dennisllante Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I don't know exactly where to put this in the forums.. But I've been thinking/dreaming of about the future of what we've been enjoying these years. Since it is free to dream I just want to share it. DCS blackshark series + Lockon series + Arma series + In HD + In Digital Audio + In 3D + trackIR + Triplehead2go+ Joystic, Rudder Pedals And HoTAS (forcefeedback) + Multi Core Super Ghz PC + Super fast Video card and high RAM + Super Fast Internet What is my point? Imagine Doing ground troop operations (Arma stuff) while having Close Air Support with a DCS series AH-64 or A10 or Su-25T online in 3d!! MS-FSX has all the map of the world too..so we can add it. It is just exciting!!..the fact that it is all possible and within our reach.
sobek Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 It is just exciting!!..the fact that it is all possible and within our reach. Well, if within your reach means the coming 10+ and then some years, then you might be right :D Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
Scudslaker Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 hehe, you are sweet dreaming of the future. well from the point that we ve started simulation with simplified gfx and no sound, only about 20 years ago, things changed in important ways. sure, FSX has the whole world inside, but you cannot combine DCS and FSX world to one big game. i think the software development of allround simulations has already begun. but it will take several moments till we can share the experience of doing CAS for our ground buddies moving in the mud, with nearly same enjoyable grafics then actually in ARMA or else tactical shooter.. but for the developers reading this thread, if you need testers for such a game, i am willing to help!) as told in your post, the situation is just verry exciting, i m pleased looking forward, what will come the next years.. but to be honest, actually i spend a lot of time in DCS environment..if the sim is getting more and more complex, like a real"virtual" interactiv battlefield environment.. i will get more troubble with my girl,.. it s not a game, it s a simulation^^ she doesn t want to hear anymore!) dooom Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 i think this is the dream of every armchair grognard. I have faith it will happen. The trick is to maintain an accessible sim to all in terms of technology requirements as well as a leadership component. the tech and rendering requirements would be crippling. Also, combined arms MP can be disasterous without leadership. Anyone whom has played ARMA knows this - decent fidelity for ground troops coupled with no leadership just equals a silly game of tag with virtual bullets. now if you join up with a community like Tactical gamer or Shack Tactical then you have a different situation and it becomes VERY imersive.. But really, HOW can you possibly build in a game mechanic that encourages coordination and objective based maneuvering for all assets whilst not impinging on what is afterall a casual pastime? battlegroundeurope has tried this with the High Command concept but many players simply do not enjoy "taking orders" from a 15 year old. be patient... someone will figure it out. 1 ASUS Tuf Gaming Pro x570 / AMD Ryzen 7 5800X @ 3.8 / XFX Radeon 6900 XT / 64 GB DDR4 3200 "This was not in the Manual I did not read", cried the Noob" - BMBM, WWIIOL
dennisllante Posted June 14, 2010 Author Posted June 14, 2010 yah..We are all patient and should be patient and enjoy what we have right now..But I am really excited for the fact that it is possible. Right Now, Im kind of like studying all of them.. Some weeks Im on FSX studying Airline procedures, Nav Routes, STARS SIDs and flight plans then other weeks Im on DCS studying the ABRIS and Datalink..and there will be weeks where Im on an Su-25 and 25t..and weeks on ARMA2..it's been all but fun.

Hunt3r.j2 Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 It would basically require huge amounts of very very good LODs, I mean for everything. Or DX11 to go from flight sim levels of detail to quickly tessellate to FPS levels of detail.
ARM505 Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 I still maintain the biggest challenge to this dream is NOT technical, it's financial. Who is going to develope a technically accurate, non-console, MASSIVE (I say again: MASSIVE) project, with almost no hope of recovering development costs? Unless you can say: - Broaden the reach ie console FPS's (or other) that tie into the massive, persistent game world (yes, you'll need that too) but do not have the whole sim since they won't be able to run it. You MUST gain a large following. - As mentioned, you'll need one or more large, persistent game worlds (think EVE online) for players to do their part in. Something that rewards organisation, leadership etc. Yet more stuff to develope (ie yet more resources required) - You will almost certainly need subscription based play to sustain the amount of maintenance/patching required. Just a guess. Technically, PC's will get there soon enough. Financially, I don't see this being possible in the way that we (technically accurate sim loving people) want. IMHO.

All of their simulator were able to interact. If i'm right.. was a big puff... :) Maybe the time wasn't ripe.. But now, i think it could be a interesting project to be pursued. Of course, we have to have all of the ED's products compatible... Also with separate products.. With the DCS: A-10C stand alone, FC2 standalone, BS standalone and so on... I think it coul be a great and rewarding project.. Scorpion [sIGPIC]https://forums.eagle.ru/signaturepics/sigpic62322_8.gif[/sIGPIC]

Even if someone is capable to do that, even if he doesn't care of the enormous amount of resources needed... Imagine how many of the today's 40year old DCS funs will... die waiting! Isn't this racism? (...or a bad joke)
RAMjb Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 (edited) For now what I dream of is for DCS to publish a flight sim , based on the F-14 Tomcat of the 80s era, and its expected role of intercepting soviet naval aviation bombers doing anti-carrier sorties, with the high attention to detail they're showing in BS and promise to deliver with A-10C. One of the flight sims I've most enjoyed ever was Microprose's "Fleet Defender". The plane itself I always was in love with (probably my favorite jet fighter ever. Nothing will beat the Fw190 as favorite fighter, however, hehehe) and that flight sim was really enjoyable. It's a plane that hasn't been the point of attention of many simulators either...and one that a lot of people are in love with... /edit: I know it's highly implausible for this to ever happen, as ED is focusing on mostly modern combat and equipment, and the F-14 was retired from service some years ago. But well, that's why this is a "dream" ;) Edited June 15, 2010 by RAMjb

ZQuickSilverZ Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Bravo Sierra HA HA what a great sense of humor. Anyway this has BASICALLY (and I do mean BASIC) already been done. The Battlefield series (Sea, Air, and Land) does all that. The question is not if its possible. We KNOW its possible. The question is really about fidelity and map size (BF maps really are small in comparison). The ONLY way I can see this working is with a huge team, extremely patient gamers, and a subscription based service ($14.99 a month) to pay for R&D (they can release a vehicle every couple of months lets say with a huge team), and a large subscription base. Let's be honest here. It isnt about if its technically feasable, its about the time and money it would take to make something like this. Another problem is some things are just not as intresting as others. I mean would you rather fly a jet or...... would you rather operate a ship (and for a sim this would take several people I would think)? Would you rather operate a tank or...... a SAM. I would'nt think operating a submarine would be all that intresting for instance. Yeah it works in Silent Hunter but that game is specifically designed for Sub warfare not a general sim enviroment. If you dont have people fill all or most of those rolls then its not truely an all around sim is it? (Ill drive the fuel truck) I need, I need, I need... What about my wants? QuickSilver original. Coolhnd1 Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 There is an MMO which simulates Ground, Sea, and Air on a really large Map of Northern Europe but unfortunately is strictly a WWII sim. -- CoolHand
