The servers were down all weekend long. No honest customer was able to play Assassins Creed 2 and Silent Hunter 5. I'm really looking forward to UBI's excuse for this total debacle.

well i dont use ubi servers. recommend playing via peer to peer software called tunngle via lan mode.

safe and smooth gameplay.

tunngle software here

http://www.tunngle.net/en/

once installed load up, and browse for sh4 room. many sh5 games run from this location.

until a sh5 room is created.

That has nothing to do with UBI-Online or playing multiplayer. ;)

Unless you own a cracked version of SH5 you need to be online while playing and the game will repeatedly contact the UBI authorization-server. But that server was down most of the weekend, so honest customers, who play AS2 and SH5 without the crack, could not start the game at all.

It has something to do with UBI, but not with UBI-MP-Service ;)

are you posting at subsim diveplane ?

edit: ignore, i see you know..

it would be nice if your mod could be presented for use in JSGME. a generic mod enabler. fantastic little program. http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/products-jsgme.html

remove SH5 folder and it has the correct folder format to work. name of mod/data/ etc etc

up on subsim mods as well. yes this is a alternative download. no i dont use the editor.

thx for the link , maybe check it later.

enjoy the mods.

its not really an editor as such. if you package your mods with same folder structure as your game, the program will be able to swap the overwritten (modded files) back and forth, considering patches are inevitable this will allow you to revert back to vanilla state. theres a file checker too which will tell you what files have been changed from the original. ive made your lighting mod into a suitable useable file for the JSGME program.

the program records the folder content from "data" down through the folder hierarchy. in the case of your excellent mod, its "Capthelms Lighting Effects mod for sh5" / data / Cfg / lights.cfg <- your modded file. and it works in JSGME. :)

Yep. Looking forward for their new excuse. Apparently it's the bad hackers attacking their systems. Yeah, sure.

The DRM was my main reason for not picking up this title. I was very curious as my naval curiosity feels it could be massaged bit, but my sim time is scarce these days and I can't be bothered to play on someone else schedule (in this case Ubi servers). I hope they resolve this issue for you guys quick. I'm looking forward to more of diveplanes screenies and vids.

I really hope the backlash hits these guys where it hurts because IMHO it's a terrible step to take pc gaming.

If it wasnt for skidrow and them other hacker idiots, you would be loving this game big style. The only thing that bugs me about ubisoft is there honestly in the matter. And the fact that pirates seem to be getting more and more powerfull by the day, by the release of the next hacked piece of software.

how can you blame ubisoft for getting attacked ? if that attack had infact not happened. 100% of people who paid for SH5 would be sitting playing this game fine.

to say you hope the backlash hits them where it hurts is basicly saying im on the side of the pirateers. is that really your POV ?

Ubisoft deserve a tiny bit of admiration for attemtping something in a big way. the only people at fault here are the pirates. "ARGHH"

i dont want to have to play console games for the rest of my gaming life. but this is how it will have to continue. Ubisoft need the publics support to get through this or its bye bye silent hunter series on the pc.

better get your SH5 while you can, because theres every eventuality they wont release another. ever.

If it really was for the bad, bad hackers. Of course it IS possible, but if a multinational software with years of experience in hosting websites, online-accounts, webshops and forums is that simply disabled and then the bosses turn out to have no idea why there is nobody to work on the servers right away, you really wonder if it's really just hackers or something else that went wrong.

Doesn't mean I regret buying the game, but compared to how easily this protection could be disabled, they'd better spend the money for the code and defective servers to increase the dev-staff and finish the product.

Backlash as in people who refuse to purchase the game because of the DRM. I am in no way supporting piracy or do I condone "hacklash" because that just affects the honest players who bought the game.

My problem lies in the DRM as a method of trying to control piracy. Most casual gamers know this won't stop it, so another less intrusive (to the purchaser) methods should have been addressed.

Software is no the only thing being affected by piracy. Music, movies, clothing everything has a black market equivalent.

I don't know if I fully trust Ubisoft's excuse on the matter. Perhaps it is the hackers, perhaps it their own fault. They're not going to admit they're wrong...no company can do that.

Blame the pirates is an easy out. Hackers also creat mods that make games a thousand times better ...easy to forget that isn't it.

Blaming the hackers is like people blaming heavy metal for a shooting spree in a school. It's a simple "answer" for a very complicated problem.

Fff, you all owe your internet existance to the doings of hackers.

...what you are talking about is "crackers", "pirates" and "cracked" software. Totally different thing.
