I realize this is a beta, but seriously, after having this sim for 3 weeks now, I have only found 1 server without a password (s77th), and that was only one night..

Why is everyone keeping them so secret ?

The 16th is heavily involved in testing. We keep it locked so we can test and evaluate. Believe it or not we have had pilots come in on an open server and start gunning home plate and hot-dogging. We are not about that. We like procedure and flight discipline and when a rogue enters it upsets the balance. IM me and I will hook you up.

Some times my squad are testing too, and now with the beta 4 you can fly 4 or 5 pilots without problems, but if we fly with more than 5 pilots we get lag, Desyncronization..etc. It is difficult to fly this way.

Be patient, I'm sure when the Final product is out, there will be much more publics server with no pass. :smilewink:

We are training often and with lag as well with too many pilots.

Best way to get online is join an active Wing.

Well, i`ll be honest with you and tell you why for me, Plageurism!

I served Op Albas v1.2 (now 1.6) which i test and test and test again every beta change because i want a challenging, fun and realistic mission to be able to be served to the 74th community on DAY ONE of retail launch.

I served it to the general community on Beta 3. The next day there were TWO servers that were serving it. With permission fine, but just going ahead and doing it anyway, with no respect to the mission designers hours and hours of ME work, is in my opinion, down right out of order and has no place in this community.

There are some fantastic mission designers out there. We have seen them in action for the DCS BS when it first came out (Dragon for example) and they have designed missions for the community - awesome. There will always be a place for these talented people. But, there are some of us who keep close to our chests, the concept and success of specific missions and 'don't' want them served generally to the public by other people.

in essence, we want it to have our signature and therfore the right for our server only to serve it. nothing wrong with that.

That is why our server is locked down and will remain locked down unless otherwise notified.

Just a suggestion- limit the number of slots. Then perhaps you could leave it open? Set mine to 8 (20/5 "on paper")

@ others- The miniscule fraction of morons cannot escape their real ID anymore. IP's are easy now. Name em, shame em,(on your own forums-not here) and ban em. Don't warn them. Then pass it on to other admins.

As an admin of 2 DCS servers- I welcome this behavior in a way. Meaning-it'd be my pleasure to get the ball rolling (over their virtual heads.)

I wish more designers and wings would make their missions public to allow more variety for all players and thus increasing the enjoyment for everyone. Community contributions will make or break this sim as it is in a sandbox state.

Whenever i've hosted over the past few weeks, i've always limited the client slots to 4 or 5 and always left it open for anyone to join.

I have to say, i have never once encountered one person messing around or being an ass :)

Hmm ours are closed mainly due to not wanting idiots joining and ruining the mission... On top of that the missions are usually only slotted for the number we have on.

WTF??? Little full of yourself I see.

Go ahead and skip that last part about notifying us if your server is not locked down anymore as i'm pretty sure that us lowly subjects would never be worthy enough to look upon your masterful work.

Seems to me the attitude is more than just a fear of a beta making the mission incomplete. It's the total opposite of the Arma type community which exploded that game's life force and longevity with fantastic mods and campaigns and missions. Some guys I fly with, but won't be much longer get pissy if they thought someone was "flying off their hard work". I just don't get it. At the same time they complain of the lack of available missions and not having enough time to create their own to keep the "wing" occupied... Gee, wonder whats going on here. People act like it's proprietary technology and they are making money off their design. It's a hobby for fun, people! The more input and creation from the community the better off all are.

Thank god for Grebs and C.O.U.G.A.R. to release some missions. I have tried to jump in but, school, work and wife just don't leave enough time to fly but a handful of hours a week at this point.

Never felt this way about missions. I am just the guy that BBO's the steaks that came from a great butcher.

Although in some ways I see Tyger's point, it takes a lot of time to build a mission, and you put your heart in to it.... you really do!

On that note I also feel that if anyone learns something from cutting one of my missions apart and making it better, then so be it, I may learn something in the process myself. This is the reason I post my missions completely unlocked. I can almost guarantee if someone posted my mission saying it was their work a lot on this board would come at them. I could also careless if they did. I build what I like to fly and I toss it up. Fly it don't fly it....it's there if you want it. I mean after all we all want to have good stuff to fly.

Like Ma always said, don't be selfish......share your toys.

Kudos to that Greb. If you want to advertise and gain popularity, respect, prestige or some other sense of self importance in this virtual community - PUT YOUR NAME AND UNIT on the briefing. I highly doubt any clown will remove it and put his there. If they did, then yeah, I would be pissed off. In the end, however, most all will know who is contributing and doing great things to keep flight sims alive. HINT: keeping things secret and propriety does not expand the community.

well to each his own- but I don't think anyone should be sweating a mission malfunction due to the sim's beta status.. We're all going through it together. (I've been running MadTommy's "Operation Cherkessk" for several nights- no one is giving me any grief..

So what if you have a Predator traveling underground? We can all laugh together.

Very True konkussion!

Plus there is a learning curve to the ME as a whole. I look at some of the stuff I do now to the first mission I put out and and ponder.....why the hell did you do that....WHAT were you thinking?

It's all good!

It's a good point you make mtuckner!

If you don't expand the community and/or give it some life then what do you get.....canceled future projects. You want another DCS Series you better buy the previous.

Take Black Shark. I bought it, flew it for a few hours and its a work of art, it truly is. On that note, I have not very much interest in a Russian Attack Helicopter. I mean no disrespect, it's just not really my cup of tea. I did buy it though for one reason and that is to make sure DCS has a reason to make the next sim. If DCS builds a freegin TU Bear sim, I would buy it for the same reason I mentioned.

A bear sim? I'd buy it in a second... DCS: Bear Simulator...Excellent

I'd like to find out in a realistic simulation whether or not bears do actually **** in the woods..

Yeah I would have to buy it.....the start up procedures alone would be worth it. Can you imagine bringing those engines to life! WOWZA!
