Quirkitized Posted April 9, 2005 Author Posted April 9, 2005 Well, the past 6 times I joined a server/created one, I was able to play without a problem. I hope it doesnt need me to activate again, hell if I reinstall i'll end up using another. Oh well, what can you do.
355th_Xantris Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Grrrrr I hate myself.;) Just bought 1.1 despite the activationproblems. Just couldn't wait anymore. Have trust in ED sorting it all out.
355th_Paulie Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Guys, ED has proven to be one of the very few customer friendly software issuers, it is weekend, even in Moscow, I'd be highly surprised if they wouldnt come up with a solution for this as they are a starting company and wouldnt want to loose there customers...... :D
44th_MAC_Hawk Posted April 10, 2005 Posted April 10, 2005 Well new trouble ahead .... Since i installed FC and the damn Starforce my system seems to fall apart a little more everytime i do a reboot . Whenever the system gets powered up i´m greeted by Checkdisk going over all my hdds. Never had this problem before ..... :( . I tried to deinstall Lomac + FC ( including a regedit run to make sure it´s really clean ) and reinstall Lomac + FC - Well actually one positive thing happend : Checkdisk is only looking for disk d and e , and not for the system partition anymore ..... ( btw. no failures were found .... ) And to bring it to the top it will cost me another activation key ..... I hope that ED gets this BS fixed and fast !! At the moment i have paid 30 € for nothing ..... cause FC = nothing if it causes so much trouble .... Cya Hawk p.s. if anyone has a good idea how to get rid of the damned activation- and chkdsk problem plz let me know !!
Trident Posted April 10, 2005 Posted April 10, 2005 This doesn't sound good. And there I was thinking ED had the copy-protection figured out :( I'll wait a bit before eventually purchasing FC, by then these activation issues will hopefully be rectified. I'd also like to hear some confirmation that you don't need to re-purchase a license after those 5 activations, recent news has been contradictory in this regard.
Guest ruggbutt Posted April 10, 2005 Posted April 10, 2005 I'd also like to hear some confirmation that you don't need to re-purchase a license after those 5 activations, recent news has been contradictory in this regard. You're listening to the wrong people then. There have been two instances regarding SF. One guy contacted them in IRC and got a new key and two activations, no questions asked. The other wrote to ED and was told that they'd rectify the situation. Where did you hear that you had to buy another license? Bard? If so remember that he's not very credible.
Ice Posted April 10, 2005 Posted April 10, 2005 Could someone tell me why if you uninstall the game, reinstall the game it asks for an activation at all? My understanding was that you had to change hardware ( at least 40% modification) for it to request another of the 4 remaining activations!?!?
Guest ruggbutt Posted April 10, 2005 Posted April 10, 2005 I'm gonna hazard a guess that Starforce doesn't have their act together. I'm also gonna guess that they misrepresented their product and ED had no idea this would occur. What I'm pretty confident about is that ED will rectify the situation even if they gotta give us a dozen activations.
Dmut Posted April 10, 2005 Posted April 10, 2005 Hello jents. Here is my unconfirmed IMHO: The problem with reactivation is following: looks like SF (or Lockon itself) store current activation info in LockOn's registry path. This keys are getting deleted at LockOn uninstall, that's why SF asking for activation again. Yes, it is a problem, which betatesters (including myself) are missed to check, and I really hope ED is going to somehow fix it. That's why I suggesting always save your machine codes and activation codes (in corresponding pairs, of course), and LockOn's registry folder. Also, if you need to reinstall Flaming Cliffs, then don't delete or uninstall previous copy, just install fresh one over old one to the same folder. "There are five dangerous faults which may affect a general: recklessness, which leads to destruction; cowardice, which leads to capture; a hasty temper, which can be provoked by insults; a delicacy of honor which is sensitive to shame; over-solicitude for his men, which exposes him to worry and trouble." I understand the situtation and Im not pissed off anymore, ofcourse im sure you can all understand why I was when it first happened. However, I never even re-installed, changed hardware, nothing. I wont blame ED, SF needs to re-work this. Atleast we are *beta* testing it for them so 1.2 wont be like this....or maybe they'll avoid sf all together.... We really shouldnt need to go through all this just to play a game. People spend $100's on joysticks and $1,000's on hardware for this game, I dont see why any of them wouldnt pay $35 for it.

He may be biased, but I don't think he's dumb ;) I have a feeling that we are looking at a misunderstanding on someone's part here, but I'd like to know for sure. I'll buy FC in the near future, no worries there :)
