kingneptune117 Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 hey guys, just downloaded and installed a clean install of beta 4 (not the patch). I have everything set to high, and am getting like 60 fps with no action going on! In comparison it was probably around 20 before. Let me say something though. When engaging enemies with the gun, or just using the gun in general, when the rounds impact the ground my fps drops by like 30 lol. Bad stuff. But in general very good. I found that the clutter/bushes doesnt even look that great so I just keep it off. This is a huge improvement FPS wise over the last beta. Just fix the gun fps problem and youll be all good  "When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return." - Leonardo da Vinci Intel i7-4790k | Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo heat sink | Thermaltake Core V71 case | 750W EVGA PSU | 8gb G.SKILL Ripjaws DDR3 RAM | MSI Z97 Gaming 5 LGA 1150 motherboard | Samsung SSD | ASUS STRIX GTX 970 | Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog | TIR 5 | Razer Deathadder | Corsair K70

Teej Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 I'm guessing that precompiling the shaders is way more easy to parallelise than doing so with the sim core engine. I was amused by the fact that it looked like one continuous sine wave going across all 4 cores...especially 2 seconds before I took that screen shot when cores 0 and 1 were more closely lined up. Look across from left to right - it's like you could draw one continuous line.... "Tank! I need a program for a TM Warthog!" Bahger Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 Does anyone know what the probs are with CBUs that Matt references? I'm asking because I've been working on CBU delivery in B4 and am thinking of incorporating them into a mission I'm working on in the ME.

To be expected - will be seen to: Some other notes: 1- Performance improvement for beta 4 was that all units now have Levels Of Detail (LOD). In later betas we'll optimize other areas, particularly effects and EDM models that are having a big, negative impact. However, some things will always hurt frame rate like TGP / Mav video (have to render the game a 2nd or 3rd time!) or viewing high poly objects (like A-10C, F-15, etc.) up close. 159th_Viper Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 .....What changes that suddenly makes the impacts so labor intensive for our computers? Not being privvy to the inner workings of the code, I honestly would have no idea. What I have however realised is that changes made sometimes have unintended consequences not previously foreseeable - I can only guess that this is the case now that with improvements made in some areas had an adverse effect on the particle effects of the 30mm. EtherealN Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 (edited) Not knowing the specifics of the code either, my suspicion is that you can adversely affect the FPS impact of GAU-8 rounds even without touching the rounds themselves. I would wager that there is a central resource that handles processing of various effects, and each "user" of the "effects engine" calls that when it needs it. This might be GAU-8 rounds being fired, them hitting the ground, bomblets impacting, artillery shells and tonnes of other things. This has the obvious advantage of keeping the code very clean and cutting down on code repetition and the "bad practice" of hardcoding too much. However, this also means that anytime you change stuff in the central resource, that change can have unexpected effects elsewhere in the code - a change made specifically for bomblets might end up changing things for the GAU-8 impact and so on. That said, I never seen anything closer to DCS:A-10C source code (I'm a tester/mod, not a software engineer, so I wouldn't know what to do with code anyway. :P ) than the standard lua files that everyone can see, so I'm not sure how that all works in here. But such unexpected consequences are a pretty common problem for software, in my experience, and it's not always easy to figure out "what did it" since you might have done a tonne of updates to various things before the side-effect is discovered, so it can be one of very many things. Midgard Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 The new beta works great in flight, a little faster but the menus are slow to load and run terribly slow especially in the editor when I add or modify an aircraft, in addition to the options when I change any key. This happens to someone?

Having a mechanical background, I never really see this very often. Most problems are relatively linear. If you change your T5 setpoint, it doesn't bugger the overspeed sensor. Or more simply, if you change your brake pads, your turn signals still work, and so on. Although, I did have this old VW beetle.... nomdeplume Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 Is it me of the F7 function is no longer working properly? Seems to be a problem with TrackIR, I'm using 5.1 beta 2 - pretty sure I had similar problems with 5.1 beta 1. Thought it wasn't recognising the game and using the wrong profile, but even with my DCS profile exclusively loaded, center set to "ctrl+/", and the other hotkeys disabled, F7 keypresses seem to be ignored. If I don't have TrackIR running, F7 works fine in the sim.
mtuckner Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 What you need to do to fix that Track IR issue is to go to the folders in Natural Point and browse to profiles, and after saving a custom profile, remove all the other profiles. That will fix it, you can just bump them to a folder you create for safe keeping. 1

MemphisBelle Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 I already downloaded but haven´t installed it yet (beta 4 full installation). Is it worth right now to uninstall beta3? As of what I am reading, so the folks are not quite satisfied with beta 4, am I right? We also shouldn´t forget what Wags mentioned. Although there are a few issues I'm not happy about in beta 4... textide Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 I installed the Beta 4 patch over Beta 3 and have CTD'd about 10 times today. Can't access the beta forums to report anything there, so waiting for Beta 5. Hopefully it'll be before the New Year as mentioned....
