🔄 Integration of Dynamic ATIS and Real-Time Weather in DCS

Message:

Hello Eagle Dynamics team,

I would like to suggest the implementation of a native Automatic Terminal Information Service (ATIS) system, as well as real-time weather synchronization using live data (METAR, TAF, etc.), similar to what some community mods are already offering.

These features would greatly enhance immersion for both offline missions and multiplayer servers, especially for those of us seeking a more realistic training or simulation environment. Ideally, the ATIS could broadcast information such as wind direction, QNH, active runway, visibility, temperature, and so on—either via text or audio—and be linked to the scenario’s weather data or, optionally, to live real-world conditions.

We’re aware of tools like MOOSE, SRS, various Weather Mods, and even SkyFX, which provide partial solutions through extra scripting or setup. But why not bring this functionality officially into DCS?

Thank you for your continued hard work and for listening to the community.
Best regards.

Native ATIS would be useful. The format is standardized, the recording is canned, and most airports have it. All information needed for it is already in DCS, and it would be quite useful for dynamic campaign.

Also an interesting bonus: an ATIS station on common UHF channels would provide an ADF bearing directly to the airfield that would be usable with Western aircraft. Since most of them have UHF radios that can't receive regular NDBs, but have an ADF function, it would become possible to home in on the source of the ATIS broadcast. Just tune into the ATIS, select ADF, and follow the a continuously looping transmission coming from somewhere at the airfield.

ATIS would be useful, however only if we get dynamic weather as well (not necessarily real-time, but it has to change over time).
If the weather is static then there's basically 0 usability for the ATIS as what's in the briefing screen will not change until the mission file changes

Nevertheless, having both in DCS one day would be a very welcome addition

Real time weather has been a huge game changer in the civil flight sims for me. Would love to see it in DCS.

The big difference between those sims and DCS is, in DCS we simulate historic areas and days in the past. I don't know how immersive it would feel to have today's weather for a day in e.g. 1985 Germany?

But I'd like to find out.

I think it was already requested in the past. I think it's super useful and important. Moreover, it's a low hanging fruit. It will be so easy to implement (ATIS in kneeboard or via F10).

Problem is, that generally speaking - ED tend to over complicate solutions for relatively simple problems. I bet it will be part of their new ATC system... But till then - they won't do an "ok" solution (while people don't even need more than "ok").

I hope I'm wrong... and ED will implement an ATIS brief (AI generated voice as it is IRL for AWOS and in ATIS at some airports... Or even just a written note). Same for METAR (that doesn't really change anyways at the moment... But of course can update... etc.
