I'm experiencing pretty bad performance in VR but I can't afford to upgrade my entire system right now, so I can really only upgrade one component, what do you recommend?

My specs are:

  • AMD 5950X
  • RTX 3080ti
  • 32GB DRR4 3200Mhz
  • DCS installed onto NVMe

Running the Quest 3 headset, targeting 45FPS

Processor would be my guess, but honestly I'd look at your operating system hygiene and settings first

As stated, system hygiene and settings. However, from your hardware specification listing, I would look at upgrading your RAM to 64GB.

Any stats on your VRAM usage? Could be worth looking at the DCS optimised textures tool:

Also as @speed-of-heat says. System hygiene, especially extraneous running processes or background utils.

DCS is having a lot of performance issues right now, so I'd recommend not upgrading.  You have a pretty beefy system and should run DCS fine when it is performing correctly. Don't waste your money friend 🙂

I would sit tite as noted due to poor dcs performance...but for vr if I was pushed I'd say gpu.

Hold off on a major upgrade...however 64 GB RAM would help everywhere.

Given that you should easily be able to reach 45 FPS in VR with this setup, I assume you don't want to sacrifice eye candy.
From that conclusion the upgrade path is an easy choice. Go for a GPU upgrade.

Other than that. If you don't want to save up for a platform upgrade, just for VR, the 5800X3D would be roughly 20-25% upgrade to CPU-frametimes and 64 GB do never hurt.
