Steel Jaw Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Funny noone thought to ask that till now. Good question. Lio Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Atleast Wags said they would provide some kind of updater. Else by the time the game is released with a new beta out every two weeks all your activations will have gone. Equal all beta testers would have to email starforce for a new key. But oh well i knew it was starforce enabled when i bought it so guess ill have to live with the hazzel.
Ragtag Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 I believe the beta can and will upgraded to final when time is due. So the one activation used will stay in use. No need to activate again when final version is released. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] I7 3930K. 16Gb Corsair Vengeance 1866mhz. Asus P9X79 Deluxe. Asus GTX680 2Gb. Auzentech Home Theater 3D Sound. WarriorX Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 I hope your right, as "every activation is sacred, every activation is great...." (think Monty Python). Anyways, its important to me as I plan to be playing this simulator for the next several years. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "Is that you John Wayne?.......Is this me?" Druid_ Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 My understanding is that you only use an Activation up when the hardware its loaded onto changes. i7-7700K : 16Gb DDR4 2800 Mhz : Asus Mobo : 2TB HDD : Intel 520 SSD 240gb : RTX 2080ti: Win10 64pro : Dx10 : TrackiR4 : TM Warthog : ASUS ROG SWIFT PG348Q
WarriorX Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 Hmmm really....so I can reinstall it on the same machine as many times as I want as long as the hardware stays the same? Do video cards count as a hardware change? or is it just bigger components like motherboards and CPU? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "Is that you John Wayne?.......Is this me?" mvsgas Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 What I have done in the past if I need to re installed( FC1,FC2, BS and A-10C), I just delete the file, I do not uninstall. Then I re install it. I'm not saying you should do this nor am I saying this is the proper way, I'm simply saying that I have done this before so I do not have to uninstalled and reinstall ( using activations). Obviously this will not work if the CPU, MoBo is replaced. I have change RAM and video card without problems before. I'm sure this is covered somewhere in the forums, i see if I can find it. About the beta using your activations, I guess we should wait for word from ED team To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Thank you for you patience. Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..
Evilducky Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Each hardware has a specific number assigned to it. As you change hardware out adds up the numbers and when you go past a certain number in changes it's considered a new computer and it will ask for a new activation.

159th_Viper Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 mvsgas, thanks for all that info, one question though, do you clean the registry or leave the DCS A10 keys in place? Leave the keys in place. To delete the keys will burn the activation. If you have to clean the registry, just backup the relevant DCS:A10 entries and revert. leafer Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 (edited) Plus, if you've used up your activations, ED has been pretty understanding and should provide you with some new ones. Several years ago, my comp caught several viruses and I spent all my FC activations due to my own stupidity but they gave me new ones without haste. Unless people have been abusing their service, ED are cool like that. Edited October 15, 2010 by leafer ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
PeterP Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=998661#post998661 Dear community, I'm glad to announce that "DCS: A-10C Warthog" game is the very first one that use StarForcer AAA Technology. What AAA is? AAA - Automatically Add Activations Shortly, it offer licensed user unlimited number of activations. But you may understand that actually unlimited activation = no control over sales = huge piracy rate. That's why we decided to add one activation back in time period = X secs/mins/hours/days............., after the last activation is burnt (time period is decided by publisher). It's mean that right after you use you last activation StarForce Server starts to count the time period, and give activation back once this period is over. Hope this option will be usefull for you. Have a nice flight! NB. Ready to answer questions. Could you elaborate: "add one activation back in time period x"? Sure. For example publisher decided to set time preiod = 2 weeks. That means that after you burn last activation StarForce server starts to count 2 weeks and then added one actrivation for your serial number. So, in a 2 weeks you may activate the game one more time. After you activate it, server starts to count time period again. And this process goes permanently.
Tango Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Hi, AFAIK updates do not affect activation. If you want to do an upgrade of your computer, or re-install on a new one, you can deactivate your current copy, so you are sure to not lose the activation. Re-run the StarForce activation tool - you should see an option to deactivate. Best regr
kingpinda Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 I've installed the 64 bit version of the sim and activated it. Then I came to realize that trackir wasn't working. Soon i found out this was due to naturalpoint not supporting 64bit yet. So I uninstalled A-10 with the uninstall option in programs and reinstalled the sim with 32bit support. I didnt need to reactivate the sim. so yes. don't clear your registry and you'll be fine
WarriorX Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 So I guess now the question is how long has DCS/Eagle Dynamics decided to make X? (Where X is the amount of time that needs to elapse before an activation is replenished) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "Is that you John Wayne?.......Is this me?" psylent Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 I noticed during activation that there was a note that advised an installation could be deactivated by pressing CTRL or SHIFT when launching the program. Havn't tried this yet, but appeared that this would add one back to your number of activations if you were to move the install to another machine. BigVette Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 I dunno, my motherboard died on me last week and I just got my new rig up and running, and while I was able to keep my OS install and not have to reinstall any software, the damned authentication software said I had to drastic of a chance and required me to re-validate my install, thereby taking an install credit. I've only got like one or two installs left on Black Shark, surely I would not have to pay for an entire new license when/if I exhaust all installs? blahdy Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 I've only got like one or two installs left on Black Shark, surely I would not have to pay for an entire new license when/if I exhaust all installs? Just contact ED and let them know of your situation once you run out. They are reasonable and as long as you're not abusing the system, generally they'll just reset your activation credit back to 0.

goestrip Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 (edited) beta activation tokens Hello everyone, I'm just wondering how will be handled the activation between the beta and the official release, cause I had to activate the demo and it seems like it removed one token during the process. will I have to un-install it to retrieve my token (previous ED game style) and use it for the real release ? thanks ! [edit] damn, no sooner had I post this , that i found the answer : http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=59372&page=2 Edited October 16, 2010 by goestrip problem solved
