159th_Viper Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Anyone else having trouble starting the engines in the start up mission? I was working the first time I tried it, but I think when I reconfigured my CH Throttle to control my throttle (JOY_Z), that it broke using the ALT-HOME key shortcut somehow. I double checked my hotkeys and they're still mapped correctly. ...at a loss. Ensure your throttle is all the way back to idle prior to mission/engine-start procedure. Any input detected from the Throttle Axis will prevent Engine Start. Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Click me to commence your Journey of Pillage and Plunder! Robin_Hood Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 I experienced problems with the Navigation mission. When asked to set TACAN, pressing the TCN button (nav mode, behind the stick) didn't trigger folowing speech. I suppose it's a known problem, though it didn't show up here yet BTW, thanks for the fixed start-up training ! 2nd French Fighter Squadron

Hmmm...I don't think I had the throttle engaged when this issue started occurring, but you have me doubting myself so I shall try again and pay close attention to that detail. Thanks Viper. Skoshi Tiger Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Tried the training lesson on take off. It appears that the clouds are very flat, with much less 3d perspective than in Flaming Cliffs 2. When I landed, I rolled onto the grass. Despite increasing my throttle to the max, the plane would not budge. I am pretty sure that this is not realistic performance for an A-10. Otherwise, I had good frame rates 30 plus in the entire lesson. Also note that when the instructor is speaking. He is almost drowned out by the sound of the engines...when all sound settings are set to the max. When I rolled onto the grass my nose wheel disintegrated landing strut intact. Did something similar happen?
power5 Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 I tried the 1st 3 training missions and got no voice over at all. Every mission Ive tried in fact that had text didnt have any voice over. I figured it just had not been done yet. The first two missions did nothing. No text. Cockpit buttons unclickable. All I could do was look around. Same problem I have been having. Someone else as well. He recommended to click the pause button again and it worked for him. I am going to try this when I get home. I noticed in the missions that start with a running A/C that I hear a very brief engine sound after pressing pause, then nothing. Its like something locks up. As you said, I can still look around and am actually able to move the running A/C on the runway, but no buttons are clickable. Dugulus Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Cockpit not clickable, no training voice I have seen a couple people post this kind of problem. I hadn't seen this answer yet so: I had this problem at first but realised I had to press the "pause/break" button more than once. After pressing it the first time the message goes away, but I think the sim is still paused. After pressing it once (or twice) more, the training voice and clickable cockpit should work.

Shake3000 Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Modified start-up training mission to skip EAC. Tested in Open Beta release version and seems to be okay. http://www.mediafire.com/?e59pwepzzk17a8c Does indeed skip EAC. However the mission gets stuck on DTS upload now. I press the OSB, data gets loaded then nothing happens.

Try holding down the OSB a bit longer, works for me.. System: Asus z270 A Prime, Intel i7-7700K 4.8GHz, 32GB DDR4, RTX2080, Samsung 500GB 850 EVO SSD. My Fing ID Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 In the start up tutorial, everything runs smooth in terms of being told on what to click (besides canopy which in known and lighting ie. nav lights steady/flash) But once I'm told to arm the LASTE, the switch is outlined and a clicking sound is made, but the switch dosn't move and the tutorial won't move past this point as the switch remains highlighted. Is there a way around this? Same problem here. The weapon sighting system for the HUD (can't remember off the top of my head) that we put in test had completed its test. I assumed it was like a computer (correctly apparently lol) that hitting the Ent button would exit it and the tutorial started running again. The MFDs were lit up by then and I was to load data in the right one and get a tac view in the left one. On the right one the button above "Load Data" was highlighted. I clicked it and the tutorial continued but nothing happened. I then clicked the "Load Data" one but nothing happened again. I saw a post saying that you have to hold down the MFD buttons for a little bit of time so I'll try that out. The Tac button was correctly lit up, but it too did nothing when pressed. Of course who knows if I skipped steps, this all happened because I pushed a button after the LASTE switch didn't want to function with any clicks, visible or not. Even moved up the throttle to ensure it wasn't some conflict between the switch and the throttle but nothing happened.
EvilBivol-1 Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Yes, this is probably related to the trigger not catching the button press. Wait for the data to be loaded (all asterisks reappear) and then press and hold down for a moment the CDU button to progress to the next step. Lesson should continue as normal. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Everything takes much longer. The Parable of Jane's A-10 Forum Rules
TonyP Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 EAC Switch in Start-Up Tutorial Has anyone gotten the EAC switch to function in the Training Start-Up tutorial? I'm following the guidance of the instructor, the visual shows the switch under the throttle, I attempt to click to move the switch from off to arm (on), nothing happens. I activate the wheel-brake to hold the aircraft from moving to get to a good view of the EAC switch while moving the throttle forward, clicking & clicking, etc., the switch just doesn't move. Has anybody experienced this problem, or is it just me? :helpsmilie: Tony

