Are the AI assets and planes part of the maps?

New here, I bought the Normandy map, spitfire and WWII assets.

Thinking of buying the Kola map.

I have only had a very quick look at the mission editor but wonder about the AI planes and assets. Do these come as part of the Maps. So with Normandy, I have all the wwii planes available to use in missions. Like wise with the Kola map, all cold war planes?

Actualy all the maps has outside about the "assets packs". Has builded by diferent teams.

Yes and No, most DCS assets are provided within the free core of DCS, but there are some that were released together with the South Atlantic Map ... interestingly these are all free to use, even if you don't own the map nor have it installed, I don't know any other Map that includes assets.

Other assets available were added together with a Module, like the Chinese assets provided by Deka with the J-11 or the JF-17 ... they are also free to use. Other assets are payware, like the ones that came with the Supercarrier or the WW2 assets pack.

Lately, DCS has adopted some assets that were developed by end-users, like the ones made by Current Hill and the ones by Massun92.

I find above replies confusing so I'll answer this simply for you: You can use any AI unit on any map you want.

^ It might confuse OP even more, however, because that's not what he asked about  (even though it's a very useful info in itself).

To answer the main question, no, by default purchased maps don't come with any dedicated AI assets. Assets as products are their own separete thing, sometimes released in a form of payware packs (like existing WWII one, or upcoming Cold War one), sometimes they're added for free. They can be released / added at the same time as a new map (South Atlantic example mentioned above), but that's not always the case.

Thanks for the replies, so apart from dedicated paid asset packs like the WWII one I have, everything is there in AI form.

I have been holding off purchasing more maps due to a lack of WWII campaigns. I then discovered https://dcs-briefingroom.azurewebsites.net/ which looks like a handy tool to help get going.

So pressed the button on Kola, Senai and the Mosquito.

Indeed, I forgot about how it was worded originally. With that being said, I'm not optimistic about prospect of getting them for free and kind of take it for granted its going to be payware. I guess it will depend on what's going to be in the pack and how much money Ugra will make on Germany map sales up till phase 3. It's all not happening anytime soon anyway.
