Your joking if you think FO is gunna take 4-5 years, what source do you have for you to believe that? They would have released a demo early this year if they hadn't have run into the legal problem end of last year with that publisher.

Say you are correct, and that FO will be released in 4-5 years, the graphics will be way BETTER than those renders my friend. Those are models that will be used in the game.

Prove me wrong. There is a big difference between a techdemo and a real demo, but it seems you have the facts already laid out in front of you.

BTW, i stated that it could be very well possible the renders will look worse than the actual engine renders by release.

From what I know, Fighter Ops will not have Russian airplanes? And will not have helicopters either?

While it is fun to shoot at the AI, there is nothing better then a real person on the other side of a globe flying different kind of an airplane against you!

Also, dynimaic campaing (http://www.lockoncampaign.com) is comming along. We might see something very close to a dynamic campaign generator for Flaming Cliffs in the near future.

With current level of realism, variety of aircraft to fly, possible dynamic campaign generator and add ons in the future, it will be tough to beat ED!

So, at this time, I vote for ED and Flanker series.

From what I understand they eventually will have Russian aircraft and helicopters. Right now they're concentrating on the initial release.

FO will have the A10, F15 and F16. All three planes will have a 'falcon 4' level of avionics detail. After those planes, we'll probably see the F14 and F/A18. The team apparently has stated that they will "accept" planes done by 3rd party developers if their done to the level they are looking for. Personally i prefer a small amount of planes done well and properly, rather than numerious planes that are just hacks.

Allochtoon, i cant prove you wrong. I can only assume with some sort of common sense that a game that will be released according to you in 5 years time will have photo realistic graphics (or very close to). And if it's released when i think it will be (18months time) FO will have the graphics level of those renders. It really won't be hard for the FO team to have 80k-100k poly planes with very high resolution textures. Lomac has 50k poly planes and it was released like 18months ago. Even though this is all speculation, it's just common sense. The XSI are a group of proffesionals, expect big things.

Also, most people might not know this but ThunderWorks have some in game video footage of Jet Thunder on their website for download.

i didnt think this thread was about which sim is better and why.

i thought it was merely about what is on the horizon and what can we look forward to.

all i meant to do was point out that there was more than one company to keep our eye on for future products.

what will actually become of the future is something none of us can speculate over, but another big "lets wait and see...."

the winners are definately us... the flight sim fanatics with Lomacs predessor, Fighter Ops and Jet Thunder all in the works!

Good graphics arent made with 80K or 100K poly planes. Sure it contributes to the level of detail. Even 50K is too much, at least for me, but at least we get a photorealistic plane. Even so, and although I never tried 1.1 , i can assume that, with a wing of 4 Su-25T, each using 2048x2048 skins, the game will be unplayable for some. But since we pilot in the cockpit we dont visualize those planes, thus the FPS are not very affected, and thanks to the 4 level LODs, we can grab some more FPS.

Good graphics arent made only by high resolution textures and high polygon objects. Good graphics are those who have good special effects and high technology. I can give you some examples: pixel shaders , vertex shaders, bump maping, ultra shadow (not very important for flight sims though) and other recent DirectX features.

This are good graphics. And by the time that the successor of Lock On comes out, it will surely have the latest DirectX9 technology.

Poly count and texture resolution is the "core" of graphic design. IMHO the most important aspect of making something look good is dynamic lighting effects.

SUBS17, why ?

Do you mean separate left and right throttle? it is in game since 1.0.

Does lockon support really support a twin throttle? I never new it did, I guess I'll have to buy one to find out. I meant something like the Suncom twin throttle. Actually, I'll try it with 2 joysticks.

Man that is absolutely awesome, I never noticed that you could do that. Now I'll have to get a twin throttle Hotas. SWEET, either that or I'll make one :D

This thread is perfect proof that we are our own worst enemies in the flight sim hobby.

I hope that Thunderworks and Fighter Ops put out great sims and look forward to flying them. I hope TK makes Project 2, etc.

Why must people flame others for trying to bring more to our hobby?

What is the point of adjusting the thrust of each engine seperately :)

Because in real life they all have them.
