Boulund Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 (edited) I liked the event as well! Great idea. I'm unfortunately a bit stomped by the fact that Race Control decided I didn't come to a full stop, which I most definitely did in my track file... Ah well, never mind - no hard feelings. Just curious(?). Also I find it strange that my name is listed as fredrik.boulund and not as my nick "Boulund" that I signed up with... Great thanks to the organizers and everyone that participated! A shame it can't be done in real time though =/ ;) (it was a bit lonely flying there for a while) Looking forward to my Certificate of participation now =D Edited January 27, 2010 by Boulund Core i5-760 @ 3.6Ghz, 4GB DDR3, Geforce GTX470, Samsung SATA HDD, Dell UH2311H 1920x1080, Saitek X52 Pro., FreeTrack homemade cap w/ LifeCam VX-1000, Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1. Balu Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 For clarification, the race should have been between Khersones and Kerch. Some pilots have made a T&G in Kerch and went back to Khersones. That wasn´t requested.
Sanch0 Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Thanks for great race. Congrats to all participants and particulary for 51st PVO Regiment. 1 PVAF "A fighter without a gun... is like an airplane without a wing" dedicated to F-4 Phantom
JaBoG32_Prinzartus Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 I wonder why a F-15 was the overall winner and the fastet Mig was even slower than the fastest SU-27. X-man Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 I wonder why a F-15 was the overall winner and the fastet Mig was even slower than the fastest SU-27. Good for me that I did not had the chance to bet on the outcome. It's all about the fuel/burn. The F-15 has by far the best of the three. I did a test, flying at 2000m and full AB. - MiG-29S (3 tanks) reached 200km - Su-27 clean reached 230km - F-15C (3 tanks) reached 330km So the F-15 can use burners a lot more then the others. And according to this, Su-27 slightly more then the MiG, which is reflected on the results... :) 64th Aggressor Squadron Discord: 64th Aggressor Squadron TS: 135.181.115.54

I hope the community can enjoy more of these "Not standard LO combat" challenges :D Cheers to all! :) I can only add to that! Without the shared knowledge of my teammates we could never have done so good... This race was about smart flying, not necessarily the fastest flying, and thats where that shared knowledge really played a part! Big thanx to the organizers of the event! Brit_Radar_Dude Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Would love to have confirmed what the race details were exactly. Which airbase was the takeoff - Khersones? Which was the destination - touch and go at Rasdolnoye? Which airbase was the finish - Kerch? Timing done from start of takeoff on runway or engine start in parking? Timing done to a complete stop at finishing airbase on the runway? Pilots choice for fuel load/extra tanks or preset by the race organisers? I'd like to know the details so I can have a go myself in each aircraft to see how my (doubtless rubbish) time matches up against the winners. Also curious about tactics. Better to stay low or climb high? Land fast or as per normal? Flaps and gear as late as possible or as per a normal landing? The more I think about it all, the more questions I'm generating..... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Sorry Death, you lose! It was Professor Plum....

My tactic in the 15 was to climb in AB at 10 degrees til i got half way on each leg. Then descend at 10 degrees at full mil power. The fuel just aint enough to be in burners all the way. At each airbase I excecuted insane high-g turns to loose speed. I suggest you check the track(s) to see what I mean... golfsierra2 Posted January 28, 2010 Author Posted January 28, 2010 (edited) Would love to have confirmed what the race details were exactly. So, you missed the whole thing ? Man, where have you been the last 4 months ? :music_whistling: The race was from KHERSONES (take off) to KERCH (landing) with a touch & go required at each airbase in between KHERSONES and KERCH along a given routing (waypoints). Gears had to be up during flight, so the pilots had to slow down below 480 km/h before each t&g iot lower the landing gears. Take off / landing and approach directions for t&g were free to choose, also the fuel configuration (internal and external). T&g was considered valid, if the main landing gear touched the runway (not taxiway !), clearly to be heared. Flight speed and altitudes were free to choose, also. Time measurement was taken start: from the first visible forward movement of the aircraft on the KHERSONES runway stop: until the aircraft visibly comes to a full stop at KERCH runway. Time measurements in seconds then were rounded (.49 to 0 and .50 to 1) and subtracted: Time at landing minus time at take off = total flight time. Total flight time then was still in seconds and converted to min and sec. Time was taken with the internal clock of LO (CTRL+ Backspace). Boulund Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 I'd love a tiny review of the Saitek Pro Flight Headset from the winner of them! ;) Thanks again to the organizers:thumbup:. Obviously I acted without reading through the requirements and thus only did a t&g at Kerch and then headed back to Khersones just like in the qualification. Core i5-760 @ 3.6Ghz, 4GB DDR3, Geforce GTX470, Samsung SATA HDD, Dell UH2311H 1920x1080, Saitek X52 Pro., FreeTrack homemade cap w/ LifeCam VX-1000, Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1. Case Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Congratulations guys! Good to see all your hard work in finding the most efficient flight plan paying off! 1 There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
golfsierra2 Posted January 28, 2010 Author Posted January 28, 2010 I'm unfortunately a bit stomped by the fact that Race Control decided I didn't come to a full stop, which I most definitely did in my track file... Ah well, never mind - no hard feelings. Just curious(?). Also I find it strange that my name is listed as fredrik.boulund and not as my nick "Boulund" that I signed up with... Hi Boulund, I corrected your call sign. As Balu already mentioned, a landing with the aircraft coming to a full stop was required for the air base KERCH. Re-read the ReadMe file that you received with the mission file, it's all explained there. kind regards, Raven.... [sigpic]http://www.crc-mindreader.de/CRT/images/Birds2011.gif[/sigpic]
golfsierra2 Posted January 28, 2010 Author Posted January 28, 2010 (edited) About tactics: We already saw amazing things during the qualification with pilots taking off with very low fuel, and even got rid of chaff / flare to loose weight. Finally, some guys even used the recoil effect of the cannon to slow down the aircraft during the approach phase. TCR 2010 was a race, that required flying skills and smart fuel management. Flame out 10 km before KERCH was a good option, then the fuel consumption had been managed well during the entire flight ! We saw amazing things, crazy manouvers to slow down the aircraft before t&g like 9 g turns and even rolls... It really was fun watching all the different concepts with different ways of afterburner use, extreme low level and even high altitude cruising between the air bases. I hope that the race gave some good insight into high speed, low level aircraft handling and fuel management, which might be useful in simulated combat missions. BTW: The qualification phase only was added to the race in order to limit the number of final race participants to 90 pilots in total. We knew that the race tracks would be about 25 to 30 min each, so we tried to enable us to handle the race evaluation in a timely manner. We had no clue, how much pilots actually would sign up for the race and expected a number of several hundred pilots, taking into account the number of online squadrons and members at this forum. Well, if we have had an idea, that only 44 would sign up for the quali, we could have omitted that qualification and go for the race at once. But you only know afterwards, as usual... Brit_Radar_Dude Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Well, if we have had an idea, that only 44 would sign up for the quali, we could have omitted that qualification and go for the race at once. You have to be careful. A few years ago I had a party at my house, invited about 60 people but only 30 turned up on the night and the atmosphere was a bit lame. So the next year I invited 120, figuring 60 would turn up for the perfect party critical mass. All 120 turned up and some brought friends. The house was so crowded it took 20 minutes to push past folks just to get to the kitchen to get another drink and the queue for the toilet was all the way down the stairs all night.
