Warning to all those TM Warthog owners who are planning to mod their stick.

If you're not VERY careful when re-seating the ball of the stick into the socket joint, you can trap the wires traveling through the slot in the ball. This description should hopefully make sense to anyone who has/will dismantle their stick.

Anyway, after relubing the stick, I trapped said wires, stripping insulation off a couple of wires and severing one, resulting in all buttons no longer working.

PLEASE be careful.

*Curses TM for not lubing the stick properly in the first place* :furious:

Ouf, RMAing something that you dismantled? I suspect that that's just not going to happen.

Wires are easy to replace though.

Yup, I did this, although I managed to only squish (and not sever) the earth wire.

Good tip is to have the baseplate removed and pull the wires taught from underneath [while refitting the ball joint] - it's having slack above the ball joint which causes problems.

It happened to me too, but I've soldered the traped wire and now it works fine. Next time I pulled out all the five wires from the IDC connector. It took for a while to reassemble it, but now it works fine - expect the stick's movements...

You'd be disturbed of the things I had RMAed in my RL work

I've soldered the severed wire, so hopefully I'll be able to get it working.

I just need to insulate the wires, as some of the plastic got stripped off.

Don't want anyone else to make the same mistake as it's an easy one to make, but also easy to avoid if you're warned about it.

Note kaiserb's tip!

It took me 4 hours one night trying to repair my Cougar throttle .

Opened it and thing literally fell to pieces.

Getting those circular rings to fit in their slots and the teeny weeny pot to fit all at the same time makes a game of Twister seem like child's play.

I dip my hat to modders.

LOL@ ordering Cubpilots throttle mod and then completely screwing it up(If I bought it.I opened mine up to look at the stock pot and see how cute a 20 cent pot looks).

And I'm unco with stuff and getting old.

Each minute I was looking at the window then at the Cougar at an increasing rate.

P.S I just won a bid on elite pedals.

Odear,what have I done?

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Don't worry CH Products.

I'm saving up for you.

All the others are the life of the party but you are sitting there in the corner not getting attention.

But I know if I took you home ,you would blow me away.

The other bimbo blondes are not good in bed.

I was starting to think the same thing when I couldn't get my cougars to install on windows 7. I even thought about going back to the store and punching the manager in the face. I told a squadmate that he might see me on the news. Good thing I didn't have my gun at the time, wait, I think I did have it.

Cali, I really have to say that although I was an early adopter to 64bit OS's, TM really did step up to the plate in delivering drivers. It did take longer than I wished, but heck, look at Natural Point, and I love TrackIR, but understanding that things take time, I was, and am patient, and the drivers came for the Cougar, as I'm sure they will for TrackIR.

I'm really at a loss with why you can't get your Cougar going. My only thought is that is HAS to be defective because from all the advice in this thread, you should be up and running with it.

I'm exercising daily to get rid of Cougarhateis disease I got and it's working.

Just to prove it I won some elite pedals on ebay in excellent condition.

I don't know why either, it's driving me crazy! That would make the 2 that I got both defective, hope that's the case. Maybe 3rd times a charm...

I love Jellybean's post, they make me laugh. I know the pain he has went through.

Congrats on the fix.

I don t know in USA but for such event here in Brazil you can find liquid insulating tubes, same material as insulating tapes but liquid, very usefull, and more precise than liquid glue gun, no chance to heat yourself to the swaering point :)

My red wire broke. The symptom was, pressing one button on the stick would light up all buttons. I guess it was pinched and finally broke. I managed to splice it back and put a little electrical tape on it over the soldier. All is well now but it is not a pleasant experience taking it apart like that.

I had no idea that a HALL circuit is actually an IC chip with a magnet floating over it. Pretty cool!

I hope third time is the charm Cali. Same thing happened with my X52 (I know not exactly cougar or WH). The first two were defective, but the third one is great (and also bought from a different place)

Gonna try to install it tonight, pray for me brothers...better yet pray for TM, this cougar and the Fry's store that I bought it at.
