104th_Crunch Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 You can also create a separate channel for each tower, where pilots have to switch to in order to talk to the controller. This way you simulate switching to different radio frequencies for different control areas. Thanks for all the great information and the great screenshots. Can you tell us please, is the ATC tool you are using available for download?

S77th-konkussion Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 (edited) I have to disagree.. no military aircraft would leave the earth w/ no radio, and no ATC. Unless the person is alone in the server- there's a need for ATC. I would definitely implement the taxiway takeoff trigger right away. The rest of it can be handled by ATC: Sitting on runway while refueling.. General operations- doing whatever the hell you please with no regard to other traffic.. Not long ago I was holding short- as I noted someone on final approach- some douchebag behind me pulled up and immediately started screaming on chat- GO MAN GO. Less than 5 seconds later-- whooooshh.. other guy lands.. People cut you off while landing, while taking off.. landing against ILS, block taxiways. Just a minor sample of annoying lonewolf behavior. If there is insufficient staffing for ATC hopefully there are additional kick triggers such as "sitting on runway for more than 90 seconds" for example. Yes- I know that some of these airports are big- and taxiing back to the live runway to takeoff can take a few minutes. Maybe the ATC can make these determinations. If no one is nearby- then ATC can send you directly to the closest entrance. If it's busy- well sorry. That's reality. Get your gas & payload and start taxiing back. Not claiming miracle here. But why not dive in and see what it fixes, and what it breaks? Determine what the advantages & limitations are. EtherealN Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Does TS have export? I'm seeing something like TS exports list of people on, Servman compares, and if individual X is on servman's own list but not on TS list for Y time servman kicks. :P One big drawback is that there may be exceptions that are "fair". In EVE Online one of my group's enemies had a general Ventrilo requirement, but with an exception for one guy who was actually deaf. Hard to automate to compensate, but hopefully it would be small enough a problem to handle when it occurs. I do agree about the annoyance of taxiway takeoffs though. The only case where I feel they should be fair is when ATC has reason to clear them. (I did do it once myself though, when I had my wing lead engaged defensive very close and wanted to try to save his life. :P ) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester

This demand would be silly. Then they would just loose out on getting good ATC info while others would have the benefit of making sure they don't smack into someone. If for example we did use it for ATC on the 104th server, we would use it strictly for ATC and not bandit positions, unless maybe for special announced days. Either way, for regular server day to day operations it would be difficult to have a regular ATC person on hand all the time.
S77th-konkussion Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 .... Either way, for regular server day to day operations it would be difficult to have a regular ATC person on hand all the time. Yep. That's a problem. I'm definitely liking the sound of the various trigger ideas as a stop-gap. Worth a trial IMO. Obviously the triggers that cannot be made to perform as intended- or produce detrimental result can be eliminated.. Toast Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 VATSIM is another group that performs virtual ATC for MSFS, X-Plane. Website vatsim.net They provide text and voice services. The Controller makes text macros. There is a radar client and an freeware program Squakbox or FSinn that the pilots use to set squawkcodes ect. I am busy with the Black Shark Academy, but after I get out I would love to run a tower. Toast Aviate, Navigate, Communicate. and When All Else Fails, Aviate More :pilotfly:
thaFunkster Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 (edited) Yeah, if I was in the squad I would probably volunteer for some Tower Time, sound kinda cool to me. --- That depends on the type of mission and / or server. For some missions you could announce that TS is mandatory for that mission on the website, along with server details. O: About everyone having to be on TS, well, that would not be such a big deal, there could just be one "Tower and Approach channel" or something on TS, people would just have to log into it for takeoff and landing, and would not have to be on TS for the rest of the flight. Those who failed to respond to Tower calls could be given one warning and then banned. Edited April 15, 2010 by thaFunkster Funk on YouTube!
Breakshot Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 One observation on the 104th server: Have you guys considered turning off server messages? To me the constant barrage of "kill", "no more", "took off", "landed", "joined", "wiped his butt" bla bla... really feels like some sort of CS arcade fest... :P Its really way overboard compared to FC1 even... mabe a way to filter and only show the important ones? Also it seems like im getting lots of stutters due to the constant, "pop up" of msgs just like in FC1... Tim "Breakshot" Mytrofanov | C.O. of 51 ПВО / 100 КИАП Regiments | twitch.tv/51breakshot

104th_Crunch Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 (edited) The problem is right now that we have no tacview, and just as bad, no debrief. So a player has no way of knowing what happened to them after they die. Flying around then getting killed stealthy by an IR missile and all of a sudden looking at your screen wondering what happened is no fun. It would be nice to remove the landing and takeoff messages and just have it down to kills/deaths. edit: : In all my experience the stutter is when someone loads in and their 3D object is drawn. It is not the actual message. Just that since both happen at the same time you think it's the message. Edited April 16, 2010 by Crunch
Joe Kurr Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 I'm working on a debrief viewer for multiplayer mission results. Here is a screenshot of an early test: One problem I still have is that some events are logged multiple times. During the flight shown in the screenshot above, there was a mid-air collision between pilot #1 and #2. Although the event lasted only a fraction of a second, it was logged 80 times in the debrief. If it's done, I'll check if it's possible to launch the viewer via lua after the mission ends or the player disconnects. Dutch Flanker Display Team | LLTM 2010 Tiger Spirit Award

104th_Crunch Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 Why? tacview is working with the BS files (just without names as I noticed) but many people do not have it installed because of the manual steps need to get it to work. Then there is the nasty fact that player names don't show in the tacviews. I'm working on a debrief viewer for multiplayer mission results. Here is a screenshot of an early test:... I imagine you have same issue of not showing player names?
