean because no hardware can get you smooth experience in all cases.

Many thanks Pavlin 33. I am going to take the slow approach and check whether the mods etc are causing a problem. I am going to increase my pagefile as well and see what happens. I do feel that my gpu is very outdated but it runs ST fine for what I want.

Draconus, I have i5 6600k, 32meg ram, 960gtx 4gig and 4 ssd drives.

If anything, I would look to get a better gpu.

A good setup for its time. It'd be best to have a newer CPU/GPU combo if possible but if not - just to manage expectations - new GPU will allow you to set higher graphics settings, add some AA and get you nice fps in most situations but you'll still be CPU limited in other cases and nothing will change wrt MT.

@Pavlin_33 6600K is 4 physical cores only. Do you suggest to still set some core affinity to it? What would that be?

My CPU also has only 4 cores. The affinity setting is a workaround, that someone here on forums discovered, where you first deselect one of the cores on DCS.exe and then straight after re-select "all" and MT magically runs smooth again.

I don't know what's the techical reason behind it, but it works in my case.

In my case it seemed physically impossible that a ST version would run smooth and MT would stutter due to hardware. Luckily a workaround for my issue was found.

I've got an old i8700K in my case, old mobo too. 32GB RAM, and an RTX 3080ti. I've got pretty much everything on High, running DLSS. 32" 144hz LG monitor. I set my max frame rate to 140. I run in the 100s fps most of the time using the MT.exe. Reflected's campaigns run great. I'll get down to 70-60 fps in his depending on where I am in the game/mission space. :joystick:

However, in your situation; I would save up and do a complete rebuild, so in the next few years if something awe inspiring comes out, you can upgrade knowing your Mobo, CPU, and Power Supply can handle the speed and power requirements. And your bottlenecks will be reduced or gone completely.
