EinsteinEP Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 Well done, GA! I enjoyed the sound delay as well as the wobble - felt like I was in a second aircraft watching the 'Hog have all the fun. The dark environment was also great. I wish I had 0.01% of the talent you have. Looking forward to the final project! Shoot to Kill. Play to Have Fun.
Avilator Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 EPICNESS!!!!! I love it! Maybe tone down the wobble just a little. The delay with the missile sounds was perfect. Were the other sounds (engine, flares) from the movie Operation Red Flag? I only respond to that little mechanical voice that says "Terrain! Terrain! Pull Up! Pull Up!" ED Team Glowing_Amraam Posted May 23, 2010 Author ED Team Posted May 23, 2010 Thanks :) I don't know (or remember) *exactly* where the sounds are from.. The engine sounds are from various sound clips of A-10's etc.. and the flare sound was from some Documentary...and it featured A-10s popping flares and doing gunruns. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgJRhtnqA-67pKmQ3A2GsgA ED youtube channel https://www.facebook.com/glowingamraam My facebook page

zakobi Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 (edited) Personally i think the delay are too long. On the sound alone it would seem like the firing was further away. Otherwise good work. Edited May 23, 2010 by zakobi
Vekkinho Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Or are you talking about me making a movie without any music at all? Exactly...music only during intro and credits part of the video. Jet engine sounds, explosions, comms, effects and weather as if watching a real footage! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
ED Team Glowing_Amraam Posted May 23, 2010 Author ED Team Posted May 23, 2010 I can easily make such a movie, Vekkinho. Only problem is....it will not give the desired impact to the global audience, which is what im aiming for. :) And let's face it. 6 Minutes filled with loud noices, jet engines, explosions, etc, isn't really what i would call a promo movie. *Edit* - Yes maybe if including comms, radio chatter, and voices, it could work. But then it would have to be consistant. Like a "story" mode. Not just a barage of random clips cut together. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgJRhtnqA-67pKmQ3A2GsgA ED youtube channel https://www.facebook.com/glowingamraam My facebook page
thaFunkster Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 About the sound delay thing, im not 100% sure yet if i will have it like that throughout the movie, since it WILL have lots of exciting music playing with it, when stuff gets hectic. Maybe for distant explosions, then maybe.. but i will have to see how it all plays together with the music+footage+sounds.. It's the overall experience that matters in the end, isnt it? ;) Totally right, and most people wont give it much more than a moments thought - they are not likely to analyse whether what they heard matched real life, it's just the impression you leave them with that they will take with them. Funk on YouTube!
DTWD Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Glowing, To be honest although I think it’s ok overall, it has some stand out good bits and some elements that reduce the whole, but themselves aren’t bad. I feel it's a little too dark for an entire video, although I loved the colouring. Thinking purely from a test scenario to get that video "right" for me I would look at the following: 1) Even though it's only a test I was disorientated initially because I had no reference point to see where I (the camera) was, so maybe start a few seconds earlier. Maybe start with a pan down so we can see the horizon etc. Maybe this is compounded by the fact it's a bit too dark. Anyway the reason I bring this up is that it sort of throws the viewer off balance a bit, and as it's only a short clip I wasn't able to appreciate the subtleties of it because of this. It’s not really a complaint for a test clip I know. 2) Reduce the camera bobble overall 3) Add some extra bobble/shake at jet flypast 4) Add a very wet reverb jet noise track and mix it in an out with the jets positioning in the scene. Maybe look at high passing the wet track. 5) The volume of the jet track is too loud when it's far away from the camera for my liking, fading to the wet track and reducing the volume should fix this 6) Reverb up and pass (both high a low) the missile audio, maybe delay them off each other a bit. The overall delay wasn't a problem, but for me the audio seemed too perfect for that kind of distance. 7) I have some crap speakers at work so I can't judge this very well here, but I wanted some LFE rumble, maybe there is but I am adding it in case there isn't. I want to feel the power in the scene. Of course with the music playing most of the audio suggestions are a bit pointless as you won't hear them. Overall it's a good test and I applaud you for doing it, more so for sharing it, I wouldn't dare because there are people like me around :D. Anyway it could make an excellent shot in a scene with a bit of a setup, maybe the camera looking down the valley and the hill side with birds tweeting etc, and then the A10 roars past the camera and you start your sort of loose tracking shot you have in this video. Just my opinion. I hope you don't feel like I am being overly negative or anything, sorry if I come across like that. On a side and related note I do mess with audio a bit and would be happy to help you out if you ever wanted a second opinion or a helping hand, although from the evidence of your other videos you’re not overly needy of it. ED Team Glowing_Amraam Posted May 24, 2010 Author ED Team Posted May 24, 2010 Thinking purely from a test scenario to get that video "right" for me I would look at the following: There you said it. You're looking at the video from a one-man perspective. :) I agree on some of your points, like the wobble beeing overdone. And i did actually create some added "shake" just as the a-10 flies by the camera, but it turned out to be barely noticable... Anyway, the coloring and darkness of this test video is not something that will go throughout the movie, since this was shot with Flaming Cliffs 2, and DCS: A-10C will have improved lightning effects (and you will simply LOVE the sun glare effects ;) ) But for this test shot, you don't *need* to have any reference about where you are, or what you're looking at, that was the whole point. You start the clip and you go "ok whats this? Oh look, an A-10!". Sort of... If you have "crap" speakers, i suggest you try watching the clip with a better setup. And the sound may not have so much "rumble", but there is enough so it's not overdone for such a simple test clip. I'll say this much though; When you're watching the final movie, with music and all the sound effects that go with it, i'm gonna actually "applaud" you if you can find faults in the sounds i use. That's how confident i am with this project in mind. :D And it's a good thing, it's the viewers that will enjoy it the most. I said this when i first started working on this project; This will be the mother of all A-10 videos, and the holy grail for DCS: A-10C :D https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgJRhtnqA-67pKmQ3A2GsgA ED youtube channel https://www.facebook.com/glowingamraam My facebook page
DTWD Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 There you said it. You're looking at the video from a one-man perspective. :) Yes I am, but so are you as well :P DCS: A-10C will have improved lightning effects (and you will simply LOVE the sun glare effects ;) ) Ooh excellent stuff, it's the one thing that's always impressed and disapointed me in one go with DCS and Lock on is the lighting effects. They are somehow good and bad at the same time. I think the day night cycle can look amazing, but then let down by the sun in parts, a bit of glow goes a long way :D. But for this test shot, you don't *need* to have any reference about where you are, or what you're looking at, that was the whole point. You start the clip and you go "ok whats this? Oh look, an A-10!". Sort of... I agree, and do mention that it isn't really needed, I just found it a bit jaring, even for a test because I had to watch it a second time (although I would have anyway ) to figure out what just happened. If you have "crap" speakers, i suggest you try watching the clip with a better setup. And the sound may not have so much "rumble", but there is enough so it's not overdone for such a simple test clip. I will be watching it tonight at home... I'll say this much though; When you're watching the final movie, with music and all the sound effects that go with it, i'm gonna actually "applaud" you if you can find faults in the sounds i use. DTWD Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Yeah, it just re-read what I said, and I was going to change it. What I meant was "your one man...blah blah blah" I think we all look at something with our own slant and do things "our way", that's why some people get paid sick money to do things because there way is cool. Anyway my offer stands, if you want a second opinion on anything just ask. Good luck, if you think it's better than Edge it should be good :). Regards [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

