Hi all,

I thought I'd make a poll just to get some info, I was interested in peoples opinions..I realise the question is "Apples and Oranges" as they say, but frankly I prefer oranges, despite all their difference!

I know the A10 is in beta and that, upon final release the swing of the poll may vary but anyway, I'm curious :-)

Poll is there :D It seems the topic posted without the poll! (maybe i've overcomplicated it with too many options..)

You can't compare two different things, is my opinion. I have equal needs for both of them ! :smilewink:

I enjoy the flying the ka50 because it's more of a challenge. In the a10 almost everything is done for you and you just have to point and hold the trigger.

Saying that I don't think any of them are more fun to fly than the other, a10 is definitely easier and has cooler stuff in it. But there is something special about hovering a couple of meters over the tree tops hiding from enemy hinds while releasing missiles onto unsuspecting enemy vehicles.

I prefer the A-10 over the KA-50 for various reasons.

Avionics are easier and more extensive, flying it is far easier (never could master the KA50), more weapons, and the GAU-8.

Heh, the GAU-8 alone is enough to decide which is better. :P

I prefer the BS. Main reason is its a helo. A10 is another plane game. An absolutely brilliant and gorgeous one, but still just another plane game. Name another study sim Helo game on the market to play. Hell name any other helo game on the market. I think I have one on my iPhone. Not many switches to flip though and it only has a gun that shoots what looks like tiny pebbles.

I find much more sense of accomplishment flying the BS. I do love flying the A10 and its one of my favorite A/C, but it does seem too easy sometimes. Start up is done with like 4 switches. I can not count how many are needed for the BS. (Don't have enough fingers)

Don't make me choose. Two different airframes for different tasks.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Like helicopters better but flying A-10 because it's the new kid on the block. Just waiting and hoping for DCS Black Shark to become compatible and get upgraded to DCS A-10 standard. Options menu to include HDR, MSAA, TSSAA and bushes.

Both!

The KA-50's systems were engineered in a different time period. The A-10C has been majorly updated to current standards.

The challenge of each is unique and equally enjoyable each in their own way :)

Thanks for the results everyone, very interesting! Also, what would be the common missions involving A10s and KA50s? I know the A10 is much newer, so in a head on head fight I'm guessing the ka50 would end up hiding? (as seems to be the advice any time it comes up against a fixed wing!)

I guess they could co-op in some way, The Russians and US...What we need is some North Korean NPCs!

I love both but they're too different to compare. Ka-50 has its own advantages and A-10 its own. Both are for me equal :)

Different experiance, skills, knowlidge, tactics and piloting requirements. A10C is the new kid on the block, but Ka50 is still the only one in his type.:)

Ka-50 - Simple in operating avionics. Easy to fly. Not so modern, but much fun to fly.

Ka50 Easy to fly ? Easier than A10 ? Why I feel the opposite ?

On the easy to fly question, I find them roughly equal - though the Ka-50 was harder to "get started" with since it's, well, rotary-wing (while the A-10 aerodynamics has many similarities to aircraft I fly IRL, so I cheat there. :P ).

Just out of interest (if the five that voted it if you are still about), what makes you think the Ka-50 is better as CAS platform? Simply the fact it's a chopper or something else?

Only durring enroute or hover or turn to target mode. I prefere FD with all channels enabled for combat BFM. :)

It's the fact that a chopper can provide CAS and/or unorthodox operation tactics in a mountainous battlefield or bad weather under cloud scape. It can also set ambush tactics. It allowes for better situation awareness on battlefield and generally allowes for more sophisticated operations. :smilewink:

PS. Please don't misunderstand me, mastering a fixed wing is great experiance. But also masterting a chopper like Ka50 makes you man ! :D
