Seems to be a relict from WW 2. Bachem Ba349 "Natter" (Colubrid). A one way rocket plane. Vertical take off. Armed with 24 rockets in the snub nose. Nick named "Beer crate Flak". After the war, Bachem became famous for building caravans (Eriba - Erich Bachem).

Really, guys? Maybe this is the wrong Hobby / Simulator for you? This is a very common thing on many airports of the world. . . to practise/train firefighting in case of a plane crash landing. . . it a mockup which can be set on fire.

Amazing to have Bardufoss in DCS.

Now "only" a flyable Ju 88 or He 111 and alot of WWII ships are missing to simulate the attacks to the convoys up there, that would be totaly amazing

Love this map!

Just a small detail, but if the developers would give the North Cape area some love, it surely could enhance realism.
As of now, this spot seems to be represented by just one simple building on top of the hill.

IRL, there are several structures as depicted on the these photos:

Aerial photo of North Cape area

Grid globe structure at North Cape

ArcGIS World Imagery View

Google Satellite View

Google Street View

A big thank you and kudos to the developers, please keep your efforts which are greatly appreciated!  😉👍👍

Hey @Fisherman82 We added the apron to help with AI functionality because planes were running into some trouble without it 😞 They’d sometimes face pathing issues, causing traffic jams on the airfield where nothing could take off, or even run out of fuel while taxiing from the farthest parking spot to the runway. To fix this, we wanted to create a solution that didn’t take away too many parking spots. The apron was designed to make things run smoother while keeping the airfield intact.

Fingers crossed! 🤞

Thanks! We love it too 🙂

Fingers crossed there will be something out soon 🙂 🤞

Oh my god they dont intend to remove the big apron at Jokkmokk. Thats a showstopper for using that base for me sadly.

The base is not intact anymore, they created a Nellis AFB in the middle of the Swedish forrest, obviously no clue what a Bas 90 base is irl.

They could have done this and the widening of the side runways way better, they could have done it with grass/snow textures instead so its not a total monstrosity for people who expected a realistic representation of the base. This marks a shift in striving for realism, they are pulling fantasy stuff out of a hat and adding it to the map now.

@Marina Will you be accepting refunds for this map now that you have chosen to deviate from the path of realism and instead switched to adding fictional stuff to enhance gameplay? I cant think of any other similar feature being added to any other DCS map like this so this was not something that you expect when you buy a DCS map.

Any buyer should be entitled to a refund if desired since the map is no longer up to expected DCS standard.

Early Access is not for you, apparently. Lesson learned.

Fish, if you're that unhappy, I believe that you can use the mission editor to remove everything in a specific area, with the exception of the ground textures.  Give that a try.

Its not my first Early Access DCS module, I I know perfectly fine what it is. There is no lesson about that to be learned here about that. This base was perfectly fine earlier in Early Access, instead of improving it they decided to change into a fictional layout that makes it look nothing like the real thing and makes it possible to use it totally different than the real thing. Early Access is for adding features and improve things so the product reaches the end goal that was advertised. Not a period to decide if it should be a realistic or fictional map. They never advertised that this or any other base should be fictional to this extent. With this logic they may very well add extra runways on other bases or extra fictional bases in the middle of the forrest to make a better setup for multiplayer airbattles with many aircraft for example. This base should have limitations regarding parking and taxing and the side runways should be narrow to land on because that is how a BAS 90 base is in real life. And now they have announced it complete both here and in the changlog so Early Access for this base is over.

Well you know the ground textures are what I want to remove so that wont help me at all.

Oh well, never mind.

Looks to me that AI taxiing problems is a DCS issue. The "I" in "AI" is way too low it seems 🙂. The navaids are lacking everywhere, or are a real mess. This is IMO also a DCS issue mostly. The DME is inop in all beacons.lua files on all maps, thus no ILS or LOC is actually working in any case (with an inop DME, these ILS'es and LOCs would be turned off. Marker beacons are from a long gone age). No mountain hangars in Bodø or Bardufoss, DCS also perhaps? Don't know. And probably worst of all, WHITE centerlines on roads in Norway... I mean, it's like having blue leaves instead of green. Not to speak of the lack of 20+ regional (and international) airports along the coast (clearly not a DCS issue though).

Buuut, it's getting there, inch by inch. Every update includes something new and/or improved. These maps takes years and years anyway, no reason to complain or give up just yet. We can point Orbx in the right direction though.

Yesterday i spend 3 hours flying in Kola.

I don´t know where are the 165Gb of this map, because quality is not reflected.

At this point im starting to regret of this buy, looking other maps like Iraq or Afghanistan...

Iraq looks really good. Flying the Apache in the Kola map is unimpressive.
It is early access, so let us hope the map get better with subsequent developments.
