This one's Dead out of the box lol, Ed Macy didn't get a paid endorsement.

Look into the endorsement deal that those two got for their "approval" it is very well known, you can even find it by googling even.

Although they admit to being paid they will not divulge the amount.

Once again we are comparing turds to apples.:pilotfly:

So what is your argument that they are so different? There are hundreds of other drivers that use it that DON'T get paid. I can say from my experience that driving a Formula 2000 in iRacing is a hell of a lot more realistic than flying a 172 in FSX.

Please accept my apologies, I guess I missed the part where we were discussing FSX and Cessna 172's. I suppose I need to get this old mind in gear and read the thread more thoroughly.

On the subject of Ed Macy I emailed him a while ago and he said he wishes he got more chance to play BS as he finds it a brilliant simulation.

Ponder that for long enough, and by the time you have an answer you'll no longer be able to tell the difference anyway :)

LOL no totally wrong. I have my PPL (+complex) and done quite a bit of amateur racing. Each is easy on it's own- but flying in combat is no more difficult physically and mentally than say, winning a GT1 race.
So how often is it that you fly your Cessna 172 in combat? could you post a video?. And I know everyone likes the crazy car driving games but IRL how many times are your fellow racers trying to shoot you with cannon and Missiles? Edited by aairon

I think his main point is that car racing done right is not so easy and in sims I agree. I use iracing as well and is is very different from your standard rfactor or gtr games.

To get competitive requires more time than you would need on average to get reasonable with a flying sim, in my experience.

I am not talking about quick blats around the track but the consistency and skill required around road courses with a field of very good drivers. The physics in iracing is v.good and should be compared to BS if rfactor can be compared to lomac.

Both racing and flying can be played as a game or simulated as close to real life, dont think of the racing that he is talking about as racing as a game, think of the guys that race to simulate racing and choose their sim, e.g. iracing, based on that. It's not that easy.

So I guess we could safely agree that iracing is to other car "Sims" what DCS BS is to other flight "Sims"

yep :)

I will add to that though because the other poster commented on it. I mostly play IL2 and there are a lot of dogfights etc so good fun and lots of shooting. Having said that it doesn't give me the adrenalin that a close race has on iracing, being a car length ahead of someone for ten minutes trying not to make a mistake, or just behind someone waiting for them to make a mistake is a lot of pressure.

It's horses for courses but I get more worried about mistakes in a race than in combat, a good race seems to pull you in more. Possbily because there is no ai.

That's a huge compliment to them, I don't have a steering wheel nor gas and brake peddles (I guess I could use rudder peddles lol) but I would need a steering wheel for sure to check it out properly. Another thing on my wish list:cry:

Racing sims do NOT compare to flight sims, especialoly COMBAT flight sims.

You said that. Right there. And it's wrong in terms of both technology and learning curve. Driving a car is easy. Flying a plane is easy (I soloed in 14 hours and passed my checkride at 54). Driving a car at world class level is no easier than flying an airplane in combat (which would be the only logical equivilent). They're both dangerous and require pinpoint precision and unwavering concentration.

You can solo an airplane at 16, same as you can get a license. So your statement has zero supporting evidence. That's all. Not trying to start a war, but it's a bit of a slap in the face to some very talented developers and highly skilled drivers out there. I wouldn't lump iRacing in with Sonic the Hedgehog.

lol, well how often does a helicopter pilot fly into combat and get shot at- with missles? My friend did a tour in Afhganistan and was shot at by small arms once. Says the scariest part was the terrain. He flies blackhawks and ferries special forces dudes around. It would be fair to point out that I turned him onto iRacing :)

Well you do make a couple of very good points, So let's all enjoy this stuff for what it is.

I guess I need to see what's required in regards to hardware, I suppose a steering wheel with shifting levers etc..?

Also I think the racing stuff requires a different level of reflexive response and is better suited to younger folks as is reflected IRL. May not be so good for us older folks lol.

The only solution as I see it is to combine all of them into a big virtual world, the possibilities boggle the mind.

:lol:The things running through my imagination just thinking about the possible scenarios:megalol:

In fact we could just call it 'top gear: the game'

I am a numpty

my joystick had some friction / sticking problems - a quick spray with PTFE and adjust the control curves and she flys like a dream now

reminds me of the time I had a very slightly damaged steering bearing on my motorbike - it meant I slightly weaved all the time because the steering resisted moving out of the center point

helicopters require a light touch
