DCS Frogfoot

The Frogfoot is a deadly weapon and great competitor to the A-10; well why not DCS Frogfoot after DCS A:10C?!?

Officially cos nobody has ordered a trainer yet. But it would be really cool to have Frog in game...

 

However hope it won't be A version - it is really II+ world war plane. I would like to have TM, becouse it is the closest and the easiest plane to make. ED has great 3D model, part of avionic... only make a Kopyjo, Kh-31...

Actually I'd rather have the A version. The TM looks like crap with the "hump" behind the cockpit. Besides, with the A-10C, we already have an advanced CAS aircraft. I'd rather have a low tech aircraft and have to learn to survive with the equipment you have.

TM is CAS and SEAD plane. Kh-31 forces you to respect it as adversary ;]

 

A is almost useless plane today. It can do rather nothing except drop dumb bomb and fire rocket pod :D

Frogfoot, as well as A-10 are platforms from the past. Low and slow flying nowadays is all but too dangerous. I certainly would love to have AFM Frogfoot in DCS, however, the mission would have to be designed without stingers or strelas.

 

In Afghanistan, soviet pilots flew so low that they visual acquired targets in the first pass and then made turn to kill it. That was until stinger arrived. Nowadays, flying low is only possible against opponent that does not have shoulder launched SAM's.

If you adhere to rules CAS missions can be relatively uneventful (e.g. Maintain a hard deck, have your wing man watch your run to spot missile trails, etc). Most of the flightmodel work is done on the Frogfoot so I just assumed DCS Frogfoot would be a natural progression.

Actualy you can have the Su-27T model on FC/DCS as soon as FC2.0 is released. You can fly the frog VS the KA-50, and while it is not pit clickable everything else is pretty decent modeled including the FM. It will also have the DCS Vikhr

Who in their right minds would want a frogfoot?! We need something with decent A-A capability, like a F-15C (or E!) or an F-16, so we can finally provide anti-air coverage without having to play a survey sim to do it....

I'd love flying the Su-25A. There is something nostalgic about it when you compare it to the A-10 and Su-25T. In LockOn I feel its the only aircraft that it feels like you are flying. You don't have a hud, you have to keep looking at the gauges, you have no advanced avionics display information. Its just gauges and what you can see. Its all pilot skill, you lack all of the extra features of the other aircraft.

 

Its quite astonishing how different it is to fire a Kh-25ML at a target between the 25A and 25T. You get much more satisfaction and joy out of hitting the target with the 25A.

We do need some serious A2A, but hey, you already have Jane's series and Falcon for American planes, let the East have some fun too :D

 

EDIT: 'Bout the Su-25, you already have a pretty decent one right now, so you can entertain yourselves with it for quite a while until the DCS module arrives. When it comes to fighters, things are a tad different...

But this is my rationale for DCS Frogfoot:

 

 

1. Most of the FM work is already done (that's evident in the awesome AFM that we already have).
   
2. It does not have any complex avionics systems so I do not believe that ED will have a hard time modeling it in great detail.
   
3. People have been griping about the turn around time between modules; this in theory should have a quick turn around time.

Makes sense, but the time it takes to bring the current Su-25 to DCS level (plus the time it takes to solve any possible issues with the Defense Ministry), implement generic features planned for the next module (independant of what it is), test, debug and etc. and finally the time it takes publishing would make the time about the same as any other module, maybe a little bit shorter.

 

IIRC, all planned planes are getting some touches here and there to have something to start with when their turn comes, so probably the Su-25's advantage is even smaller.

 

All in all, if we ignore the need for military interest, this can be decided by democracy.
