I Have Vipil equipment for fixed wing and have loved it!  Its great quality and functionality and I'm looking for a great hardware option for the collective.  Is Virpil considered high end and/or best bang for the buck or should I open up my view to additional options?

I use the Virpil collective Rotorplus base with the Virpil Spache grip and I‘m very happy with my setup.

I guess a few were wondering why you were asking about  Virpil quality if you already have some of their stuff and like it.

I have Virpil base + Black Hawk grip (Virpil too):

I can confidently recommend it.

Virpil has also the grip for Apache: https://virpil-controls.eu/vpc-dual-sf-collective-grip.html.

I got the Hawk on a VIrpil TCS Plus - but will be ordering the Apache grip later this month with the Counter-Balance kit 🙂

But was wondering what are people using as Cyclic, i got a brand new AVA base from TM - and the A-10 grip and the F-18 grip but can't find out which i like the best - anyone got experience with this... and could i but a Virpil grip on the base or will i lose to much functionality..?

Sorry to steal the thread 😉

i have the Virpil plus collective + an Alpha-L grip to go with it

Do NOT buy the plus virpil collective as the twist throttle bit on it is pretty useless, get the normal version instead as you can save some coin

No more pre-orders

I have a Virpil collective (without the twist throttle) and use it with a Hawk grip.  Works great.

Other options that spring to mind are:

  • The K14, which can be found in the for sale area.  Half the price of the Virpil, if a bit less professional looking, and also has a fixed grip
  • WinWing unit
  • Komodo systems.  This one is MUCH more expensive

I've not used any of the non-Virpil versions, so can't really comment their build quality and similar.

One point worth mentioning is that I tried a Virpil Alpha Left grip with the collective base and didn't really get on with it.  The Alpha grip has an ergonomic curve to it's head, which works great when used upright as a cyclic, but is really bad for comfort when horizonal.  Hence why I replaced it with the Hawk grip, which I really rate.

This is true, but it also depends on how you mount the collective.

If you mount it to your chair, this can be a problem as you describe.  If you mount it to the floor this is less of an issue since the angle of the collective coming up from the floor makes the grip feel more natural.

It is something to be aware of, though.
