I'm curious, how many people just want to be fooled by someone.

There are two sorts of people in the world. Ones who deceive and ones who get deceived.

Who you are? You choose.

The only thing that is remotly scientificly possible is getting hit by a solar storm, and a big one at that. 2012 is the high point of the sun's sun spot cycle. Last time we where hit was back in the 1800's. Only thing that happened was people as far south as Rome could see aroura's in the sky. In this day it's out tech stuff that can get damaged. If we where hit now it would wipe out a good chunk of the power grid and other heavy electronics could get damaged as well. Also any satilite in the blast would get fried, regardless if powered up or not. Our only deffence to this is the earth magnetic field, and that is getting weeker. There is a "hole" off the coast of South America in the Atlantic. High alt aircraft actually fly around it to avoid damage by solar radiation. It is believed that this is caused by the poles starting to flip. North becomes south, south becomes north magnetically. But this takes a few hundred years to happen and the Earth has been going it since it formed.

My guess, nothing will actually happen. If we do get nailed by a solar storm, some bad things will happen but it will not be the end of life as we know it, for the most part. But, for some people, they will be revisiting life like it was 150 years ago. It would take a long time to repair massive damage to the electrical infrustructure and satalite systems. This is a pretty extreme long shot though. But it's the only sceintific evidence of anything possibly happening in 2012.

I'm more nervous about astroid 2004 MN4. It's slated to pass in critical range of Earth in 2029. Close enough to be seen with the naked eye. It's 320meeters in size, big enough to level an area the size of Texes, or wipe out every coastling of any ocean it lands in. Now, it's not 2029 that is the year to worry about. It's when it makes it's next pass in 2035. Data is not certian, but what we do know is that passing so close in 2029 will shift the trajectory of the astroid. How much is unclear untill after it passes. But with severl modles run, a few have predicted impact with Earth in 2035. We just do knot know for sure. The near miss could through it fare away instead.

I remember something about a religious "chock". It was something with to constellation will make a cross on the sky, and... well, you know, religious bullshit and all that...

Don't worry about asteroids, by 2012 the earth will have vanished due to the experiments involving the LHC. It can't hit us if were not there any more. That or we all get abducted by aliens.

For christs sake (duh, i have to stop from using that phrase), if you have to worry, do about some impending doom that humanity actually can do something about, like global warming. That asteroids gonna hit us (or not), whether we like it one way or the other.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

Last time we were hit by a really really big one, maybe (but how exact are we in deciding that?), but we've had massive storms during both the 80's and 90's, and during the early 70's the astronauts were really lucky bastards since they went up right between two big ones.

I do agree with your conclusions though.

And the funny thing with this Mayan calendar thing is... just like ours, it start over after the end! :D

2012 ? Totally BS ( and I don't mean Black Shark here).

Where are the gullible people that claimed that on 1th January 2000 the world would go out of existence ?

At a random point in time, men decided to count years, starting with year number one. This numbering is totally independent of any phenomenon created by mother nature.

kind regards,

Raven....

I do believe its pretty much BS. But if it wipes out an electrical grid (Solar storm) then how the hell am i gunna play DCS ;P haha so yeah w.e that would suck though, no electricity. To me the mayans mean crap lol and that meteor or w.e thats like 900 feet wide or w.e we'll nuke it out of the sky. Let's just hope Canada and the United States of America don't get hit by that thing or the solar storm directly haha.

Either one would be fine!

Global Warming term does not mean the whole planet will heat up... the climate changes you can see are result of changes in water currents in oceans caused by melting of the ice caps... so as those currents change so does the climate for the region.. also most extreme weather patterns happen in that transition phase... so this whole Global Warming is actually taking place... but also universe and everything in it is always changing so having changes in weather pattern on Earth is again normal... problem for us (Earth habitans) is when this change starts and happening very quick and people do not realise we do effect the planet a lot same as everything else

The currents have stopped before. That's what caused the last ice age that ended about 10,000 years ago. The planet warms, the poles melt, fresh water filling the oceans messes up the deep see currents, this stops the flow of warm water to the north, this causes colling and another ice age. We have been through many cycles like this. At more than one point in the very early life of the planet it was totally covered in ice. Do a search for "snowball earth" and read all about it. This is part of what allowed life to evolve. Each "snowball" earth caused a huge boost in breathable oxygen. With this game the ability for primitive life to get more complex. I think the official count is 3 or 4 snowballs. I think. After that, it was to hot to happen again and all we get is ice ages when conditions where correct for it. We are in a turning point geologically for earth. We are starting a pole reversal, possibly the early stages of what will become the next ice age, we are nearing the due date for the next super eruption from the super volcano under Yellowstone Park. And also Mt Vesuvius is past due for it's next eruption. Interesting stuff to read about. Kinda scary too at time.

im scared as hell about that volcano... 1. I live in Alberta, Canada. I watched a documentary on that thing and i think it said that it's gunna probably erupt and take out part of my province so yea lol. The whole ice theory freaks me out to hahaha

It's not looking good for where I live in Minnesota. We are in direct path of the main ash fallout. Accordign to what I've seen on the subject, they expect my neck of the woods will have around 3-5 feet of ash when it's all said and done.
