Oh, I am quite aware. For that matter, I don't really like the F/A-18, either, and would much rather see the F-16, F-15 (C or E), or even the F-111 before the F/A-18. However, that doesn't mean I'm unwilling to give it (or the F-14) a fair and unbiased (well, as unbiased as I'm capable of) treatment.

DCS: Starfury please!

Pretty please?

It looks so freakin' mean. And it's probably the only space fighter design that NASA has actually considered producing in the future (as a space forklift, boringly). You wouldn't need to model terrain at all, just some ships/jumpgates/planets/etc. Inclusion of the Thunderbolt/Stealth/Heavy Starfury too please.

They are faster then Vipers and more realistic then X-Wings and more powerful then A-10. Win win win!

This seems like a troll/joke thread, but you'd be surprised how serious I am.

Because the F-15E can still function by allowing the players to hot-swap - this is how Janes did it in 1998 and it worked like a peach. It's unfeasible to swap seats back and forth in an F-14, especially given its primary air/air role.

Hmm, don't remember how it worked in the Jane's F-15E, but in Strike Eagle III (not that they are in the same category, though) it worked well because the back seat was practically useless since it offered no extra functionality (except one extra display so you would just use it to make a quick glance at some other MFD pages).

But, since the F-14 back seat worked quite well in the F-14 Fleet Defender, I disagree that it's unfeasible. It's not a problem for intercept engagements to switch to the back seat while in autopilot mode. For WVR engagements, you could switch the radar to the boresight mode from the front seat and you didn't need much more for WVR engagements anyway. Additionally, making some basic RIO AI to lock the targets based on your preference would not be that big of a deal, either.

That certainly makes new aircraft come out faster, but also makes it harder to ensure proper quality of the product. The future success of the DCS brand depends strongly on creating a strong brand name. People must associate "DCS: X" with the thought "true-to-life sim of plane X", and I'm not sure how many 3rd parties can fulfill that.

Well, we're not talking about an FSX model here. They'd choose the team and would supervise the project. The way things seem to be heading now, I'll be 50 (if I'm lucky) by the time the planes from LockOn are covered and I really hope we'll have some other theater as an option by then (no, Nevada doesn't count) :)

It really comes down to simplicity. You can control most of the systems entirely from the front seat but it's a HOTAS button-mashing nightmare. Something that can be done by pushing Reject Fwd on the appropriate hand controller may require holding Coolie Down on the throttle while pushing Castle Left on the stick for less than 1s but more than 0.3s.

Additionally the extra screen is convenient if you have a pilot in the front as you can have A/G radar, the pod, weapon video for AGM-65 / AGM-130 / GBU-15, and your SIT display up. In the front, you're probably always going to want your TEWS screen up so you're not getting shot at, your SIT display and / or the TSD moving map, and maybe your HSI? Basically, in order to FULLY do things from the front you have to give up some flexible functionality, but that's why there's supposed to be a backseater.

I'm not saying it's totally practical, but the capability to single-seat it is there.

That's what she said.

Anyways i not think the next aircraft will be a dualseat, i think its why ED have choosing the KA-50, the only single seat combat helicopter in the world... Except the Little Nelly who are an autogyro :D

When i see the number of bug in multiplayer actually (so many lag, its impossible to try a formation flight without risk a imaginary collision or a lot of disconnection) i can't imagine what it will be with a dual seat aircraft...Same for the AI, today i have again have the proof that the AI are the baddest i have ever see, i can't imagine a AI wingman...

i hope that not will be an F-16, we have a lot of sim for this aircraft and its maybe a nice aircraft but with nothing special compare to the F-18 with carrier OPS, high alpha and a lot of things who make it a really special aircraft and the F-15 who have incredible performance and power, i hope if that will be an Eagle that it NOT will be the C or the D cause only Air to Air mission will be boring after an aircraft who can only do Air to Ground, multirôle first and Air Air after...And finally i want see the F-15E but maybe too recent and two seat problem again...Same for F-14 who are nice but too old and two seat...

F/A-18E are nice but the C have better maneuverability.

Best choice -> F/A-18C Hornet with realistic and TOTALLY improved carrier OPS and with ground crew (i can't imagine how we can place the aircraft on the catapult without crew without kill every aspect of the simulation by using external view)... with high alpha and of course vapor on wings at high speed and vapor on the fuselage on high alpha like real with flexible wing effect !!!

And please ED don't use plastic color this time please !!! take cockpit texture from photography....

re:

Absolutely kickass video... the choice of soundtrack and the editing work is positively top-drawer.

Great video, still hate the F/A 18. If the F14 was still heavily used in the HD era we could have had some great hero films created for it. I always thought the F14 had so little A/A engagements because no one wanted to get close to it because of the propaganda the US military "leaked" about the patriot missile effectiveness. That and the fact that we flooded the airways with Top Gun. No one wanted to get near an F14. Stop calling my favorite plane a turkey. Its a TOMCAT and will devour your roosters or hens or rhinos or anything else. Well maybe a raptor could take down the cat. :pilotfly:

I joke.

I had not even taken in the fact that most of the fore-mentioned aircraft are two seaters.... It completely escaped my mind. I was too busy thinking about the possibilities of having the Eyepiece as do Actual apache pilots.

None of your business. :)

O my god. You guys make me go crazy in anticipation. There must be something more going on. I am getting annoyed in a good way waiting for this. If thats actually possible.

Go in close, and when you think you are too close, go in closer.
