Definitely yes. Though not some classified variants, or not the ones very different from the original variant, requiring basically a full work of a new module from scratch like F-15EX or MiG-29K.

But at lest the ones requiring absolutely minimum work, like disabling few functions, to make a different variant, unlocking many years of aircraft service. E.g. F/A-18C or F-15C from the Cold War/Desert Strorm era, earlier Mi-8MTV from Afganistan, Vietnam era F-4E, Cold War era AJS-37 Viggen etc. Where changes required to make a new variant would be minimal.

I would love to have more variants, but I'm personally thinking more along the lines of:

  • F-16A Block 10/15 - best-fit counterpart for the 9.12A MiG-29 ED are doing
  • F-15A (or at least, a mid 80s to early 1990s F-15C) - fits CW Germany and Gulf War missions.
  • Mi-24V - bit more iconic than the P, but shares quite a lot in common with it, hypothetically less work than a Mi-35P Phoenix (presumably that's what OP is referring to)
  • UH-60A/L - closest contemporary to Mi-8MTV2, would fit Germany, Iraq, Afghanistan and most of our aircraft. We already have an AI A so a module would kill 2 birds with 1 stone (both adding a contemporary module and upgrading the graphics of the current A).
  • CH-47C/D - more historically relevant than the CH-47F, fits more of our aircraft and maps, more operators, fits a wider timeframe (obviously depending on what equipment is present).

F-4J/S is probably coming by Heatblur further down the line, the main Phantom version that's missing for me personally (and one we'll have 2 maps for) is the F-4M Phantom FGR.2. Speaking of Heatblur, they've got an AI A-6E coming soon, they did have an AI KA-6D planned (I hope it still is) an AI EA-6B Prowler (preferably ICAP II) would complete the set.

Absolutely. There is a ton of potential variety from variants alone and they would allow more accurate historical simulations.

Honestly though I would like to see more more variants even if it requires a remodel as long there’s not too much change in the outside and maybe one day hire more ppl to complete major modules more quickly

On my particular case, the only DCS aircraft for which I would pay again for a variant, is the JA variant of the Viggen … for all others, I’d rather spend the money on a completely different aircraft, like the Eurofighter for example.

I dont know. I must admit, I'm rather sceptical about that proposition. Although I can see the beauty of having more closely matched counterparts available, there is already a rather old example of that in both A-10 versions and to be honest, I've never seen the older one w/o HMCS or TGP getting much action on any MP servers. Of course, doesnt mean that there isn't and the A-10 being rather deep down and sophisticated in switchology, if you want to stay on top of things, you choose once and dont switch sides and procedures very often after that or you end up mixing things the wrong way.

Still could be rather easy to do though, limiting functionality, basically replacing/removing some panels in the cockpit.

Yeah that’s true I didn’t think of that

Probably true, while the single player community is the majority, so MP doesn't really matter in this context, until Cold War really hits it off.

I have some mixed feelings as well. I would much rather have new vehicles over variants of existing modules, however, there are some modules I can definitely see the argument for having different variants and I have asked for them myself. Ideally every module should have multiple variants but that is not possible then there should be a package deal for buying multiple variants.
