Hi!

Should the collective brake (usually key "F") be automatically activated when the joystick throttle moves? would it be a nice idea or I am missing something?

I think it would be more natural by liberating us from pressing key "F" each time to send data to ALT autopilot when using typical hotas that let us move the throttle without releasing any "brake".

Can it be done via mod? via joystick configuration? via patch?

Yes I use that too, but both things are "de-coupled" in the sim but in real life you can't move the collective unless you release the brake (AFAIK). I wish both are coupled in some way. Could be:

-Asign/map the joystick throttle so it activates also the collective brake automatically.

-Patch the game so the collective doesen't move (even if you move the joystick throttle) unless collective brake is released (by pressing the key or a mapped button).

I like this idea. As an option, of course.

Hi!

This is very easy to do in the profile editor for my Saitek X-52 Pro and works very well.

I have observed that collective brake sometimes stuck if simple "F" key press is used. Advanced command ("F" press as macro on press, nothing to repeat, "F" release with delay 0.5s on release) relieves from this problem.

NOTE: advanced command allows to emulate pressing and releasing of keyboard's keys separately. "F" key is pressed on press event and released only at release event. Difference between pressing and releasing is shown as different squares of key presses (look at screenshot).

Ive never used the collective brake since this game was released, and havnt really noticed any negative input. I thought the item was not fully implimented in this game yet?

Could somebody please explain what impact using/or not using the collective brake will have on HOTAS throttle imput? Will my collective % vary ingame even if im not inputing the X52pro throttle?

When you X52 users say youve implimented the collective brake into your SST profile. Have applied the above macro with release as a "directional axis" command and allowed DCS to manage collective input using the throttle without conflict?

The collective brake is only useful in DCS when used in conjunction with the Altitude Hold AP channel. Specifically, your current altitude is set as the desired hold altitude each time you depress the brake.

OK thx Slug for clearing that up.

I just added it anyway to my profile as a directional axis like i mentioned above and it seems to function ok with a .3sec release.

Works fantastic in my x45. Can it also be done from in-game controls configuration?

Even with "F" mapped to my throttle, I still climb or descent during hover...

Is altitude channel of autopilot on? In what position your throttle is? Autopilot can "correct" your input only in about 20%, so if you set very low or very high collective, AP won't hold the altitude, because it can't make such large corrections. Also, look at in game collective. Is brake released after you stop moving your (real) throttle?

In the Saitek profile editor scroll down to the throttle setup area. Hold the mouse pointer over the throttle setup box and you will notice a small right arrow in the upper right of the throttle box. If you left click on that arrow a list will drop down. By default, there will be a check mark on 'Fallback' or 'Unprogrammed' ( don't remember which ). You will want to change that to 'directional axis' by clicking on that selection. New command boxes will now appear in the throttle area for 'Throttle +' and 'Throttle -'. Now you can enter the key command (F in this case) in each of new command boxes. You will need to adjust the throttle sensitivity more or less depending on how noisy youre throttle quadrant is.

Can the in-game controller configurator make this? I've tried to assign in-game Collective Brake to throttle axis but it doesen't work. Do we necessarily need out of game utilitiers like Saitek profile editor?

Thanks Cap_Z. This works well. Used in combination with ZaltyZ's example of how to set up the "F" key as an advanced command using a delay on the release, the collective brake moves as if one was grasping the collective. Much improved control when establing desired altitude hold. The Z's know something ;).

Collective brake/altitude reset works fine. I use it every time I move my collective. It took some simple programming of my button to make it stay in sync.

One of these days I will attach a relay to it and do a "Mue-Mod" so it locks into place.

I'm using the warthog. Wish there was a way to make the collective brake automatically operate when I move the collective though... I have it mapped to the mic switch at the moment.
