How to know if realistic damage is activated?

i've been punching hundreds of .50cal holes in this "Zero" including multiple pilot shots, however there is 0 degradation of the enemy plane. Is this normal?

I uploaded a screenshot so you can see for yourself essentially every single part of the plane has been hit many times, but there's 0 difference in the behavior of the plane and pilot. Anyone know what's going on here?

No, that is not normal if you actually hit the aircraft. Remember, the visual damage is NOT representative of the locations or amount of damage you did. They are generic decals only.

A screenshot doesn't tell a lot. Best is a video and or a track, as they will show how much you actually hit the aircraft or missed it.

i thought there was an updated damage model for ww2 birds that had accurate damage representation?

That is correct, but not visually as far as I know.

ok so it's all internal. shoot i thought they updated the exterior damage too. so like if you get shot in the fuel tank it'll show a hole in the fuel tank and stream leaking fuel behind the plane until it runs out.

but you're saying actually the bullet hole could be anywhere in the plane not necessarily by the fuel tank?

If you get shot in the fuel tank, you will have a "physical" hole in it and leak fuel, but visually on the fuselage, you'll just have that generic damage decal like in the picture you posted above.

Hi,

we would need to see a track replay of the engagement and be able to check the mission settings.

If possible give us more information.

thank you

next time it happens i will.

while I have your attention, can you confirm if the new damage model includes accompanying visible damage to the model? for example if i shoot a plane in the wing, will bullet holes appear in the wing as well as puncture the fuel tank and cause a leak? or does the visual damage model not relate to what system's actually hit? from reading the comments in this thread it seems the latter.

The aircraft is divided into segments, some can be seen in the screenshot you provided. If you hit the wing at the wing tip, as an example, the outter part of the wing gets damage decals. But if you shoot at the wing, you won't puncture the fuel tank as there is none (in case of the 190). But if there would be a fuel tank, you would of course puncture it and see fuel leaking out.

The visual damage model does not however show you every single bullet hole in the aircrafts skin. On the outside on the skin, you only have generic damage decals for certain sections of an aircraft.

Understand that the graphical representation doesn't necessarily match the internal damage. We have the beginnings of 1:1 holes on the Mosquito, but even that is somewhat primitive at this time. So you cannot always determine damage by the number of holes in your aircraft.

As well, if this was AI, AI could act slightly differently to damage, either by staying in the plane too long or next time bailing out early.

thanks for providing some clarity into the current visual damage model
