Direct Compute for DirectX11 would offload this on the graphics card instead of on the CPU so the wasted CPU cycles argument doesn't hold water.

"Microsoft’s DirectCompute is a new GPU Computing API that runs on NVIDIA’s current CUDA architecture under both Windows VISTA and Windows 7. DirectCompute is supported on current DX10 class GPU’s and future DX11 GPU’s. It allows developers to harness the massive parallel computing power of NVIDIA GPU’s to create compelling computing applications in consumer and professional markets. "

Too bad they decided to scrap DX11 for DCS:WH

Yeah it's a real shame they didn't make us wait another 6+ months so they could re-engineer the product to use a new technology that half the market would have to buy new hardware in order to utilise.

I know that when a human is shot, in real life, that person just toppled over and sometimes come to rest in the weirdest position. However, have you seen that video of president Reason's bodyguard's body lifted off the ground by a bullet fired at him? I've also read an account, from a tank unit serving in Iraq, of bodies riding the top of an explosion.

And not trying to be a Richard but I saw a guy shot, fell on the road, and shot a few more times while he laid there trying to shield himself with his had. Live in a 3rd world long time you're bound to see a gruesome event or two.

It highly depend on what hit them, a .30 will cause very high damage, and at .50 the body just explode in big chunks due to hydrostatic impact spreading, just like when you throw something in a pond the water splash and circles spread, when a bullet that big hit you you just blow up like if a grenade had exploded attached to your body. I have a nice video of brits snips taking talibans at up to 2+ Km its rather impressive and messy.

Ooooooooh Marketing Pitches for f''cks sake! If you go ahead and read the fine print you´ll find that there are very serious issues in syncronizing what comes out of the GPU with what´s running on the CPU. It´s basically two computers in one. The sim is a realtime application.

That, and DC is just starting to conceive the idea of the moment when it will be able to start using diapers. It´s not even clear if the API will not be completely revamped in DX11.1 or 12 for instance.

Seriously guys, this things are far more complex than they appear, to implement, and far less magical and universal in what they can eventually provide, than what the marketing intern they assign to pitch them would lead you to believe. And I´m talking for an IT professional. If your area of expertise is, say, Gouda Cheese, you´ll be a much happier person if you refrain from even reading this stuff.

That's kind of a lame excuse. Maybe half the market has DX11 now, but where will be in 3 years? I have nothing but love for DCS, but I do find it a tad lame that were using technology that made it's debut in 2003.

DX11 has some sweet multicore and tesselation features that would definitley benefit A-10.

Half the market? Not even close. Steam hardware survey says 5.6% of it's users have DX11 enabled graphics cards, and that's a group that's almost certainly well ahead of the typical gamer:

Well ED have already stated they intend to implement DX11 in their next module, so you can start with your waiting exactly right now. I just hope you don´t mind if I have a lot of fun with the obsolete DCS:W in the meantime.

Every DX11 game I own(Dirt2, Metro2033, STALKER, BF2BC) supports multiple version of DX hardware its not DX11 or bust.........You don't have to buy new hardware unless you want to have better graphics....so stop trying to portray it as a all or nothing affair ...it's not. How many DX11 games do you own and what do you base your assumptions on? My guess would be zero.

Uh... huh. It's a very nice rebuttal, so if I'd actually said anything of the sort I'd be feeling quite the tosser. Good job.

No, he was very precise and right. It's not that those who don't upgrade would not be able to run it, but they would not see any benefit from the additional waiting time.

Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.

But making everybody wait for the game, even though maybe half are not yet willing to buy the new hardware is a two-sided sword. Now it's the DX11 people that have to wait for their feature, but at least everybody gets to play it on time *fingerscrossed* :)

Do ragdoll physics even have any impact on physics like DX11? Thought that was for another pointless debate.

Not likely any different impact then DX9 or 10. Ragdoll physics as the name implies is a bunch of physics (math) calculations. This would be more affected by the computational hardware (i.e. how fast your graphics card is) rather than a function of DX.

Over the course of the thread "ragdoll physics" has been taken to mean everything, from actual ragdoll physics to enemy AI, trucks (!?), DirectX 11 and 64 bit software.

I don't think anything can be expected to make sense anymore .

I just had to resurrect this old thread... Call me crazy, but I'm pretty sure a salvo of rockets that I just fired at some virtual Russians sent them flying (well more like sliding).

ED your work continues to amaze me. The troops, and their reactions to fire are more and more convincing! This sim is flat out AMAZING! Cant wait to enjoy the further refinements as they are worked in.

Thanks again ED
