But those types of early planes are a challenge to fly and fight in. Today's planes take a lot of piloting out of flying - when compared to WWI and II era planes. When I play BS/A10 it's almost clinical in deploying weapons. Sure it's fun as hell strafing that convoy but imagine trying to do that when the target's moving in the air. Sure the adrenalin gets pumping when you're being shot at but again, nothing beats trying to shake that bandit off your tail. It's a different skill set. Different enough for me to enjoy playing RoF, BoBII and DCS. I gotta admit though, I was hesitant in buying RoF cos I had no interest in WWI era planes. I knew that I'd probably be frustrated by not being able to climb vertically (and I was) but was I ever pleasantly surprised. It takes a whole different set of flying to perform in these planes. 1

Don't think I'll be able to pass up the chance to do some damage in a 109 or a Spitfire though, especially given the pedigree, and if SOW turns out to run well on current machines. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

leafer Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 I hate to admit it but I think ED have made this too real for me. I've just watched the unguided bombs training and was completely overwhelmed. Tried the navigation three times and the two things I've gotten from it were how to zoom the map in/out and cycle through steerpoints. I want to believe it's all the acronyms that did me in, but deep down I know I'm just not cut out for this. The manual is even more confusing. I think I should stick to WWII era fur-ball gun fights. ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

Having the pre-order beta has been one of the better idea's that ED's done in recent memory. It allows alot of people access to the product to test it out, but also allows for content makers to go crazy making training supplements, missions, tools, and mods before the actual product is released. 1 The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. Should run a bit better then my old Athlon Phenom (2.06ghz) hehe. Take your time ED. Id rather have a more stable sim to begin with even if it takes time. Also on my shopping list is the FSX 737NGX from PMDG but that has no Gau-8 on it :joystick::joystick::joystick:.

In the end it's in the players best interest to wait a bit longer than to deal with some seriously troubled software. It only cost the company more money to hold off on release so complaining or putting up a trantrum because release date is missed is a bit silly. That being said, releasing the BETA of A-10C was not only a HUGE surprise for the community to get their feet wet in the A-10, but it bought ED some time and gave them a little cash advance to tweak/perfect the product before release. I'm content for a 2011 release.
