My first impression was FINALLY a hardcore fix wing combat sim!!!

Actually, at first I was overwelmed with the complexity (and I'm a Falcon flyer) but now after a few days I'm getting comfortable with it and I have to say I love it; even in beta state. This "might" be the sim that pulls me away from Falcon after 12 years

Well, learning the avionics aside. Little things such as too much lateral movement on landing or landing too hard will blow the tires and visually you can see the shreaded tires.

Learning the avionics is going to be the biggest issue for most people, but I believe as people become familiar and online wings start up those struggling will be able to learn from others. The flight model is very well done. Even as you start to taxi you feel the ground bumps, which just feels and looks so real. I'm not sure if rwy conditions have been implement or if it was just my inexperience but I slid around on landing during a thunder shower.

The only missing for me is "ivc" in game voice comms using the radios for online flying. :(

For me, complexity is everything from environmental effects, which button to push, flight model, radios, weapons performance, navigation all as realistic as possible.

There's some polish to be done but it is an awesome core product. I highly recommend everyone get their pre-purchase in to help show the viability of the product to the investors, and to keep the Devs in pizza and red bull

Agree, bring on the in game voice comms. That would take it to the next level.

Define W... j/k

How's the flight model? I understand it's difficult to compare a fixed wing a/c to BS; different beast and all. Let's say BS gets 85 out of 100 in the feeling of flight, how would you score A10C and why? I'm probably one of the few guys who fly ED sims, first and foremost, for the feeling of flight and it's been this way since original Flanker. I'd fly around for hours doing aerobatics - hours. I'd only shoot at stuff when I suddenly remember the thing has guns and rockets. To this day, I still don't know how to navigate properly and or use the weapons effectively in any of ED's sim, but I think I'll start to learn with this title.

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

Here's my question:

Is it a pain to download and install?

My worry is there will be several beta updates, and in every case I'll ahve to uninstall-reinstall and redo my setup and such. At that point I might as well just wait and get the release?

The plan is for the open beta to auto update, but I haven't seen the update process yet.

My 1st impressions?

I've been playing flightsims since the days of Gunship in the mid 80s.

And I have rarely been so fascinated with a sim as with DCS: A-10C.

Despite the obvious bugs and missing/incomplete features in this beta version I am absolutely in awe with what the devs have produced here.

I would say that the feeling of flying wont get much better unless you actually are physically sitting in the jet and flying.

I'm completely overwhelmed from the complexity of the sim and the realistic sounds. The sound of the engines really sound like they are powerful. The APU sounds the same as in BS imo.

by the way, does anyone else have the attitude indicator in the hud slightly offset to the right? (might be to the left, cant really remember) is this supposed to be? or do i have something wrong with my rudder calibration. :P

Its amazing and can't believe its a beta (most full games have more bugs).

I have an OC Quad core 775 and 5870 and everything runs on high at an alarming rate.

My first impression is that the game is extremely impressive. I saw the word "beta" and cringed a bit...I mean, really, do you want to beta a complex sim like this? But, this thing is ready to ship now IMHO.

...I'm soooo lost in the complexity of it all right now, but that is part of the fun.

Total must buy for anyone who is a DCS fan.

Well it's clearly not ready to ship. That's why it's beta !!

But it looks great so far.
