Gunfreak Posted May 3 Posted May 3 I can not complete my mission as I hit exit the game crashes for lack of memory. Even if I try to save half way through the mission the game crashes as I try and save. I have 64gig DDR5, and so it shouldn't actually be a problem. No other map causes this problem dcs.log-20250503-103041.zip i7 13700k @5.2ghz, GTX 5090 OC, 128Gig ram 4800mhz DDR5, M2 drive.
T.Power Posted May 8 Posted May 8 I've not had any crashes but I've never seen my 64gb RAM running at 85% on any other map on a very simple mission. "For many the glass is half empty whilst for others it is half full, but for some, the milk is sour." - Unknown French Philosopher
western_JPN Posted May 8 Posted May 8 Hi. Your log shows that Windows' Pagefile is only 9064 MB. When main RAM is 64GB, Pagefile may need at least 32768 MB (or 65536 MB when possible) for DCS. Modules: A-10C/II, F-4E, F-5E(Re), F-14A/B, F-15E, F-16C, F/A-18C, AV-8B, FC3, Ka-50-2/3, UH-1H, Mi-8MTV2, SA342, Mi-24P, AH-64D, CH-47F, P-51D Maps: Nevada, PG, Syria, SA, Sinai, Kola, Afghanistan, Iraq, CW Germany, Channel, Normandy2.0 Assets etc.: CA, Sc, WW2AP Mods and Skins in User Files: files/filter/user-is-western0221/

If you have physical 64GB RAM and you require page file, something is very wrong. Is the whole map trying to get loaded in RAM? Having large page file is not a requirement, the page file is the offload for when there is not enough RAM. That helps when you have 8-16GB RAM, sometimes even with 32GB if what you're doing is very resource intensive, but there is no requirement to have a page file size = x2 of your physical RAM, that just doesn't make any sense. 4
Raven (Elysian Angel) Posted May 8 Posted May 8 Reducing pre-load radius to 10km (plenty for helicopter operations) has helped me with excessive memory usage. 1 Spoiler Ryzen 9 5900X | 64GB G.Skill TridentZ 3600 | Asus ProArt RTX 4080 Super | ASUS ROG Strix X570-E GAMING | Samsung 990Pro 2TB + 960Pro 1TB NMVe | VR: Varjo Aero Pro Flight Trainer Puma | VIRPIL MT-50CM2 grip on VPForce Rhino with Z-curve extension | Virpil CM3 throttle | Virpil CP2 + 3 | FSSB R3L | VPC Rotor TCS Plus base with SharKa-50 grip | Everything mounted on Monstertech MFC-1 | TPR rudder pedals OpenXR | PD 1.0 | 100% render resolution | DCS graphics settings

These suggested sizes are a misconception related to the need to have your RAM amount as pagefile to be able to hybernate your system. I doubt that is still required these days, even when you do use hybernate. In many cases you can even turn it off completely if you have that much RAM. However, it's best to have at least some pagefile as some applications might rely on it being present. 2 Spoiler W10-x64 | B650E Gigabyte Aorus Master | AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D | Noctua NH-D15 G.Skill Trident ZS Neo DDR5-6000 64Gb | MSI RTX 3080ti Gaming X Asus Xonar AE | TM Hotas Warthog MFG Crosswind pedals | Valve Index

Preload radius makes no difference for me, lowest to highest setting. Quc and myself have seen circa 1GB difference between a setting of around 45% and 100% 7800x3d, 5080, 64GB, PCIE5 SSD - Oculus Pro - Moza (AB9), Virpil (Alpha, CM3, CM1 and CM2), WW (TOP and CP), TM (MFDs, Pendular Rudder), Tek Creations (F18 panel), Total Controls (Apache MFD), Jetseat

In my tests there is a definite VRAM impact of about 1Gb 9800x3d - rtx5080 FE - 64Gb RAM 6000MHz - 2Tb NVME - Quest Pro (previous rift s and Pico 4). plott1964 Posted May 14 Posted May 14 So, if you find that VRAM usage is too high, what can you do about it?