Ells228 Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 (edited) Guys, for the startup mission use this procedures checklist I made. I can start up (and shut down) the jet every time using this method (as outlined in the tutorial). http://www.veao.eu/dcs_a10/DCS_A-10_Quick_Startup_Procedure.docx Just skip the EAC step and move on to "Exit the Bit Test on the HUD" and the tutorial will carry on. You can assign key presses to EAC on and Off in options, controls if you wish to. If you skip it, then at the end of your procedures hit the Master Caution button to turn it off as EAC will be lit up on the warning panel. Hope this helps, as I know it does me. Edit >> I've just recorded this startup and shut down procedure on LiveStream and will be downloading the video and posting it very soon. In the meantime if you want to see it on LiveStream, it will be there in about 5 minutes - www.livestream.com/veaotyphoon (look for the link in the On Demand video buttons at the bottom of the main video window) Video link in MP4 is here - http://www.veao.eu/dcs_a10/DCS-A10_Startup_And_Shutdown_with_commentary.mp4 Edit Edit >> The video jumped and missed the first 2 steps which is battery to power and inverter to standby on the right electircal panel, then the lamp test that you can hear in the video. Also it didn't record the mouse, so I'll re-record in Livestream with the mouse cursor and highlight enabled so you can see where i'm clicking. I also missed a step on purpose which is to switch CICU to on, which brings up the MFCD's. I wanted to show you how to get them working if you miss that step. Edit Edit Edit >> I'm now recording in Fraps to get full screen and mouse - will get there in the end lol Edited October 6, 2010 by Ells228
My Fing ID Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Please please please read the 'Sticky' threads :) http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=58400 Please! If possible could we get "LASTE" added to that switch name? It's listed as EAC, and I assume it's the same switch but in the tutorial LASTE was the name that I remembered. Could help clear up more posts from people like me that don't know it's the same thing, well assuming it is lol

My Fing ID Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Ah got ya! It's that damn selective hearing I tell ya! I've gotta upgrade my driver too. There's a lot of stuff that flashes (buildings and such) but don't really want to get into it until I'm fully up to speed on my drivers, maybe that'll solve it. They're just a pain to upgrade now that the ATI install programs don't want to work and I have to install them via console lol
Ells228 Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 (edited) Guys, please check out my procedures list and videos. I explain in the video what works and what doesn't work when starting up and shutting down the jet. Let the testers get on with testing and let's help each other out. May I suggest you get to know your panels and where they are, again I've covered most in the video. I'm just publishing a fraps recorded (27Gb worth of recordings) startup and shut down sequence with me explaining every detail I could think of. Gonna take a while to publish but I'll upload when it's done later this morning (1am here). Edit >> Ok major crashing trying to publish it. I'll try it later today (now 2.30am lol) Edited October 7, 2010 by Ells228
DeltaDriver Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Is there a way to get the instructions back once they disappear? I find that sometimes I need to read the instructions again and by the time I'm half way through the 2nd read they disappear. A pause button would be nice for the training missions.
Havoc04 Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 In the DSMS training, the players A-10 spawns on top of another A-10. I fixed that one.. The closest AI that was near me i deleted. It was a static anyways. But 1/2 way through the tutorial it seems to get all jumbled up and basically is a unusable track as far as the newbie goes. :)

I find that sometimes I need to read the instructions again and by the time I'm half way through the 2nd read they disappear. A pause button would be nice for the training missions. If you press the Pause button on your keyboard, it'll pause the mission including any displayed text. I think most of the training missions tell you you can do that during their introductory dialog... You do need to make sure you pause it before the instructions disappear, since there's no way to get them back.

Bahger Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Landing training mission crashes sim every time Tryint to be a good forum citizen but not sure whether to post this under "Crash" or "Training Missions" dedicated thread: - I have never been able to get the landing training mission to work. It crashes the sim every time, in both 64x and 32x. Apart from occasional random crashes, this is the only persistent crash issue I have experienced but it's a biggie. Devs, if you want the exact text of the error message (it's long and complex), please reply here. Is there any way to copy and paste the content of error messages? I haven't found it.
