So I've not played a flightsim for nearly a decade now, but I've recently caught the bug to get back into it, and more seriously now that I can afford doing this right.

I have several games that I want to play now, although ultimate, DCS A-10C is the one that I'm really looking forward to.

My question is this. Should I test my patience and wait it out for Thrustmaster's A-10 flight control set to come out along with DCS A-10C, or should I just jump on a Logitech G940 and enjoy other games while I wait?

Also, since the TM set does not include rudder peddles and they don't seem to have plans to make a set, what do people recommend to complement the set?

Thanks for any advice people may give.

I think the answer depends on you. If you can stand the wait (and the torture from GA and Wags:D) then wait for DCS: Warthog and the stick from thrustmaster. As for what you would get now, I don't have enough experience with various equipment to talk about different HOTASs. I would recommend Saitek rudder pedals. They have solid construction and their size and tension are adjustable.

The Thrustmaster Warthog is in a class above the Logitech G940. If you get a G940, plan to sell it in the future should you ever get your hands on a Warthog. The difference might not be obvious through pictures, especially to someone who is just getting back into HOTAS systems, but trust me: They are in completely separate classes.

I have Saitek's rudder pedals and I have good things to say about them. In 3 years they haven't stopped working (which is more than I can say for my old set of CH pedals). The only problem is one of the nonfunctional plastic pieces at the base broke off, and I had to glue it back on. Functionality wasn't affected, just the pedal's grip on my rug.

Also, since you havent used a flightsim for ten years, get TrackIR. Trust me, it will make a huge difference.

Oh yes. I plan on getting that. Unfortunately, TrackIR5 doesn't seem to be working with ATI drivers at the moment, and I just got a new HD5850 :(. Hopefully they'll resolve that problem soon or I may get rid of it for some sort of Nvidia card.

I own a G940 and am very dissapointed with it. Some folk were dissatisfied on release with the way it handled force-feedback, but apparently that was solved with the latest software.

I am very dissatisfied with the issue called "Axis Reversal Bug", which basically ruins the excellent precision of the stick, throttle and rotaries. There are other issues around, if you do a search in the forums for G940 you´ll find plenty of comment on the stick

Should those issues be corrected though (and they claim they´re "reviewing the issue" and working on new software, without ETA -probably months- nor commitment to what will they solve), it is potentially an outstanding HOTAS. I bought it because of Force Feedback, and can assure you that it added a dimension to my enjoyment.

RSharpe its been a decade so why not wait on buying a HOTAS until at least TM's Warthog HOTAS comes out. If you really want to get in the game in the meantime get a cheap $20-30 stick to mess with (if you considering the Warthog HOTAS you have the money). Logitech and Saitek have their new stuff out, it's worth to wait for th TM HOTAS to see how the all stack up.

5970 here, TrackIR5 and using Catalyst drivers since 10.something with no problems.

On 10.6 currently, no issues.

I used 10.6 and I really had no problems. Is it specific to the 5xxx series? just upgraded to 10.7 and noticed an improved smoothness in FC2 and BS.

Top info, will get 10.7 asap!

New Logitech Profiler v5.10 available that appears to solve G940 reversal and center slop issue.

Reversal fixed? Just saw a post saying Logitech were working on it a few days ago.

Nope. From the 5.10 release notes:

User can now turn off panel lights for G940 in custom game control panel

Support G940 ministick manual calibration

Better support for G940 resume from suspend

And yes they've only recently acknowledged the problem.

And why should one consider buying a Warthog Thrustmaster which will cost about 1/3- 1/4th of the cost of a darn good computer (US $) ?? Kind of hard to justify

It's amazing and it'll last you 10 years.

I've been through countless CH and TM and MS joysticks and two sets of Saitek in the last 10 years, costing way more than my new WH. :joystick:

It's definitely a big purchase, but it's also a very long term purchase.

And you have R&D evidence of this stick lasting 10 years? Hell, you have some proof that this will last longer than any other stick? Which TM sticks have you had? None of the parts in those are used in the WH correct?

You probably did not mean your post to come across as an attack on someone else's opinion, but it sure reads that way!

No one knows for sure how long the WH will last eventually, but there are design attributes that add to it's long term life expectancy, eg the non contact hall sensors.

There are many users on here that actually have the WH, like Kylania, that have posted their reviews/opinions. Take 'em or leave 'em, no one is gonna force you to buy a WH.

Track IR does not work with the 64 bit version of DCS at the moment. There should be a fix from natural point to provide 64bit support. Just throwing that in here. It is working fine with ATI software/hardware. (I know that part of the thread was from July)

Thats strange about the CH, I have had mine for over several years with no problems. If anyone wants to know the truth about CH, google them and see how many problems it has compared to TM or MS sticks. I recently bought a cougar and will keep my CH set up in case I'm not happy with it, once I get it to finally work. Have had the cougar since June, make that 2 of them, took the 1st one back cause I thought it was broke. One thing I can say is the spring on this one doesn't seem like the 1st one I had a few years ago, so maybe they finally fixed that also.

My CH set up cost me $330 over 7 years ago and it still works perfectly...like I just took them out the box. The reviews from the warthog are good, but we have no idea how it is going to do after 1 or more years of use. The cougar didn't/doesn't have a very good track record. And..yes I still bought one.

I got myself a new X65 set up about 4 days ago. Was feeling kind of iffy on it for the first day. After I adjusted the dead zones and had it programed I must say it's a really amazing piece of hardware. The force sensing is really outstanding for accuracy. Build quality is great as well. Really happy with my purchase.

An x52pro setup is sufficient. I'd sell you mine for (checks price of Warthog HOTAS) around $500.

It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm

In the case of the OP, I'll go with SH and pick yourself a X52 + TrackIR combo for the win.

Did I said sexy Warthog?! Damn.
