Pilotasso Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 OK guys, remember when we battled over with swap file those long gone days when Lockon 1.0 was released? Well its back. Although FC2 runs smoothly after 1 hour of game play windows warns me my system is running low on resources. Switched on my task manager and voilá, a 2.6GB swap file was present and growing by the second. What I don't understand is that I still have available RAM but its not getting used (see my sig for specs). Any ideas guys? Cheers. :) .
Panzertard Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 (edited) Using more ram than DCS? You didnt leave us much to go on :) I've not seen the ram / swap go through the roof yet. So whats your system config? EDIT: DUH, I could have looket at your signature :P Still - can you reproduce it every time? Is it in one special mission? Is it at one special server? Or location on the map? Or when you reun certain mods side by side FC2? Fraps? TS? TSO? Leavu? TacView? Nuclear physics armageddon programs? Boberro Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 I noticed this also... at least in BS where I have example 400 MB of free RAM and BS had taken only about 100. Then you can see many suttering, textures loading, pauses in game, but RAM is still un-touched. Need to restart game and it is better then.... up to some time again ;] Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
Pilotasso Posted April 4, 2010 Author Posted April 4, 2010 I run FC2 with just the new Su-27, F-15 and A-10 models, everything else is clean. .
ED Team Groove Posted April 4, 2010 ED Team Posted April 4, 2010 Sounds a little bit like a possible memory leak. Our Forum Rules: http://forums.eagle.ru/rules.php#en
ZaltysZ Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 DCS (FC2 too) is large address aware and can use up to 4GB of RAM (on x64 Windows). I have 6GB of RAM and swap is disabled. No need for it, because I don't run anything, what can consume those 6GB. Windows has nasty habit to swap memory even if there is no need, so disabling swap gets rid of that blinking HDD light and irritating slow downs. Wir sehen uns in Walhalla.
joey45 Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 ^^ how is ti disabled?? The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. ZaltysZ Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 ^^ how is ti disabled?? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Change-the-size-of-virtual-memory Just set "No page file" for every drive, instead of specifying size. Wir sehen uns in Walhalla.
Mugenjin Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 Disabling pagefile is hit or miss. You may get problems with other programs, or you won't encounter any. But in any case you do not get any objectively noticeable performance increase. Placebo effect anyone? 1

ZaltysZ Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 Disabling pagefile is hit or miss. You may get problems with other programs, or you won't encounter any. Depends on system and software. If you have enough RAM you can happily disable pagefile. How much RAM you need? Depends on what you run. Ordinary 32bit application can use up to 2GB. large address aware 32bit application - up to 4GB. It is unlikely that you will run multiple memory hungry applications at the same time, so 2GB + max usable memory by hungriest application is good reference. DCS and FC2 can and will use up to 4GB of memory on 64bit system, so don't try to disable pagefile if you have only 4GB of RAM and x64 OS. Out of memory errors is very likely. :smilewink: Wir sehen uns in Walhalla.
DetroitDieseL Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 I have exactly 4 gb of RAM on vista64 and I've had no memory issues yet. I also have the GTX 295 with 2 gb of RAM, does this matter?? If you want peace, prepare for war.... America's Armor Dev Notes AARM on Facebook Help Fund AARM
Pilotasso Posted April 4, 2010 Author Posted April 4, 2010 Well this is strange, I deactivated swap file but it still pages to the disk... big time. FC2 barely breaches 1 GB of RAM, I have another just waiting to be allocated but it keeps stuffing the disk page up. .
Chops Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 I am suspecting a possible memory leak also. I designed a simple landing training mission in the editor. After flying the mission about 4 or 5 times I have noticed a significant decrease in frame rate, to the point it is like a slide-show.

Maximus Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 I do have noticed that issue. but most of time, it run just smooth sometimes I get a lower performance for no reason. to solve it is quitting the game completely and re-run and it run smooth. it is possible in that same situation that Pilotasso has experience on his pc. I will observe my swap files and memory closely. Maximus, The only real Maximus in DCS World. :music_whistling: I am not associated to viper 33 | Maximus. he is the imposter.
