It is said above 25-30 FPS human eye can't see more... but your brain somehow catch difference example 60 vs 30... so.... to be sure set for 60 FPS. Personally I feel very comfortable at 30 FPS. For me it is smooth.

Common opinion is - brain can't "see" more than 24, eye - can.

Number 60 is rised in CRT times, when with 60Hz refresh rate you was able to see flickering, in case of CRT nature.

In 60 my eyes were bleeding... :P I had to work at minimum 85-100 in CRT times :D

Anyway I tested in LO1 few FPS values and I was happy at 30 at all. Maybe it was temporary, maybe later I'd like to get 60 FPS in v-sync, dunno.

Great discussion.

Need some hot babe pics though...heh...:D

Im gonna play around with the FPS number BUT

what is the generally agreed upon FPS number that the human eye needs for smooth play?

Did someone say hot babes?????:cheer3nc:

Lol to the person who said you cant see more than 30 FPS. 30 FPS looks like utter crap. I can easily tell the difference between a 120FPS screen and a 60 FPS screen. Let alone a measly 30 FPS. I try and get a minimum of 60 FPS. If I need to turn down graphics settings to achieve that, so be it. FPS > eye candy.

This is a common misconception in computer gaming. This does apply to TV, movies, etc. because they use motion blur to smooth between frames. In computer games there is no motion blur, and therefore the eye can distinguish between much higher framerates. I'm sure there is some point that the eye can no longer tell, but it's much higher than typical movie framerates.

...and I do fly at 30 fps, and I think it looks fine :)

If I dont have the FPS numbers up than I honestly cant distiguish unless its really low and becomes a slide show. Otherwise as long as its moving and playing good i'm happy.

Refresh rate at 75, max fps at 39 keeps fps at the max specified for me. I can definitely tell the difference between 30 and higher. Wish I could keep it pegged at 60.

With a refresh rate of 60, I would need it locked at 60fps or ?? (how do I work it out?)

if you enable vsync in the graphics config, the fps will be pegged at 60. If you use the max fps line, you can set max fps lower. I chose 39 because it hardly hits that with cockpit and in built up areas (including airports), and anything above 30 is smooth to me. That way you leave cpu overhead to do other things.

What "other things" would those be?

what was you ex GPU?

how much FPS did you gain ?

I'm a bit off topic but I'm wondering if switching my 4870 512mb for a 6950 2gb will do a difference at 1920x1080 all HIGH with at least 4aa :helpsmilie:

Had a 9800GTX running A10C on medium settings with stuttering ~35 FPS.

Now a EVGA 470 GTX massively overclocked and getting 60 FPS (locked) all settings maxed except draw distance @medium, no stuttering.

Well sweet that answered that question. I have 2 9800 GTs. And I was leaning towards getting a EVGA GTX 580. The only problem was I wasnt sure how one card would perform instead of 2 but I think once I get my tax return and convince the wifey I will be getting a new graphic card and possible a new HOTAS!!!!

Check out the EVGA cards. A 480 can overclock to 500 specs, my 470 is o/c to a 480: stock 607 clock now @750 (!).
