Hello,I bought this card from Amazon today,I was on the fence about buying this or getting The TM Hotas WartHog but in the end I went with the card.I fly other sims aswell {FSX}So I thought this would be a pretty good purchase.I thought the price was good also.

It will be replacing a GTX 260,What do you think?

Thanks!

Lucky you and boy that is a big jump in GPU performance from a GTX260 to what you now have. Please share with us your perception of the jump in performance.

Still stuck with my GTX260 here but with my budget constraints the GTX580 is out of my reach. However the GTX570's have just come out and I have seen a stock clocked Palit online for £278 squid. With the help of Santa this may just be in reach. :music_whistling:

Can anyone point out the better brand for purchasing GTX580?

Since now most of my components are Gigabyte and I am happy, yet I read here and there that the eVGA card in maybe the top. Any suggestions?

id stick with gainward or asus... just my preference

but lets just say this:

i have a 8-9 year old gainward geforce2 32mb card fully functional

EVGA tend to offer a decent warranty and their Precision overclocking utility software comes in handy. I think all the GTX580's are reference design so the only thing that probably seperates them are what extra goodies come in the box and if they offer any factory overclock. So shop around. :)

Just read the review of the GTX570 on guru3d, looks like it's a very nice card. On par with the GTX480 but without the noise & heat issues.

Still loving my GTX580 mind :)

Yeah I'm liking the looks of the 570 too. having just purchased the hog, I've got to moderate somewhat and the 570 is starting to look ideal.

Might wait a bit and see what impact the 6970 has on the prices.

Yep for those not reaching the dream of a 580, the 570 seems pretty handy, basically a 480 without the cons.

Well, i've just seen the reviews of the new Cayman ATI/AMD cards, and they look comparable to the 470/570. Glad i went for a 580 now as i was worried that i may have jumped too early and the 6970 may have beaten it.

I sold my 285 for £130 so, in the end paid £260 for my 580. Result (luckily) ;)

I went from ATI 3870x2 in crossfire to a Gainward GTX580! Its an amazing card, in fact I'll be getting another in the new year for SLI after the Hotas Warthog.

Truly for me its been a significant upgrade :D

Does anyone figure 2 GTX570s would be good for a 3 monitor setup? What about the new ATI 6970s with the same setup i mind?

It all depends on price. New ATI cards have more outputs than NVIDIA cards, but if you have two, thats a moot point. I'm not a fanboy of either camp, so for me it would be simply price / performance and how they play with my chosen games.

DCS is CPU limited in my system since the 580 upgrade so i'm going to be looking at sandy bridge overclocked performance & prices next month to see where my next upgrade is coming from. if thats not impressive, then a sata6 ssd may be on the cards.

The new gtx 595 will be able to run 3 monitors on one card. Maybe out before May of next year.

To be technically correct, it's two gpus in sli configuration soldered onto the one board. So you'll still have sli/multicard troubles. may as well sli to get all your ports.

If you do want multicard configs, better to go with ATI - the ability with DP to run a helluva lot of monitors and CF scalability makes ATI multicarding a no brainer.

Nvidia have made one awesome card with the gtx 580, but multicard wise, they've dropped the ball with sli. A 6950 CF setup will beat sli 580's due to CF's insane scalability right now.

Unless, like me, you're sick and tired of ATI/AMD's constant driver and software issues.

NVSurround supposedly works quite well (better than Eyefinity) and SLI scalability is excellent with the GTX series of videocards.

Of course, ATI is definitely superior in terms of bang for your buck. However, if money is of no consequence, I would go SLI GTX 580.

My problem with Nvidia SLI in surround is the need to have 3 identical monitors... With Eyefinity, you can at least mix and match different monitors, as long as they`re the same resolution. With Nvidia, you need them to have the exact same refresh rates at the same display modes, as well as sync polarity.

That is true.

I think the assumption is that most people will be using 3x the same monitor as opposed to having different models. Cost wise, ATI beats up Nvidia all over the place.

I am seriously considering going AMD myself so I can utilize Eyefinity with DCS as well as my racing sims.

I really want to get away from AMD. The drivers are software are so consistently poor. There are all sorts of little things that remain broken such as the stupid Displayport auto-dedection in Windows and constant crashing with Flash video.

However, AMD's new 6900 series cards seem better suited to gaming in beyond 1920x1200 with their 2GB/GPU specs and ability to run different monitors as long as the resolutions match.

I have 2 Dell U2410s and 1 LG L246 right now that work fine in Eyefinity. I need more GPU for 3 screens though. I would love to go back to Nvidia, but their Surround solution seems too half-baked, like an afterthought.

I had read that Nvidia has a few issues since it may have been implemented too fast in an attempt to compete with ATI. Nvidia may have some ew techology this year though to combat the need for SLI when runing multi-monitor.

My biggest issue with Nvidia is just that...the need for SLI for multi-monitor. I am a huge Nvidia fan, but they just don't provide much value with regards to multi-moitor setups. I have been considering just going GTX 580 SLI, but it is so damn expensive it's ridiculous.

Right now, I believe they are all reference designs so it doesn't matter. Buy for the warranty and customer support.

I prefer Evga for Nvidia products.
