FC 2 already happened so I would appreciate if we don't spend much time talking about it. I'm guessing that it is highly unlikely that FC2 will be online compatible with DCS WH, which is a good thing.

Right now all we can do is to wai for the info on how long it will take after DCS WH release to finish an update for DCS BS and what updates and fixes will be included.

Man, you are not as friendly as you used to be. What happened? You got married?

:smilewink:

On topic...

I would like to ask for following:

Instructor support - I loose to many potential fliers cos it is not possible to properly explain all important points over Internet. You quite often need to actually point at something and to demonstrate from "inside".

Fixed lightning (anti-collision light reflecting in shadow places).

Dedicated server.

Better cheat protections cos this "checking" really sucks.

Decent server browser (sorting, sitrep, being able to tell how many are at each side...)

Interactive trees.

Raindrops, so that wipers have some function to them.

Many thingies for cockpit builders (view without cockpit panel, HUD data export...)

Thanks for your time.

I'm selling MiG-21 activation key.

Also selling Suncom F-15E Talon HOTAS with MIDI connectors, several sets.

Contact via PM.

I don't mean to scare you but no - not yet, so it will get worse :D

I didn't mean to cut the subject arbitrarily. It's just that what happened can't be undone. To give this a further thought we don't have much of influence on ED's final decisions either ;) So frankly the only attainable thing we can do now is to politely ask for DCS BS update estimated release date.

TL;DR

My understanding with DCS was that it was going to be a platform for vehicle modules. There was going to be one piece of software, DCS, which would be updated when new modules were released to improve features, bugfixes etc.

In a perfect world, this DCS would have an API that allowed people to create their own vehicle modules. Or even for the developers of DCS to create their own vehicles, without breaking compatibility between modules. So you would have the DCS software, and as long as you had the external model or some sort of "compatibility" module, you would be able to see other modules that you didn't purchase online, and be able to sim along side them in multiplayer. This is the sort of direction I assumed DCS would take (before and when Black Shark came out).

Unfortunately, it appears DCS is based in some part Flanker and LOMAC code, and to refactor/rewrite that code into something mentioned above would take too much developer time. I think ED would like to do something mentioned above in the future, I'm hoping sometime after Apache DCS is done we can have this. If DCS was turned into a platform, ED could still charge 3rd party developers royalties to create modules, and have restrictions on what they can do etc. I don't really care about 3rd parties, except for the community, to be able to create new content (because every platform gets abandoned by the developer eventually, and if its a good platform, why not let the community modify or improve content for it if the developer abandons it). I would like to see DCS become a platform, and be able to buy aircraft modules and not worry about having several different DCS installs on my machine, just one DCS install with several modules. DCS should have its own code base, and the modules should be separate. If a feature is added to DCS (such as new graphics tech, more realistic instrument degradation, physics, terrain or whatever) it should be available to all DCS modules (even if the module should require an update, it should still be able to run with the new version of DCS, just without the newer features).

Agree, unfortunately it is only theory. There were promised tools for content creation, partially given us one oth them - terrain creation. Some people make new terrain. Giving us more tools would relieve ED from making such low priority things (compared of course to example avionics) like game effects, where people could do it instead.

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

Maybe we should suggest ED that everyone who already has BS or A10 buys another one so they can add some additional codejunkies to their staff.

How is that? :)

If DCS really wants to make money, they need to stick FPS (ala Arma 2) into their world. That is what sells. Pure flight sim is pretty much dead.

That is actually a load of rubbish.

I will use FSX for example.

Despite the following.

1. poor game optimization on release.

2. Buggy as all hell on initial release

3. All default aircraft were very poor.

4. Basically lied about some features

5. Minimum specs to run the game were absolutely ridiculous and if there were any trading standards in the games market, they would certainly have breached it.

6. the add on was actually a bug and performance fix with some features that should have been in the first release.

7. Micro$oft fired their development team (rightly so)

8. Rediculous multiplayer client (the gamespy interface rarely worked without porblems)

9. Its multiplay was one of the main marketing features of the game but multiplay does not have AI traffic and traffic controllers (really really stupid)

10. Has a strong competitor which actually does decent flight physics

Despite these points to which i could easily expand on, FSX was a success and just take a look at the myriad of 3rd party companies making a business just out of add ons.

Don't tell me flight sim industry is dead. If it was dead, the biggest money munching, sell your mother for a profit company would not be investing and advertising in another iteration (especially after firing their old crew)

I don`t think so. All my fps games are pirated BUT I bought BS (i`m using a crack .exe thought because i`m reinstalling windows allot and i don`t want problems with activation) because is best simulator out and I will buy A10 to when DVD box will be out and I will buy every flight simulator game made in this way because is worth the price. And regarding you FPS opinion... I will never buy a FPS so thing again.. outside are more ppl like me :)

Yeah, well, everyone knows FPS is the biggest seller. Not that all of them are good. I hope one day that realistic flight sims like DCS will merge with the more realistic fps like Arma 2. It sucks having to do without one or the other.

Arma 2, while not having the greatest graphics, is a very good simulation for ground troops and somewhat for vehicles. But their flight sim absolutely SUCKS! It would be great if we could somehow plug DCS heli's and jets into it.

Then it would be a complete simulation.

FSX was a success BECAUSE of the myriad of 3rd party companies making a business just out of add ons.

If there were only stock planes, I would never bought any title since the FS95.

what! you mean its not a flight sim...

sinse when did BI make flight sims.... oh you mean the FM of the A/C in thir ground combat sims.. not all FPS players have a full HOTAS or even a joystick.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Back on topic, when will the update come? And what will it contain? I wish there were some news. ED have become so secretive. Yes, I kind of understand why; less pressure on them if they make no promises.

Has anyone else put this game to one side until a few things are fixed? I blame A-10C for Black Shark's lack of recent patching. It's all A-10C's fault... :glare:

No one will argue with that but on the other hand very few will call it "fault". It's the natural way of things in the DCS series. Module n will get updates after module n+1 has been released.
