Has anyone installed LOMAC on a windows XP64 setup?

The 44th server is running XP64 and we're getting an error when trying to activate (ie. we dont' even get to activation stage. The error message failes to gather system info because it claims that msinfo32 caused an error - but I can use msinfo32 just fine.)

Devs, does msinfo32 need to be in a specific place?

my understanding is that since SF works on the driver level, it needs a XP64 driver, which hasn't been created yet

I fail to see how it's StarForce's fault for not supporting an OS that the game isn't made for.

I fail to see how it's NOT StarForce's fault for failing to support the new generation of hardware. Sheesh man. 64 bit OS' will be spreading pretty soon, much like 32 bit ones did. It would be a mistake for them not to be supported.

On the other hand, maybe it's too much of a hassle for ED - they will have to recompile LOMAC wholesale for 64 bits since starforce requires a driver.

So you see, in this case, it is a Starforce issue. It really all ought to work just fine, but what can ya do. I guess we'll just have to redo the server.

of course, SF will support 64bit OS.

but at present time it don't, so we have to take it and live with it.

Windows WP64 is still in beta stage which means that SF will not even bother to develop the driver for it.

However ED will not have to recompile the exe for the game. 64 bits sytem can still use 32 bits adressing program.

Posted

It affects all versions, and LOMAC WILL have to be recompiled because you can't call a 64bit driver from a 32bit app in xp64 ... guess what sf installs on your computer to call for protection? ;)

yepp, its the all loving starforce crappy thingie..... *doody-doody-doody*

I don't see it being starfarce's fault yet..

It's a new OS and everything driverwise must be 64bit.

It will take a bit for vendors to update their software for it..

Thanks,

Brett

I imagine they would have to sell a seperate version with the 64bit drivers as you would need either the 32 or 64 bit version, depending on the windows you use. They wouldn't be cross compatable.

This is just the driver part of StarForce, FC 1.1 itself would run on either platform.

Maybe someone should tell SimHQ their Lomac doesn't work in 64 bit.

I bet if you have 1.1 on cd is should work, those that DLed 1.1 may have to wait for SF to come up with a driver for a 64 bit system.

LOMAC itself would run fine as 32bit programs can run on XP64.

But StarForce itself is based on a driver to run the copy protection, thus causing all the flak about it, and a driver needs to be programmed specifically for XP64. Probably future versions of SF will detect wether it's in a 32 or 64 bit environment and install the correct driver.

I believe the CD version will have SF as part of it as well, and since SF is a driver based CP, it will need to be updated as well.

Yep, I agree, forgot SF was on the CD as well. It doesn't look like a 64 bit OS helped V1.02 at all but made it worse by about 1 fps.

Have tried as already with the FC 1.1 demo and posted here (weeks ago, now the thread is gone...)

It's StarForce that is not compatible with the 64bit OS, I tried it on WinXp 64 Beta and as you posted, SF blocks it, saying that it is requires Win2000 or WinXP.

FC 1.1 will run on an 64bit XP, well, the demo did after I got rid of the SF protection. It will be handled like any other 32bit software, don't worry....

The guys from StarForce have to do their homework, ED is fine already.

kind regards,

Raven....

LockOn runs on XP64 - but starforce don`t => Starforce fault! :)

Interesting how everyone is jumping over SF for not have 64bit drivers, but as someone else mentioned TIR doesn't have them either, yet no lambasting NaturalPoint for not supporting the OS :icon_neut

Actually, for quite a while now a few of us have posted on NaturalPoint's own forums, requesting at least an unsupported beta of the 64-bit drivers for TrackIR3/VE. It's the type of request one can send to an open and service minded business, and sometimes they go along with it. Somehow it's understandable that this small hardware company doesn't have the resources to put all their programmers on the 64-bit software while they're still working to fully complete the 32-bit version. I'm sure they will deliver soon, as always.

SF not having 64-bit drivers is affecting a whole lot many more people. One would think it's in their interest to think ahead to avoid this bad blood among end users, which in turn also bleeds onto software producers. What's their business plan, making the best possible copy protection or ticking customers off?
