Bahger Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 The mission I've been using appears to have the tanker properly programmed at a WP to orbit but it orbits in a circle rather than in straight legs, making it impossible for me to catch up to him wings-level. I'm trying to learn aerial refeuling but first I need a mission file with the correct relative starting positions for the player's A-10 and the tanker, a properly set tanker and a short briefing with TACAN and radio info. So far I'm getting nowhere. I get the first call in and am told to join the tanker at 15,000ft but, as I say, he's in a constant-rate turn, which appears to screw up both the ability to join and tracking him via TACAN. I have not yet succeeded in making a successful pre-contact call. I'm at the foot of a steep learning curve here so I'd certainly appreciate an assist in the form of a workable .miz, step by step instructions or even a link to a tutorial video. I have RTFM but (see above) I do not have a stable learning platform yet.
26-J39 Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Why not just get the tanker to orbit in the race track pattern. ;) You can select this in the advanced tab below all your waypoint info. (In ME) There will be and option for circular or race track orbits.
Bahger Posted December 19, 2010 Author Posted December 19, 2010 Is there a way for the player to determine, while out of visual range, if the tanker on the inbound or outbound leg of a racetrack pattern?
mooshim Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 I'm interested in this too and a bit squeamish about screwing things up in mission editor... 26-J39 Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Is there a way for the player to determine, while out of visual range, if the tanker on the inbound or outbound leg of a racetrack pattern? If you have AWACS you can contact for the tankers heading, range etc. I'm interested in this too and a bit squeamish about screwing things up in mission editor... Is there a required altitude for refueller? thx Don't be, play around in the editor, it won't bite you.. :P As far as specific altitude I don't think there is but I say around 20,000ft is good.
Bahger Posted December 19, 2010 Author Posted December 19, 2010 Adding an AWACS just messed up the "Rejoin" command from the tanker. I'm sure it's my fault. It's always difficult trying to learn a procedure at the same time as learning to create a mission for it in a mission editor. If anyone can point me at a reliable refeuling training .miz I'd be grateful because then if it doesn't work I'll know it's a procedural problem on my part and not a problem with how I've set it up in the Mission Editor. I'm getting nowhere trying to learn this.
RogueRunner Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 If I recall correctly if you choose the 'orbit' function, either racetrack or circle, the tanker will ignore speed settings given by you in the editor and would do the orbit at a set speed which, incidently, is faster than what the A10 can manage, ie bad idea to use for refuelling missions. With the price of ammunition these days do not expect a warning shot.

Bahger Posted December 19, 2010 Author Posted December 19, 2010 Good lord, if it's as messed up as that I had better wait for the final release to learn aerial refeuling, what do you think? Pity, as I had hoped to incorporate it into a mission I'm making.
Druid_ Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 It will be fixed in final release, at least I hope so. Having said that, there's little or no confirmation of Mission Editor bugs or problems from ED so we will have to wait and see. Historically the ME has received little attention (e.g. Still waiting for satellite view), this version if they get it working 100% with current features should be much better. Still need satellite view though. Time will tell. p.s. Did I mention it needs a satellite view for placing units? i7-7700K : 16Gb DDR4 2800 Mhz : Asus Mobo : 2TB HDD : Intel 520 SSD 240gb : RTX 2080ti: Win10 64pro : Dx10 : TrackiR4 : TM Warthog : ASUS ROG SWIFT PG348Q

Bahger Posted December 19, 2010 Author Posted December 19, 2010 Ha, always good to see you here, Sobek. I like the ME. I'm finding it to be a powerful tool, capable of creating soundly tactical scenarios. It has its eccentricities though, that's for certain. I'm going to shelve A2A refeuling for the moment, I guess, unless someone has created a .miz that works.

dane48 Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Bahger. If you check out Operation Dane, it is a great mission and does include a tanker for aerial refueling. Made by Tyger who does some great tutorials and videos. CHeck it out at: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=61415 "To most people, the sky is the limit. To those who love aviation, the sky is home."-----anonymous
Bahger Posted December 19, 2010 Author Posted December 19, 2010 This looks great, thanks for the assist, dane48.
Mirtma Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 It is great mission. Now, almost whole Sunday I'm chasing tanker. And just when I think I will connect, tanker starts turning :pilotfly: Gigabyte Z490 Gaming X | i5 10600K@4700 | 32 Gb DDR4 @ 3200Mhz | Gigabyte Aorus GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11G | MONITOR IIYAMA 24,5" LED LCD @ 1920 x 1080 | Windows 11 | Saitek X-55 Rhino | TrackIR 5 Pro
Druid_ Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Oh ye of little faith... Ho Ho Ho Well, Blindspot was responsible for the last badly needed update to the ME (AND / OR). Satellite view was at the top of the list after the release of BS and its still at the top of the list apparently. Opening 2 instances of the Sim, sp & mp and saving, alt-tabbing etc etc is really something I was rather hoping they would address. If you do a search on the BS forum you can see how much of an issue it was to mission builders. It increases build times by a factor of 3 at least. Anyway, nuff said, I've flogged this dead horse before. i7-7700K : 16Gb DDR4 2800 Mhz : Asus Mobo : 2TB HDD : Intel 520 SSD 240gb : RTX 2080ti: Win10 64pro : Dx10 : TrackiR4 : TM Warthog : ASUS ROG SWIFT PG348Q
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Forgive my ignorance if its been covered, but will we have the ability to perform multiplayer refueling this time around. A bit off topic but I've been living under a rock lately! http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad

Bahger Posted December 20, 2010 Author Posted December 20, 2010 You know I can't figure out if you all feel the aerial refeuling is FUBAR atm or if some of you are making it work. If the latter, I wonder how...
Frederf Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 AAR refueling works as a one shot thing in single player (or for the host in MP). It's there and can be used but there are a host of semi-related issues that make it less than stellar. For example there's the bug where you can't have an active TACAN station tuned and use the comm radios. Then there's the bug where the fill disable buttons are reversed so popped out is fill enable. Then there's the confusion or using the task>orbit function to produce a tanker orbit (don't, do it manually.) After you climb over all the obstacles, yes AAR does work. Make it count because after disconnect the tanker pretends you don't exist anymore. Try to follow post #5 from this thread to make yourself a simple AAR practice mission. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=62824 1
Druid_ Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 Personally, I'd wait and see what Beta 4 has to offer. Hopefully, switch waypoint and orbit in the ME will be fixed. Also maybe tanker will allow more than 1 go at refuelling. i7-7700K : 16Gb DDR4 2800 Mhz : Asus Mobo : 2TB HDD : Intel 520 SSD 240gb : RTX 2080ti: Win10 64pro : Dx10 : TrackiR4 : TM Warthog : ASUS ROG SWIFT PG348Q
