What an awesome feeling. Flew a pass over a few transports to identify the targets and set up weapons run. Came back for the 2nd pass. Put 'er in CCIP and readied a pair of GBU 12's. dropped nose in, put targets in the CCIP circle and let 'er rip! 4 transport truck kills with 2 GBU's

Made my way to the next waypoint where there sat a tight group of infantry and another one or two transports. Again I made my passing over run to get a clearer picture of the target zone and came back around for my weapons run. This time I dropped a pair of MK 82's and destroyed everything down there.

Sure I could have, and probably should have went guns on the 2nd group as it was mostly comprised of infantry and light armor, but I wanted to practice bombing :)

Great feeling!

Try the JDAMs. They have a wonderful salty taste.

Not quite sure how to use those yet, Which bomb is the JDAM?

Also what is the technical term for the right MFD targeting window so I can find it in my controls to assign it to my HOTAS

GBU-38 & 31. Read the manual while in active pause so you can take your time and go step by step. Pg 550. It's the easiest of the GBUs IMO. Very accurate. And you don't have to maintain a lase on TGt.

TGP is what your looking for. Gotta load out with the lightning pod. This will take some work to learn but is well worth it.

or the , . ; / keys

Yes, learn to use the TGP next with those GBU-12s. Lock up a target with the TGP from 20000 ft, go to a steep dive with CCIP and release as soon as piper is near the taget marker on the hud, or use CCRP and fly level and watch your bombs hit from that height with mega accuracy :) So far LGBs are my fav.

I still can't for the life of me figure out how to move the target designator in the TGP page to lock up a target. Nore do I even know how to lock up a target once I figured out how.

No where in the options controls do I see designate target or lock target or anything that even sounds close. :(

Once the TGP screen is up, press the TGP button again to make it the Sensor of Interest (SOI). Use the , . /; keys to slew the TGP. Then press TMS up on your HOTAS (or see whatever keyboard key does that) to mark the target (Set point track),

Ah I was finally able to get off 2 Mavericks and score 2 kills :)

The only other thing thats bothers me is if I loose track of where the target designator is, its hard to get it back into my hud and know where im lookin on the TGP page, is there any way to center that? I didnt see an option for HOTAS Slew Center.

Im not sure what it is HOTAS wise off the top of my head, but on the keyboard its a short c. I find also that if the tgp is slaved to something, you have to slew it off a bit before it will work.

Much easier, thanks.

I spent hours on the unguided bombs training mission and for the life of I cant seem to get it. Using the CR function in CCIP mode is not working the way I understood the manual's instructions. I just keep end up getting invalid release. CCRP is any better at 500ft according to the instructions because I have to get so close the Azimuth line runs off screen when I get near even if I approached with the PIBL centered on it. I tried the guided bombs lesson and it was so easy a baby could do it, but for some reason I cant even get unguided bombs to release. I managed to do it once and have been unable to repeat that.

I use the tgp to designate the target then line up my ccip cue to the diamond until I start my dive and release weapon at the min alt set. I have only used ccrp for gbu's and again I use the tgp to designate the target. I unfortunately have never used the hud to designate a target .

Try changing the Safe Escape Maneuver (SEM) in the weapon profile options from NONE to CLM (or either of the two others). This should help you get a valid CCIP solution provided you have enough altitude and a good dive angle. Instructions for this have been added to an updated version of the training mission.

Is it possible to designate a target in CCIP CR mode using the TGP instead of the TDC? I find it rather difficult to slew the TDC accurately onto a target without being very close to it to set the CR point.

In CCIP CR mode, you designate a target using the reticle pipper while it is latched to the bottom of the HUD. It may help to shift your POV up a little to increase the downward view angle onto the HUD. Otherwise the HUD camera partly obstructs the reticle.

@ Gunndawg: Congrats on your succesful run. I'm right behind you. The unguided bomb training mission requires a lot of active pausing because of all the set-up the script forces you to make in-flight. It sounds like you have made a mission for practicing CCIP and CCRP "dumb" bombing with good targets and the right ordnance. Would you care to share? If not, not prob, I'll figure it out tonight, I just knw I can learn this quicker if I do all the prep on the ground.

@ Evil-Bivol-1: I was reading the manual last night and wondering about the Safe Escape Maneuver setting in bomb profiles. It asks you to specify how you are intending to come off the bomb run, right? How does this affect the ability to get a solution? Should CLM always be the best option for training sorties?

you need to make the MCFD SOI before you can move the target designator. You don't really "lock" anything either.. just put it on point targeting.

Biggest issue is getting the mfd to not say "not soi"

you do this by pressing the coolie switch left or right for about 2 seconds

Anyone else feel that the explosion from a bomb in game is a little weak? Compared to video of a 2000lb Mk84, DCS effect seem slight.
