miguez Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 The equipment is all here! OK guys, it's been a little while, but I have used it wisely. Since we last spoke I have bought a new computer, which will be dedicated to creating the training series, as well as supporting equipment. I have not set it up yet, but here are some teaser pics and some specs of what I'll be using. This post is to show I am pretty serious about this. Here's the worst part. The computer just came in yesterday, and I have had no time to even take it out of the box. Tonight and tomorrow night are also shot, and I am traveling for business on the weekend to stay out for a whole week. It's driving me CRAZY! COMPUTER This is a CyberPower PC machine. The specs are: Motherboard: ASUS P6T Intel X58 CPU: Intel i7-920 2.66 GHz (already planning on overclocking) RAM: 12GB DDR3/1600 MHz Kingston HyperX (mostly for video editing) Power Supply: 800 Watt power supply Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX275 896MB 16x PCIe Hard Drive 1: 1.5 TB 3.0Gb/s SATA-II 32MB Cache 7200 RPM Hard Drive 2: 64 GB Kingston 2.5 inch SATA Gaming MLC Solid State Disk Optical Drive: LG 22X DVD±R/±RW + CD-R/RW Dual Layer Drive Sound Card: Creative Labs SB X-FI Titanium Fatal1ty Champion Series PCI Express Keyboard: Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit, with free upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit I needed a monitor, since I've been working out of a laptop until now, so I got the following. Oh, and that's Little Kitty scratching herself in the picture: Acer LCD X233HBID 23", 5ms response time, resolution 1920 x 1080 (to allow for 1080 HD recording) For sound recordings, I went out and educated myself a little bit on microphones, since I didn't know a whole lot about it. I settled on this. Oh, and that's Tiny Kitty poking his head from behind the box: Samson C01U Condenser Microphone Recording Pak Samson PS01 Pop Filter, with my dog Roxy behind it. Can you tell I like animals yet? :) I also upgraded my TrackIR to this: TrackIR 5 with TrackClip Pro Oh, and by the way, nothing wrong with having a little extra fun while shooting this trainng series, so I got this too: Speakers: Logitech Z-5500 Digital 5.1 Configuration Speakers All of this should result in a very good setup to record high quality video and audio for this whole series (and any future ones too, hopefully!). Big Picture Items To Be Done (in no particular order): - Website - Scripts - Production - Editing More updates coming soon, stay tuned!
AlphaOneSix Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Love the FlightSafety book, shouldn't you be studying?! We are constantly sending people to FlightSafety for Bell 412 training.
miguez Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Love the FlightSafety book, shouldn't you be studying?! We are constantly sending people to FlightSafety for Bell 412 training. Hahaha, nah, I work there, hopefully I already know it! Your guys go to Ft. Worth, huh? Thanks for the business!
sobek Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 (edited) Nice setup, but be careful with the logitech speakers, they tend to make their subs overly powerful compared to the rest of the 5.1 set and that can warp audio monitoring quite a bit. Probably ok if you only record voice overs (be sure to use a 50 or 80 Hz low cut if your software allows, the pop filter should also help a lot). Edited September 18, 2009 by sobek Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
miguez Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Yeah sobek, only voice overs. The speakers are just to have fun while flying BS :).
Tbag Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Wow, nice setup miguez! Have fun setting it up! "Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so." - Douglas Adams

miguez Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 OK, some good news and some disappointing news. The good news: My business trip was cancelled, so I now have time to finally open the new computer and set it up! The disappointing news: When I took the tower out of the box, it sounded like something was lose inside. I opened the side panel and saw that the Thermaltake big CPU fan I had opted for was completely lose, with one of it's plastic attaching legs snapped, what probably caused it to dislodge itself during shipping. So, this will be a considerable delay, as I'll have to ship it back, and wait for a new machine, as I am afraid the fan might have damaged the other components, such as the motherboard, my awesome looking GTX275, etc. It is so depressing to have all this new equipment sitting right under my nose and not being able to turn it on for the first time!!!! Oh well, nothing I can do. I contacted CyberPower and am waiting for their answer. Sorry fellas, this will delay the series by a couple of weeks, i am sure.
Tbag Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Thats rubbish! I bought a GTX285 a couple of month ago and four weeks ago it decided not to talk with my screen anymore. So I had to send the card back and wait for the replacement - two weeks of waiting around :( Hope you are more lucky! "Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so." - Douglas Adams
miguez Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Yeah, stuff happens, what are you going to do :)? No worries though, I am sure CyberPower will fix it up as soon as they can, then I'm in business! And as far as being in business goes, I am in the process of applying for an LLC license, as well as contacting professionals to create the website. I originally had wanted to learn web development and create it myself, both for knowledge and savings, but I don't want to delay it any longer than I have to, so I'll put an expert on it.
Tbag Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009  Nice one! Is it only heavy armour or also other stuff like air defences? "Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so." - Douglas Adams
miguez Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009  Nice one! Is it only heavy armour or also other stuff like air defences? It's all of it, very cool stuff!
Tbag Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 What does that little yellow tag in the top right corner say? 2$ !!!????? "Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so." - Douglas Adams
miguez Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 (edited) That's the best part, not even... I bought it used at Amazon for $0.14. That's right, that's no typo. Then I had to pay $4 on shipping :) I noticed your signature quote, by the way, and I can say I'm a big fan of his. 42 :) Edited October 2, 2009 by miguez
Tbag Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Ordered mine for 1.37GBP :) Back on Topic: How's your new rig doing? "Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so." - Douglas Adams
