I left DCS a few months ago when I started school again. Now that I have more time on my hands, every time I join a server, it is completely unplayable for at least 30 minutes (I wish I was exaggerating) because of extreme lag. This has never happened before, and I can only assume it's because the developers messed something up. I am infuriated by this as I will load for 30 minutes and then spontaneously crash the game. FIX THIS ED. This is unacceptable after the amount of money I have sunk into your game. Is anyone else having this issue?

Maybe you have only 16 GB of ram or less? DCS has increased its memory requirement in recent versions, 32 GB is now the recommended amount:

For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra

For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600 - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia RTX2080 - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar

Can you please attach your “C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\DCS\Logs\dcs.log” file, may just be called “dcs” if Windows is hiding file extensions. Make sure the log is taken after the game has completely loaded.

Remove all mods, run a slow repair of the game (with the option ticked to remove files), delete the fxo and metashaders2 folders in the “C:\Users\username\Saved Games\DCS” directory and try again.

If it crashes again then without restarting the game send another log. There may also be a crash zip file there as well.

I’ve had loads of trouble for months. Stuttering or crashing altogether. Last week flying on a MP server it shutdown the computer, turned it all off for me. Happened twice in a week.

I haven’t changed a thing. 32gb ram here.

Hope it improves for ya.

I have 32gb of ram and DCS seems to run fine for me and my friends, have you tried any troubleshooting methods? What servers are you joining? I feel like this is kinda needed to troubleshoot a problem with some degree of accuracy.

For me, I can’t be arsed with it any more, I’m resigned to the fact it’s out of my hands. I’ve tried fiddling, there’s plenty of posts of things to try around the forum. I just can’t be arsed with fiddling lately. When it works it works, when it doesn’t I do something else that does. I get no trouble with anything else.

Good luck to the OP though.

DCS won't do this. If your PC is shutting itself down then you have an instability in your system somewhere else, e.g. memory timing issues, temps, hardware etc. There are ways of diagnosing this.

Two kind of people here as always.

First Kind: „Hey guys, I have a 12700K with a 3080 and 32 Gigs of RAM. What kind of performance should I expect, because I have the feeling mine is unreasonable low. Can you help me troubleshoot?“

Second Kind: „Hey, ED. With my undisclosed specs I only get 18 fps, stutters like hell and days of load times. Fix your frickin hot mess of a game!“ 😆

Guess which kind gets more support from the community….

Here is my DCS log file (I cant find my dxdiag looked through my C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\DCS folders and didn't see it) My specs are as follows: RTX 3070, 32 GB of DDR4 RAM, Ryzen 7 2700x, and the game is located on my C drive, which is an NVMe SSD. Sorry for my initial post being so angry. I was frustrated and worked up after trying to join a server four separate times, only for it to crash to the desktop or freeze. Thanks for your willingness to help even though I came off rude. Sorry agian.

I do have 32 GB of RAM, and I was trying to join 4YA Caucus US1 first, then tried, I believe, Greyflag after. I had the same issues on both servers, maybe its the servers having too many things going on for my PC to handle. My specs are: RTX 3070, 32 GB of DDR4 RAM, Ryzen 7 2700x, and the game is located on my C drive, which is an NVMe SSD.

That sounds good. I am 1/4th through my repair. I will post a new log once it is done. I have no mods installed; I just purchased the vanilla planes. Thanks for being willing to help, even though my initial post was less than ideal. Thanks, and sorry.

Its a Windows tool. Run DxDiag and save the report it produces and drop it here. It tells use more about your system and also contains the last 10 application crashes on your PC.

I've had a look at this log, and dropped it into the DCS log analyzer. It doesn't contain a crash, so load into that multiplayer server and send one when this occurs. Here is the initial following feedback.

  • If you have FPS issues, try turning off VSYNC in graphics settings.
  • Enable Full Screen mode.
  • Turn off Depth of Field.
  • Turn down Anisotropic Filtering.
  • Set Preload Radius to max. 60000.
  • Disable civil traffic.

Your preload radius is currently really high (100000) so dropping that right down will reduce the amount of textures that get initially loaded. This may be why you get that long slow load time at the beginning. You only have an 8Gb VRAM card so once that's full it'll start spilling out into your system ram and page file, which will be much slower.

Are both DCS and your page file on SSD drives (preferably NVMe)?

If you haven't already then add the entire DCS installation folder as an exclusion into your anti-virus software as well and then restart your PC. Are you using Windows Defender for this, or another 3rd party anti-virus software?

I do have 32 GB of RAM. I don't think that is the issue, but I could be wrong. Sorry for not including that in my initial post.

No problem, having less than 32 GB was just a guess ... now looking at your log it shows a networking error: "Login failed with code 502", so maybe there was a temporary internet error with the DCS authentication servers. Does your issue still persists?

Just applied these changes, will try and join a server as soon as I can. I'm not running an antivirus for that reason, and yes, both the page file and DCS are on an SSD NVMe. I will keep you updated.

I'm about to find out. I'm going to change some settings around at Sleighzy's recommendation and see what happens.

Thanks so much. It was definitely an operator error on my part. You totally fixed it. I joined a random server, and it loaded up just fine like it used to. Sorry to all of you for being so rude and obnoxious with my initial post. I was not expecting a response, and you guys came through. Thanks so much!!