ED Team Glowing_Amraam Posted May 24, 2010 Author ED Team Posted May 24, 2010 Well, just had a brief look at my timeline and my estimate will have about 6 minutes with footage from A-10, plus a minor intro at the very beginning. And with credits included, it will run for over 7 minutes. :) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgJRhtnqA-67pKmQ3A2GsgA ED youtube channel https://www.facebook.com/glowingamraam My facebook page

And with credits included, it will run for over 7 minutes. :) This is a pretty stupid question, but the footage will be from the actual DCS A-10C, right? In your project 10 "warm up" video im pretty sure that is just the flaming cliffs a-10a. Kevlon Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 awsome ! I realy like the zoom effect. I have to say that I agree with whats been said earlier also that the wobble is a nice touch but its a bit much that it is beeing constant. Maybe 2-3 wobbles would be enough? I dont think you should eliminate it all together. I also like the delay on the sound, altough i feel that its too long of a delay, ( the camera is not that far away, so the sound wouldt take that long to reach it.) you should deffently keep the delay, just make it shorter . Overall this is the best camera work I've seen you do mate, I watched it 5-6 times in a row ;) awsome! cant wait to see the rest! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

ED Team Glowing_Amraam Posted May 27, 2010 Author ED Team Posted May 27, 2010 Hey Kevlon. :) There's not gonna be any "the rest" of this clip, since this isn't actually part of DCS: A-10C. I might include it though, somewhere in the movie. Will have to see how different it differs from the rest of the footage. And it will most likely be alot shorter in the final movie too. It was just a test after all :) I have no idea when this movie will be finished. I'm not gonna rush it.
